The 2nd Amendment Isn't "A National Suicide Pact" - What Gun-tards Get Wrong

After more than a thousand attended a vigil in Parkland, Florida  last night for those slain by Nicholas Cruz, we have learned the names and hackgrounds of many. So many promising lives taken too young, and many of these same students now tired of hearing the usual "let's pray" platitudes from the likes of GOOPs, Doturd, and Paul "Munster" Ryan.

As one of the students interviewed this morning put it: "No one should ever have to go through this again, ever. This could have been prevented if that kid didn't get that gun"

But that "never" depends on this nation getting its collective head back into sane gear - starting with its maniacal gun laws. As I noted in a footnote in yesterday's post, a study in the journal Health Affairs concluded that the United States has become “the most dangerous of wealthy nations for a child to be born into.”   According to the Health Affairs study. the homicide rate in this country is 49 times higher than in other rich countries.  It doesn't take a Mensa level IQ to grasp this ratio cannot be solely from the U.S. having more crazies on the loose. It must be another factor, and that other factor points to the sheer volume of military style assault weapons owned and bought each year.  Let's examine this further.

First, in the interest of full and open disclosure let me make it clear I'm no "lily-livered lib" who's scared of guns or rifles (because I served in the Peace Corps). I know how to use them and can fire a rifle with sharpshooter accuracy using only a mechanical, e.g. "bridge" -sighting mechanical mount.

But my rifles,  for target practice, some hunting, and testing the Warren Commission "jet effect" hokum,  never included the use of AR-15s or other high powered rifles, e.g. like the Bushmaster .223. I believed then, and still do, that a real man doesn't need such fare. You don't need a military assault weapon for "protection"  or for hunting.   These assault weapons - which is what they are, let's not split definitional hairs between "automatics" and "semi-automatics" - are strictly for the purpose of mass killing. As, for example, in a war theater.  No upstanding citizen in these United States "needs" such a weapon.

Now,  I call "Gun -tards" all those - primarily of the Reeptard tribe - who sincerely believe any person in the U.S. is entitled by the 2nd amendment to own any gun or rifle he wants short of a .50 mm anti-aircraft gun.. And, by George, if a state law is passed that asserts you can own such, or buy such, then by god you can damned well do it!  In this regard let us note also that AR-15 style weapons are sold at the rate of 1.5 million a freaking year.  That is one fourth the number of autos sold each year.

Further, as an NBC News report explains, Americans own an estimated 15 million AR-15s. One in five guns sold in the United States is an AR-15-style weapon.

This is freaking insane and I will now proceed to show how the gun nuts who defend this insanity are basically chewing acid (LSD) drops  - that's how deranged and bereft of reason they are.   Let me, for perspective, interject the quote of former ATF agent Jim Cavanagh that: "The second amendment cannot be a national suicide pact or invitation to mass slaughter".  But that is effectively what the NRA gun lobby, the politicians they have in thrall, and gun-tards have made it.

Let's go through the seminal points beginning with whether any 18 year old in any state ought to be able to purchase an AR-15:

1) AR-15 purchase rights:

The gun -tards claim that the fault was in the mental health system (never mind Repukes have basically cut 13 million off Medicaid rolls in need of such help,  by gutting the ACA) not Florida's lax gun laws. These allow any person 18 or over to buy an AR-15. I call horse shit on that baloney for the simple reason - leaving out mental issues - that at the age of 18 the brain is still being formed. Don't take my word, look it up, e.g, Google!  The prefrontal cortex and its judgment centers are still in the process of growth and will be until the age of 22-23. That means any late teen who buys a gun isn't in full possession of his rational or judgmental faculties. (Why do you think so many are engaged in the idiotic "Tide Pod Challenge" or who like racing cars at 90-100 mph?)

It follows that any state law that would allow such purchase is itself insane, i,e, that law is an ass. It was also likely voted on by ass lawmakers, e.g. NRA slaves who need their money for re-election. Such is the case in FLA.

