Another Insane "Flat Tax" Plan to Destroy What's Left of the Country!

Well, it didn't take very long for another Gooper to come up with a "flat tax" plan to try to compete with Herman Cain's insane 9-9-9 plan, see e.g.

http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2011/10/herman-cains-9-9-9-plan-how-to-destroy.html

Here's the deal: the single aspect for anyone to attend to in respect of all flat tax proposals is they are not about taxation at all! Their singular and overriding purpose is to destroy the government's capacity for good, by so severely limiting revenues that the gov't is unable to assist citizens in need - while the flat tax props up a smug, conceited and ovebearing plutocracy which has already seen its median income soar over 275% since 1980 while the 99% have muddled along.

Thus, all flat tax systems have as their primo directive to "starve the beast"! If the "beast" (government) is sufficiently starved, then:

- It can't provide further benefits, and Social Security, Medicare must then be cut

- It can't provide any semblance of affordable health care by moving the privateers (e.g. insurers) out of the way

- It can't support or assist students with lower interest federal loans for college, so they will have to go to private sharks and their variable interest rates instead, and end up in a mass debtor class

- It can't regulate citizens' welfare through environmental or food, sanitation, labor protections, so more people will have to get sick and die - because they sure as shit can't afford private health insurance.

In other words, such plans support and abet a system such as we have now (indeed, make it much worse by allocating even more riches to the wealthiest) wherein government budget cuts of $861 million for families, mothers with chilidren in need of healthcare can occur while the 1% continue to reap $860 million a WEEK via the Bush tax cuts!

Perry's flat tax proposal may be even more degenerate and insane than Cain's as his singular objective (WSJ, 'Perry Joins Flat -Tax Camp', Oct. 26, p. A4) is to reduce government spending to 18% of the economy each year, down from 24% in 2010 and excluding any major defense cuts. If we process this, it means that federal benefits such as Social Security and even VA pensions would have to be halved, Medicare turned into a "Death plan" a la Paul Ryan, and key government agencies such as the EPA converted into coporate shells or disbanded completely.

One of the more insidious aspects of Perry's fell plan is that it enables taxpayers themselves to decide how fast THEY wish to destroy the government and their own future benefits. Thus, taxpayers are allowed the choice of either filing under the current system (e.g. with top marginal rates of 35% - assuming the Bush tax cuts aren't finally repealed at the end of this year), or they can pay his new 20% tax rate.

If taxpayers are clueless enough to opt for the latter, they will send this country into a massive $23 trillion deficit before 2020, though Perry insists he can "balance the budget" by then. He's nuts! The three decade analyses of overly low taxation (e.g. The Financial Times, Analysis (9/15/10 , p. 24) showed the tax cuts applied did not even curtail the secular slowdown in the growth of business structures, rather the slowdowns accelerated to full declines. Worse, growth in real gross non-residential investment barely averaged 1% (compared to 3.5%-4% in high tax years) and "an increasing proportion of the benefits of U.S. tax policy leaked outside the U.S.”

Do people really want to endure more of this bullshit? Haven't they had enough? Haven't college kids had enough of getting screwed with those high interest, variable rate private loans? Haven't homeowners had enough of the mortgage games, as bankers and especially investment bankers - bet on your failure to pay? Isn't it time to tell these fuckers to take a hike?

Perry's plan will also necessitate ripping out at least $2 trillion from Social Security monies to set up "private accounts". (He claims he will give younger wage earners the "option" of private accounts, but he has to know most are so spooked they won't see a red cent of regular S.S. that they will opt in. To the detriment of themselves, as well as everyone already in. Of course, as I noted in a previous blog, if a private account owner loses money on his investments, he can receive no higher Social Security payment than $400 minimum for most private options, such as bruited by the Bush Jr. bunch.)

Perry also claims (ibid.) his 20% corporate tax rate is "aimed at increasing private spending to create more jobs". But again, we know this is also bollocks. The largest private corporations are still sitting on more than $2 trillion in cash, and doing so in the lowest corporate tax environment (as % of GDP) since the 1980s. The way to make these bastards create more jobs is to tax their idle cash, at least at the 35% level, and also tag on a proviso that any jobs dispatched to India or China will see a an extra surtax of 50% of proposed salary on each foreign worker, but applied to the company.

Experts asked to comment on the Perry flat tax plan (ibid.) agreed it "would sharply reduce the revenue to government"

Agian, DOH! Because we know all these "tax" plans are in reality, "starve the beast" plans!

One of the experts, a Senior Fellow at the Tax Policy Center, added (ibid.):

"Two things are very clear: it will lose lots of revenue and it will give a big tax cut to the rich"

As if the rich needed any more!

I mean let's get freakin' real! How many more 'Billy the Kid' tintypes at $2 million each can these GOP wet-nursed assholes buy? How many more blood diamonds? Aren't a hundred ten kt. diamonds enough in their safes? How many more 44,000 sq. ft. homes with 8 jacuzzis? Aren't two main residences (in Long Island and Beverly Hills) enough? Do the fuckers also need two more - one in Aspen (to cavort in the winter, with fake, platinum coated snow boards) and one in Aruba - where they can enjoy $2,000 rose wine wraps each day with their champagne magnums?

