Zapruder frame 314: Was never seen by public before 1975
It's difficult for those living today to grasp the much less tech world of 1963. For example, there were no instant cameras or devices such as cell phones back then. Photos -film had to be processed, developed. The compact polaroid camera wouldn't be invented until 1972. Those who had small cameras in Dallas on November 22, 1963 - and were close enough to take photos (like Mary Moorman)- had those confiscated by city or federal officials. The same for those who had movie cameras. So it ought to come as no surprise those of us who were alive on Nov. 22, 1963 and sentient did not see JFK actually assassinated like those living today saw Charlie Kirk assassinated.
The only actual killing we DID see on TV in those horrific days, was that of Lee Harvey Oswald, by Dallas night club owner Jack Ruby on the Sunday, in the Dallas PD garage while in transit, e.g.:
This was bad enough, and the smarter citizens even from then understood Oswald was taken out so he could never speak in a courtroom. Since then, addle-pated babble has emerged from various quarters trying to claim Jack Ruby was merely "saving Jackie" from having to return to Dallas for a trial. All such malarkey I have skewered such as one from SPLC writer Marilyn Elias, e.g.
The Southern Poverty Law Center: Still In Over Its Head On the JFK Assassination
Peggy Noonan therefore is correct in her recent WSJ column ('Gatekeepers and National Traumas', Sept. 20-21, p. A13) that in 1963 hardly anyone saw the Zapruder film which showed the bloody assassination of our 35th president. In fact, the only ones who were able to were Abraham Zapruder himself, and the editors of Time-Life to whom he sold the film. As Ms. Noonan writes:
"In the past week of shock and mourning people mentioned the Zapruder film. They'd all seen the terrible, immediately available video of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, and his bleeding to death. In the days after the killing they'd say: 'That must be like the Zapruder film when JFK was shot - you all had a lot to process. No, we didn't have to process it because we never saw it."
She is 100 percent correct. All we beheld in the immediate aftermath were news bulletins and updates. The stills from the Zapruder film wouldn't be seen until a week after the event, published in a Nov. 29 special issue of LIFE, e.g.
which described them as: "a remarkable and exclusive series of pictures which show, for the first time and in tragic detail, the fate which befell our President".Even so, the only images shown were black and white stills from the Z-film, no color. The lead chapter was introduced with the following page:
And inside we find some of the Z-film images shown below.
The truth is there was no actual full public showing of the assassination of JFK until March 6, 1975 on Geraldo Riviera's Good Night America show:

Those b&w images alone remained with us - and for the first time we beheld the absolute horror of what happened. As you can see for yourselves. But not all the gory details were shown, in the interest of preserving national sanity and avoiding gore. As Noonan writes:
"One week after the assassination LIFE editors rushed out an issue including selected frames of the film in black and white. They didn't include the head snapping moment of the fatal bullet.."
But many of us did feel those ought to have been included, especially in the wake of the Warren Commission whitewash. Which never would have grained traction the way it did in the early years with the bunkum of the lone assassin. As I showed in a previous post,
Let's Cut The Bull: Analysis-Based Conspiracy Theories CAN In Fact Be Rigorous AND Scientific!
The "lone nut" WC bunkum could emerge in large part because people at the time did not actually see what occurred in real time. It then became fairly easy to manipulate photos, witnesses, evidence to arrive at a distracting political solution - as well as protecting LBJ - who masterminded the Commission. The deep (physics-based) analysis of the Z-film by assassination researchers could only commence after it was publicly available in 1975. Those like Robert Groden could then do yeoman work to get to the truth.
For those who prefer to see color digitized (and complete) versions of the film it is simple enough using Google. I would use Robert Groden's name in the search since he was the one responsible for that digitized version which most emphatically put the bullseye on multiple shooters - none of whom were Lee Harvey Oswald.