2) Lax gun laws can't  become the standards for the nation:

This is just a matter of common sense.  It would be roughly analogous to crazy state reg that allows driving at 100 mph in certain cities at night being mandated for every city in the country.  In fact, NO city should be allowing 100 mph driving even at night. In the same way, NO city or state should be allowing the purchase of ownership of a military style assault weapon that unleashed 30 rounds in seconds - unless one is headed to Afghanistan in the military.  As CBS co-host Gayle King phrased it - after watching a video from the anguished mother of one of the Parkland victims, screaming at Trump to do something: "No one should be able to own one of those assault weapons unless he wears a uniform"  Bingo!

Bottom line:  the lax and crazy state gun laws in Florida, cannot and must not be made a standard or desired ideal, for the nation.

3) The stringent state laws ought to be the ones made national:

If the arguments in (1) and (2) are valid, and they are -  unless one is a gun-tard -  then it follows that if any state laws are to be made national they must be from states like Massachusetts - which require not only passing a state -approved gun safety course first, but also being licensed - as one would if getting a car - as well as fingerprinted. (For details see my previous post).  The proof is in the pudding, as the old cliche goes, and we know the rate of gun deaths in Massachusetts is more than 6 times lower than in the lax NRA -- governed state of Florida.

4) If you make mental illness the culprit you lose if you cut funding for health care.

Trump's bloviations yesterday, "we're 'committed to working with our states and schools to tackle the difficult issue of mental health" - intended to soothe angst in Florida and the nation, merely enraged most sentient citizens.  That's because it was pure  PR and deflection, avoiding mention of the assault weapon at the center of the Parkland carnage in favor of empty bromides about "mental health".  Sorry, but you don't get to spout bollocks like this given your party is effectively planning to cut $1 trillion from Medicaid (to help offset revenue loss from the ill advised tax cuts). And those cuts are expected to affect nearly 13 million suffering with addictions and mental health problems like bipolar disorder.

5) The Second Amendment was written as a collective - not individual right.

I've gone through this before but let's do so again for the re-education mainly of the gun-tards who might be reading this.   The Second Amendment to the Constitution states:

"A self-Regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Now, one must understand and comprehend the era and period in which this was written. At that time muskets were the primary weapon, and no major organized standing army existed such as we have today. Indeed, the Continental Army of Washington, though it prevailed over the British, had massive war debts to pay off. There was no way to keep thousands of men under arms for sustained periods, as well as clothing and feeding them - far less recycling them with newer equipment each year!

It therefore became necessary to authorize the basis for a non-centralized force or "Militia" in order to supplement any governmentally organized army called up. This "Militia" originated in the countryside, from citizens living across the land in various villages, towns and states. In effect, the 2nd amendment drafters were asserting the necessity for a subsidiary people's army to assist the main one. Citizens then became in effect, necessary to the security of the nation. One could then describe the state militias as "adjunct armies".

Indeed, some interpreters of the amendment believe the original content is really even more diluted than what I portrayed. They see the "well regulated militia" provision as actually devised as protections from any marauding, "loose cannons". These interpreters insist the framers would never in a million years have envisaged people (individuals) possessing permanent private weapons in their own homes.

In  a controversial 1939 case, FDR's Solicitor General framed the argument to the Court:

"The Second Amendment grants people a right that is not one which may be utilized for private purposes but only exists where the arms are borne in a militia or some other military organization provided by law and intended for protection of the State."

The SC decision was unanimous.  This was barely 79 years ago, so what happened in the interim to debase the amendment to be unrecognizable today?

While the Court's decision prevailed for several more decades, it started to unravel by the 1970s as various Right wing extremist groups coalesced to challenge "gun control"  based on spurious private gun ownership  interpretations. By virtue of the infusion of millions of bucks  into state legislative campaigns they successively overturned laws in legislatures - much like the abortion opponents are now doing in many red states.

But then Chief Justice Warren Burger was dissuaded by the gun crazies' arguments, especially that the 2nd amendment granted every man the right to keep and bear arms on his own, responding that this interpretation was "one of the greatest pieces of fraud on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime."

Alas, as the strength and political power of the NRA metastasized, it was just a matter of time before more and more state legislatures (like in Florida) were bought out and their NRA slaves passed laws contravening Justice Burger's and the earlier 1939 ruling. This is why the only way things will change is to vote out the NRA political slaves, like Rick Scott, and vote in firm gun regulation leaders.