I mean WHY does Rick Perry the cowboy clown want to make their lives more opulent while 22 million American kids cry themselves to sleep with hunger each night, while their moms do without their own nutrition so the kids can eat - and granny next door must do without her meds - because it's either them or food?

Haven't we had enough of this bullshit in this country?

The good thing is that the odds of this booger-pickin' asshole winning the nomination are slim and none. The bad thing is there are enough stupid, unread voters in this country (combined with the GOP's draconian campaign to suppress votiing rights) to possibly give him a chance.

Add in some voting machine fraud - such as occurred in Ohio, in 2004- and who the hell knows?

One thing for sure, if either Perry or Cain gets in, far less Romney, things will get a lot uglier than they are now!

It is certainly true that our tax system is unwieldy, hyper-draconian and ridiculous at over 73,000 pages of code, so much so that even IRS tax advisors (according to some GAO reports over the past years) are often found to give conflicting advice on assorted issues. But that doesn't mean we need to simplify it all the way down to a single rate flat tax! One can still achieve a measure of simplicity by disallowing all the loopholes and special dispensations, while alllowing a 3-tier rate system, say 40% for the top 10% of earners, 25% for the next 10% and 15% for everyone else except those earning under $15,000. They pay no tax, as they don't now (if they use the Earned Income Tax credit).

Herman Cain: "Uncle Tom" for Billionaires!

As I referenced before, the use of the term "Uncle Tom" in its appropriate context is a worthwhile pejorative, and certainly not "racist". If we go back to the Old Confederacy, it first emerged as a contemptuous term used by the hard-working field slaves (especially in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia) for special "house slaves" who had relatively the best that the Massah could offer. They usually had to service meals, for example, but would be left with the best vittles after the family had eaten. They also got to eat their fill, didn't have to work on Saturdays or Sundays - and sometimes even got to read.

The main reason for all these perks is that the house slave Uncle Toms also acted as the Massah's eyes and ears. If any of the field slaves even ruminated trouble, the official Uncle Tom would report it, and well....it'd be fifty lashes for the poor field slave.

Today, the connotation and meaning carries over for any black man who willingly does the bidding of today's Overseers, mainly the White Massahs and Billionaries from Wall Street. This is understood, because if that bidding translates into pain and poverty for his brothers, it means he values his advancement more than their security or welfare! This is basic and straightforward to grasp.

Now, we learn today (Denver Post, p. 4A, and AP report) that Herman Cain has "close ties to the Billionaries, Charles and David Koch". These are the same two who set up "Americans for Prosperity" which is the primary anti-tax group devoted to making the US of A safe for all billionaires in terms of income tax burdens. In other words, these fat cats have Herman carrying their water for them, and specifically via his insane 9-9-9 tax plan, see e.g.

http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2011/10/herman-cains-9-9-9-plan-how-to-destroy.html

According to the Post article:

"Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity"

Let's also bear in mind that same group, AFP, lies at the heart of the Tea Party movement, along with another bunch known as "Freedom Works".

In addition, the Post reports that "Cain's campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, the organization founded by billionaires Charles and David Koch. The AFP group uniformly lobbies for less government regulation and much lower taxation" (mainly for them, but higher for everyone else - as I revealed in the preceding link).

Cain, according to the Post report, credits a businessman - Mark Block- who served on an AFP advisory board, as giving him the idea for the 9-9-9 tax idiocy.

Although Cain cynically portrays himself as a kind of business "everyman" (who once owned 'Godfather's Pizza') his actions belie that. His acerbic putdown of the Occupy Wall Street protestors, saying in an interview "No one should blame Wall Street!" and "Let those protestors get jobs!" shows unequivocally the man is a pawn of Wall Street, and also an Uncle Tom for their asssorted Puppet masters, like the Kochs.

In addition, as noted in the Post (ibid.):

"Americans for Prosperity tapped Cain as the public face for its 'Prosperity Expansion Project', and he traveled the U.S. in 2005, and 2006 speaking to activists who were starting state-based AFP chapters."

Obviously, AFP's support for his presidential candidacy has been his reward or, in terms of the Old Confederacy - maybe some extra grits, corn bread and chitlins with pork,- for the nominated and favored house slave's earlier work on AFP's behalf.

Obviously also, AFP's head white massahs believe a lot of Americans (including many working class stiffs who are the most exploited by Wall St.) will be stupid enough to buy Cain's shuck and jive because a black man is promotinig garbage like 9-9-9 it must be okay, and poor black men will do fine as well. Think again! Cain's plan will actually eviscerate and evacuate what's left of this nation's prosperity or any hope that upward mobility can return again.

More plausibly, it will ensure a vast serf state for the Corporatocracy, which will doubtless find a high position for their useful idiot and water carrier even if he doesn't get the Repuke presidential nomination! Let's hope it isn't Ambassador to Barbados!

