No, I'm not talking about the fairy story fundamentalist fantasy propagated in fishwrap like the 'Left Behind" series, but rather economic Armageddon. I am referring to the time for the debt ceiling to be increased, but a splintered government (mainly led by Tea Party congress critters in the House) refuses to allow it (at least not without enormous spending cuts).
And if that refusal to vote occurs, then the "full faith and credit" of the U.S. government turns into a pile of yesterday's horse manure. No more VA benefits checks, veterans' disability checks, Social Security checks, and no more Medicare payments for doctors, hospitals or general services. In other words, no money going out - period.
Think this can't happen? Think again! Just last night on CNN, Republican Senator-to-be Rand Paul (Ky) bluntly said that he will be looking for a "five hundred billion dollar spending cut" to balance the "stimulus" that now is on the verge of passing. A tax package that will add $858 billion to a deficit that's already topping $14 billion by the time the Afghan war supplemental spending is added.
As I warned in previous blogs, this so-called "tax package" is an invitation for fiscal mayhem. The Repukes and their enablers (e.g. Charles Krauthammer in the WaPo) are already depicting it as a stealth stimulus package that fooled the Rs! This is how they will play it in the future, as "Obama's stealth stimulus" as opposed to "OUR bipartisan tax plan". Why? Because the repukes are plain lizard -brained REPTILES who will always deform and exploit a message to their own nefarious ends. No one ever lost a bet (except maybe Obama) by over-estimating the Republican tendency for cynical manipulation and trashing everything to get their way.
Ultimately, the push on the Right and in its media-talk show chambers will be to foursquare attack and defund social security and other benefits, and use the basis of needed "spending cuts" to control the gaping hole in the budget caused by "Obama's stimulus". We have already beheld the preview compliments of Rand Paul.
I wonder now, if the Dems have any idea of the trap they are falling into, especially now the 'Big Dog" has spoken in its favor. (What he didn't say, at his impromptu news conference, is how his own INCREASE in taxes, helped paved the way to create 20 million jobs and a $600 billion surplus).
According to Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, Alan B. Simpson - the co-chair of the Obama Deficit Commission - pining for a "blood bath". Seems like he just can't wait for next April and all the chaos it will bring as he says (see: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/22/opinion/22krugman.html?src=me&ref=general)
“I can’t wait for the blood bath in April. ... When debt limit time comes, they’re going to look around and say, ‘What in the hell do we do now? We’ve got guys who will not approve the debt limit extension unless we give ’em a piece of meat, real meat,’ (meaning spending cuts) “And boy, the blood bath will be extraordinary,” he continued.
Extraordinary indeed! And the "guys" who will not approve the debt limit expansion (like newbie Rand Paul, as well as oldbie Jim deMint) are going to try to bring this country to a halt.
We also know both Simpson and his Neolib Dem Co-Chair sidekick Ernest Bowles, have deplored the Obama -Repub tax plan as "Heart breaking" and adding to an already existing "cancer eating away at the country". In other words, they're fully aware of the peril to basic security Americans are going to face- since they laid the draconian plans to shave it down, and that was before this nearly $1 trillion tax cuts package got added.
So, what will the Dems do when the proverbial shit hits the fan next spring? If they give in now when the Reptiles hold them hostage now over the paltry benefits extension to the unemployed (which seems to be the real reason this "compromise" was latched onto) that doesn't even include the 99ers, what will they do when the meltdown of the whole government is imminent? How MUCH will they give in?
Remember it is the House which approves budgetary funding, and it will be dominated by deficit hawk R-teepees, like Rand Paul. Will they hold the nation hostage until $500 billion in spending cuts are implemented?
If so, and the Dems and Obama wuss out once more ("We can't afford to listen to hostage takers unless their hostages stand to be harmed") then WHICH cuts will they enact? VA benefits? Social Security (no more COLA)? Medicare? How ahbout that ghastly "war" in Afghanistan, sucking up $2.8 BILLION a week - while our infrastructure crumbles into dust?
Inquring minds want to know, but not before too much longer! (Or at least very soon after they cave in and pass this loathsome tax package that represents a "Trojan Horse" no different from the one recounted by Homer).