Yes, the gun-tards will scream that this amounts to "taking away citizen rights" but it no more does this than driving laws that prohibit driving on the wrong side of the highway, or driving 100 mph at night takes away driving rights..  We are not "taking away" rights but seeking temperate regulation such as in Massachusetts, e.g. requiring passing gun safety courses, being licensed to purchase ammo or guns, and being fingerprinted with the latter circulated to all state law enforcement centers - as well as a Criminal History Board such as in MA.

This is not too much to demand (say by the parents of the Parkland shooting victims)  given the lives that can be saved, and it's nowhere near as tough as Australia's gun laws - passed after a massacre in 1996 - that required turning in all military style assault weapons.

Conclusion:

What do we derive from the preceding arguments? That the REAL un-Americans (especially the NRA) are those who have twisted the meaning of the 2nd Amendment to their own ends, with the result that the fallout has created a never-ending sea of maimed, crippled and murdered gun victims. None of this will change until we return to the gun control concepts and legislation common 70 or more years ago, and flush the current deviant memes down the toilet of history, Again, gun regulation - especially via licensing, fingerprinting etc. - is NOT taking away rights, neither is outlawing the purchase of military style weapons.

The St. Valentine's Day Massacre In Florida - You Can Blame Governor Rick Scott Too!

Students are evacuated from the school.
Scene of bedlam at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, FL yesterday.

"Everybody's sayin' to themselves 'I wanna be safe. So my job as governor is to try to do everything I can to provide any services they need.  Ya know, hug people that wanna be hugged...."

 -  Gov. Rick Scott yesterday, after the massacre in Parkland, FL that claimed 17 lives, the worst high school shooting in American history.

First, let's make it clear the little scum ball who invaded Marjory Stoneman Douglas High and opened fire yesterday - killing 17 - is a maggot who deserves one of two ends: 1) Being fried in the Florida electric chair known as "Old Sparky" - maybe set it back up again after yrs. of disuse, or 2) being locked up in what - in the olden days - we called a "nut house". There given electric shock therapy several times a day while being kept in a strait jacket for the rest of his sorry ass life.

But while Nicholas Cruz will live in infamy along with the Columbine killers - who still cast a shadow over my state (Colorado)  - and is indeed the immediate source of the horrors that unfolded yesterday, we cannot let Florida's scumball Gov. Rick Scott off the hook. Not by a long shot, given Scott and his Repuke cabal in the Sunshine state have been responsible for passing some of the most lax gun laws in the nation.

This is important, because while the NRA bullshit lobby insists any new regulations - say strict licensing, fingerprinting   - won't do diddly, the state of Massachusetts and its own gun laws prove otherwise. As we learn from Wikipedia:

"Massachusetts Law requires firearm owners to be licensed through their local Police Department or the Massachusetts State Police if no local licensing authority is available. A license is required by state law for buying firearms and ammunition. An applicant must have passed a State approved firearm safety course before applying for a license.
All applications, interviews, fees, and fingerprinting are done at the local Police Department then sent electronically to the Massachusetts Criminal History Board for the mandatory background checks and processing. All approved applicants will receive their license from the issuing Police Department. All licensing information is stored by the Criminal History Board. Non residents who are planning on carrying in the state must apply for a temporary license to carry (LTC) through the State Police before their travel."

Now compare with Florida's lax laws, thanks to the likes of Rick Scott - who is convinced the most he can do for his state citizens is to dispense hugs and feel good platitudes:

Florida law prohibits localities from regulating firearms, other than with regards to zoning laws (i.e., for restricting where gun sellers may locate their businesses), the imposition of a 5 day waiting period to purchase firearms, and a background check for any sale of a firearm in the county where any part of the transaction occurs where the public has right of access.

Note carefully how this state lame law prohibits localities - like Parkland - from regulating firearms, i.e. restricting locations of gun sellers.  Wonder why the mass murderer Cruz found it so easy to get his AR-15? There's your answer. If you think that's atrocious, consider the state legislature - under pressure from Scott - is now considering legislation to do away with background checks entirely.