Herman Cain's '9-9-9' Plan: How to Destroy the Country in 3 Easy Steps

As usual, anytime some pol or candidate shows even a remote hint of any supposed originality or unique idea, the corporo-media press hacks slobber over him like a dog eyeing a freshly seasoned steak ready for the grill. And just like the dog, the hacks' reflexes kick in, albeit not quite Pavlovian.

The latest hot buzz concerns Reeper Herman Cain's '9-9-9' tax plan, which proposes:

9% corporate tax rate across the board

9% flat income tax rate for everyone

9% sales tax for everyone.

To entice the hacks and corporo-pundits to calm down, it behooves us to further assess and analyyze Cain's plan. What we find, when we do, is a hare-brained scheme that will convert this country into another Somalia or Liberia in maybe ten years...if that long. Are sane people really THAT eager to inhabit a failed state of 310 million people?

I thought not.

First, the 9% corporate tax rate. This makes no sense since as David Wallachensky and other commentators have shown, the corps are already escaping with some of the lowest tax rates in ages. The effect of lowering them further will then mean that the slack will have to be picked up by average citizens. You can''t after all, entertain a massive loss in national revenues and still expect to be first in much, including defense.

So, assorted groups (e.g. Tax Policy Center) have calculated that if Cain were elected and he actually managed to get congress to bite on this codswallop, the general income tax would have to be raised nearly 5 pct. points in each category!

But wait! Cain also wants a staight 9% flat tax for everyone!

Well, this'll work fine for the hotshot on Wall Street earning 9 million a year who'll still have around $8.2 million after this tax.

But not so much for a $30,000 a year wage earner at Walmart, who will have about $27,300 left.

But wait again! The guy still has to pay propertty taxes, which across the U.S. average about 6.5% of income, so take away another $1,950. This is something Cain's proposal can't do diddly about.

Then there is the increased sales tax! If our family spends on average $6,000 a year on school supplies, appliances, house materials - paints, etc. then that subtracts another chunk of $540.

Our family is now down to $24, 810.

Note that this is at a time when incomes of Americans have fallen 7% since 2000 and stand to fall another 7% over the next five years. Which means another chunk subtracted via inflation and wage suppression....by who else? The Big corporations!

In the end, as ABC News economists computed and presented last night, the average family earning $50,000 will have to cough up an additional $2,750 in taxes.

The interesting thing here is that current $20k/yr earners who pay no income tax, because of using the Earned Income Tax credit, will now be paying an extra 9% they wouldn't have before, or $1,800. That's $1,800 they won't have to spend on groceries, rent or mortgage, or school lunches!

As one observer phrased it, quoted in today's story on Americans' falling incomes (WSJ, p. A5), Americans face falling quality of life standards at least through 2021! But this is not factoring in Cain's 9-9-9 idiocy. If THAT were to actually get passed, Americans' standard of living would fall to the level of Costa Rica's within 7 years and below Malawi's in ten. (Already our Gini index, an indicator of inequality, is at the level of the Phillippines and Mexico).

Do so many Americans REALLY want to live at the level of peasants? DO they really want to consolidate the Corporate State to the point we all become serfs on Herman Cain's new corporate plantation? Then why even consider this character as anything other than a clown (who actually said the other day, he's the "real deal" ...like Haagen Dasz "Black Walnut" ice cream, not realizing that brand went out two years ago!)

But the best is saved for last.

In addition, Cain plans to abolish the child credit for families to claim as well as the home mortgage credit. No credits, or loopholes allowed if we have this 9% flat tax!

Further, he plans to abolish the 6.2% payroll tax (which he believes will make up for the loss of the above credits). Trouble is, when you subtract the payroll tax you no longer have any allocations or revenue for Social Security or Medicare. That means, both those programs will plausibly face a very big budget axe within a year or so of Cain's 9-9-9 being enacted.

This means that citizens under his crazy plan, wil have to look forward to taking care of their own retirement funding and not expect anything much from the government. Or expect much from Medicare, other than maybe a voucher for $500 a year!

Cain insists his flat 9% tax will be able to pay for the two programs the payroll tax had funded, but this is bare bollocks. There is no way that could happen unless this country massively pared down its military budget, to no more than about $100b a year, from its current $746b a year. The odds of that happening when so many congress critters are in the paws of the military industrial complex? About the same as a horde of aliens landing on Capitol Hill and hauling away Boehner and Cantor to become their sex slaves on the home planet of Zeta Reticuli III.

The funny thing is that even conservatives, mainly from the business community, have attacked Cain's moronic plan. They argue, correctly I believe, that a 9% sales tax would have the effect of dampening consumer spending in an already depressed sales environment. This is true. When aggregate demand is so low, as it is now, people are just looking for more and more ways to shave their spending. Believe me things will be no better next year or the year after, what with the Repukes' massive austerity program coming. So, if a 9% sales tax is also applied, you will see the return of home made clothes, foods, etc. like you never have before. The GDP - by my estimation- will plummet about 20%. And that's my best estimation!

Yes, Herman Cain's 9-9-9 tax plan is just terrific!

If you really want to live in a Banana Republic!