Let us note here  that the rate of gun deaths in MA is 2 per 100,000 compared to Florida's rate of 13.1 per 100,000. In other words, Florida's rate if more than six times greater. Why is that so? Is it because FLA has six times more mentally sick people? No, it's because Massachusetts has stiffer gun oversight. In Florida?  The wannabe killer just had to endure a five day wait and he completed a legal purchase. Now, put him instead in Massachusetts where he'd have had to first pass a state approved gun safety course, then be licensed and fingerprinted. Does anyone but a gun nut really believe he'd have done all that? But I submit it's precisely this rigorous process that weeds out nuts and criminals from the outset.

This isn't rocket science!

In a tweet this morning Trump made no mention of gun control, instead focusing on Cruz’s background. “So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior,” Trump wrote. “Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!”

Off Donnie Dotard's criminal radar was how easy it was for the punk to get unlicensed access to the weapon of his choice in the state of Florida, to partly fulfill his proclaimed ambition of "being a professional school shooter."    But why be surprised that a criminal "president" - who's manifestly colluded with a foreign power to overthrow our election system  would be a fan of another criminal, Rick Scott.

WOAAH! Excessive rhetoric? Nope! People need to grasp  Rick Scott is basically a criminal like Trump. When Rick Scott was in charge of Columbia HCA he bilk ed Medicare out of hundreds of millions and was fined heavily for it.  Indeed, he oversaw what has since become known as the largest Medicare fraud in  history. So in many respects, Scott and Trump are two peas in the same vermin pod. Noooooooo.....Scott didn't pull the trigger of that AR-15 that slaughtered those 17 victims. But, he did loosen the gun regulation laws to the point that a deranged maniac like Nicholas Cruz  could walk right into a gun shop or show and buy his choice of assault weapon.

Cruz bought the damned weapon, but Rick Scott "left the door open"  so he could.

As Lawrence O'Donnell put it last night on his "Last Word":

"Governor Rick Scott of Florida has done everything he possible can to make sure that the AR-15 assault weapon  is easily obtainable by any mass murderer in America.  That has been the mission of Republicans like Rick Scott. The reason that weapon is available in Florida - over the counter for anyone 18 years of age or older - is because of politicians like Rick Scott, who has made sure the weapon is as easy to buy as an automobile."

O'Donnell then played a clip of this foul maggot governor being asked the following question by a reporter:

"What business does a 19 year old have with owning an AR-15 specifically?"

Realizing he was cornered like a rat, Scott tap danced all over the place, ending with some vapid remark along the lines of:  "We're gonna learn all the facts then we can determine the future ...you know,  how we can continue to make this place safe,"

How "to make this place safe?" You fucking bozo! You impose strict licensing laws like Massachusetts!  And then enforce them!

But like his fellow Florida imp - Marco Rubio - who also questions whether any gun law could work to save lives in Florida - Rick Scott has his balls in hock to the NRA. They own his ass like they own Rubio's and most of the poltroons that make up the Repuke Party.

Bear all this in mind as you further learn about this  tragedy which appears to be the eighth deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history and one of the worst ever school massacres.

When will Florida and the rest of the lax gun states get serious about protecting their citizens? Will it be after a heavily armed maniac barges into a nursery with a newly purchased AR- 15 (no background check) and slaughters 50 infants in their cribs? Janice doesn't believe things will change even then, and frankly, neither do I - so long as we keep putting verminous rats  like Rick Scott into office.

A study in the journal Health Affairs concluded that the United States has become “the most dangerous of wealthy nations for a child to be born into.”   According to the Health Affairs study. the homicide rate in this country is 49 times higher than in other rich countries,  This is one of three major reasons why the U.S. is the most" dangerous of wealthy nations for a child to be born into.”   The other two are: 1) the high rate of infant mortality and 2) the abnormally high rate of teen vehicular deaths.

Selected Questions -Answers From All Experts Astronomy Forum (Gravity Wells)

Question -

I actually have two questions, I know that the answers may be highly
theoretical because of limited knowledge we have of black holes, but any
answer - even theory - is welcome.

1. If a photon has no mass, how come light is drawn into a black hole?

2. What method of propulsion do black holes use the move themselves
through space? How is their movement in a vacuum achieved?

Thanks for your time mate

Answer -

You are quite correct in assuming that the answers are 'highly
theoretical', and I don't see how these can be made much simpler than
provided below.

First, a physical definition. For a term we call "inertia". This is any
resistance to change in position or motion.

You can think of it as a kind of "foundational" mass. It is the most
basic, fundamental concept we have by which "mass" can be recognized.

That is, when we perform an experiment and find that 'X' (whatever 'X' is)
exhibits a resistance to change its position or motion.

Keeping that thought in mind, we come to the photon. We already know that
light carries energy, usually expressed in a simple form as:

E = hf

where h is the Planck constant, and f is the frequency of the light.

But what many general readers do not know is that light also carries
momentum. For example, whenever light is emitted from some source there is
a tiny but definite "recoil" effect. (Something like you experience from
the stock of a rifle, if you've ever fired on a rifle range).

This recoil betrays the presence of what we call "momentum" to do with the
photon.

This is given by the product of one over its speed (1/c) times the energy,
E. Writing the momentum as p:

p = E x (1/c)  = E/c

We already have a good hint that photons have mass-inertia associated
with them from Einstein's equation:

E =  m c 2     (E = mass x speed of light squared).

Therefore, the mass is:

m =  E /   c 2 (Energy divided by speed squared).

This equation (above) can be combined with the earlier one we obtained
 (E   = p c) to give:

m = p / c

Thus, the "mass" associated with a photon is its momentum divided by its
speed, c.

Other experiments validate this, including one in which a (true) radiometer is
bombarded with light, and turns it vanes - spins them around. This is a
result of the pressure of light exerted on the vane surfaces. (You perhaps
have seen this device in action, though most of them are really toys that
operate on a different principle from the real ones).

Basically, light cannot possibly exert any "pressure" unless it also
carries mass, or inertia.

Having said all this, it is important to recognize that in all these cases
I've noted we are looking at photons MOVING!

Once they cease to move, they no longer exhibit mass.

Thus, what you are really thinking of when you say "if a photon has no
mass", is REST MASS. The mass it exhibits when at rest.

And, of course, this is zero.

Hopefully, you can see from the above, that there is no contradiction. The
light that is prevented from escaping from black holes or drawn into them,
is moving - NOT at rest. Hence, it exhibits all the properties of mass or
inertia.

Regarding your second question, black holes like the stars they collapsed
from occupy specific regions of space-time. Hence, they are not
"propelled" like rockets or anything.

Rather, as part of a dynamical system (say the galaxy) they will move in
accord with the Newton's law of gravitation - given their distance from
the mass center of the galaxy, and the nature and masses of nearby bodies.

Since space itself is a vacuum, this motion is no more mysterious than the
planets of our Solar System moving "through a vacuum". Vacua provide no
impediment to motion, and indeed, every body in the cosmos will move under
the influence of the gravitational forces at work in its neighborhood.

The bottom line is that the presence of gravity means that NO body in the
universe can remain "still" or "motionless".

Can We All Finally Admit Trump Is A Traitor?

Image result for Trump as Traitor

Some folks, ensconced in media or defensive personal bubbles,  will likely believe this question is hysterical or off the wall. But seriously, think about it for a moment. What the hell would you call the chief executive of a country - who has been repeatedly informed (most recently via Senate Intel Hearings) -    about an impending hacking of our next election,  but chooses not to do a fucking thing? If this bastard is not a traitor then what the hell is he? Tell me!

Yesterday in open hearings,  the heads of all the nation's intelligence agencies were asked if anything proactive was being done to protect the integrity of our midterm elections. Their answers all dovetailed: none had received  specific orders from the "president".  (I use scare quotes because I do not regard the turd occupying the office as legitimate and I certainly have no respect for him.  Those I have respect for I refrain from calling "turds", "offal" and "vermin".)

Sen. Angus King was so enraged in his questioning he nearly popped a blood vessel, asking: "How am I supposed to deal with this when the citizens of my state merely shrug shoulders about the risk to elections and say they believe the President?"  This is in regard to Trump's failure to do a goddamned thing to thwart foreign interference, even hacking of the states' voter rolls..  Indeed,  Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats was adamant at yesterday's hearing:

"Frankly, the United States is under attack. "

Again, if one knows the scale of the threat -and is the head of  the country -but does nothing to stop it what does that make him? It tells me he is a traitor, no euphemisms, no bullshit.

Coats went on to note that "the risk of inter state conflict is the highest at any time since the Cold War."  This is based on a 28-page intelligence community report, asserting that Russia views the 2018 elections aa a potential target for hacking units backed by the Russian government, Recall in 2016 the GRU was behind the hacks in the effort to get Trump into office.

A number of Senators pressed the intelligence chiefs on whether Trump was taking the threat seriously. Sen Jack Reed, for example, asked: "Has the president directed you and your agency to take specific actions to blunt or confront Russian hacking activities that are ongoing?"

The answer from FBI head Christopher Wray: "We have no actions being taken specifically directed by the president."

The same answer was delivered by the other intel heads.

In other words, Traitor Trump is prepared to let it happen all over again.

Recall last month, in the midst of secretly meeting in D.C.  with Russian intelligence agents (which we only learned because Russian News broadcast it)  Trump refused  to impose additional sanctions on Russia for its meddling in the presidential election. This despite near unanimous support from congress and total agreement from intel agencies.

Experts note that as Trump simply ignores this issue the cyber attacks will become much more effective. What would be done with such a traitor president even fifty years ago?   Let me give you a clue: In late 1962, and early '63 JFK was believed to have been a traitor for: 1) allowing removal of Jupiter missiles from Turkey to appease the Russians after the Cuban Missile crisis, 2)  signing a nuclear test ban treaty with Nikita Khrushchev and 3) planning a total pullout of U.S. troops from Vietnam by calendar year 1965.   Of course, Kennedy's moves were only perceived to be traitorous, where in fact they were in the national interest. He was not, after all, conniving with Russians (the then USSR) to undermine U.S. elections or enabling any kind of attacks on the homeland.

Hmmmmm....seems to me the notorious "deep state" so often cited by the Trumpsters, sees no reason to act even as our entire election system is befouled and compromised.

Just saying..

All this has unfolded even as we also learned yesterday that  FBI director, Chris Wray contradicted the Dotard  White House about when the bureau had completed a background investigation of former Trump aide Rob Porter. The bum  resigned last week following compelling allegations of domestic violence, which features a black eye on one of the victims - Colbie Holderness.

Predictably, the Trumpies  claimed ignorance of any allegations of spousal abuse against Porter, who was promoted to become a close aide to Dotard.  That  continued until the moment Holderness'  graphic photos were published.   It was then left to the lying sack of shit, John Kelly, to try to explain it away i.e. "I only discovered there was an ongoing investigation 40 minutes after the allegations and the photos' release." Blah blah.

But Wray testified before Congress that the FBI had submitted a completed background investigation on Porter to the White House in July 2017 and later supplied two follow-up reports.

“We administratively closed the file in January” of 2018, Wray said, setting a date months before the White House officials said they knew about the allegations.

In other words, these vermin are consummate liars as well as traitors.  And they have the absolute balls to flaunt the red, white and blue? They really need a firing squad, like in the old days when treason was actually punished.

The saddest aspect? There are still too many of our citizens whose minds have been polluted by FOX News and WSJ editorial propaganda to be convinced this is all a Hillary-DNC plot to overthrow the Trump "election".   In fact, Trump and his crew of treacherous rats have done that all by themselves.  By their collusion with the Russkies (Trump has contacted Putin 8 times in the last year)  they've shown  they are illegitimate heirs to power - proven by the fact they needed the assistance of a foreign adversary to gain it.

As Janice has also pointed out, we may never ever be able to repair the damage these foul reprobates have done to our country. Each day they remain in power lasting assaults are inflicted on our civil discourse, our nation's honor and security, as well as our democratic institutions.  Many, indeed, e.g. David Frum in 'Trumpocracy",  believe the sowing of aberrational new debased "normals" poses a destructive force by itself.

I can just imagine my Revolutionary War ancestor Conrad Brumbaugh's reaction to this perfidy: "Is THIS what I and others fought for in the War of Independence, to put a future traitor and tyrant into the seat of  power?"
