First Clue: Toad Venom Crystals Do NOT A "God Molecule" Make - And Certainly Not For A "Religious Experience"

Back in the day, many Boomers sought a brief high either sniffing gasoline fumes or airplane cement - freshly squeezed while building an airplane model (Revell kit).  If mom or dad popped in the room and asked: "What is that odor, like a chemical?" the smart kid just held up the partially completed model - usually a German Messerschmidt, Japanese Zero or Russian MIG-15- and then the model cement used to put it together.  No biggie.

Ultimately, eventually, we matured and didn't need artificial (or natural) substances to get a high or detach from reality. We found it (many of us) in the dedication of energy to some purpose or project outside ourselves. For me it was astronomy, spurred on after receiving a brand new Tasco  2.4" refracting telescope for a Xmas gift in 1960.

Nowadays, many seem to recognize the inherent risk in unregulated foreign-sourced fentanyl, synthetic MJ, acid (LSD) or speed - and that includes many of the younger and older generations. Now, they are going to a more natural high (apart from shrooms) and are reaching for the venom of a rare toad - the Sonoran Desert Toad.  One of the largest toads native to North America and remarkably long-lived with a life span reaching 20 years, it hibernates underground for most of the year, resurfacing to breed around the summer monsoon rains.  Herpetologists say the toad seems to have adapted to human-modified landscapes like irrigation ditches, suburban yards and water tanks on cattle ranches.

Evidently, from recent news reports (LA Times) the standard method to achieve a high - like in obscure rituals-  is to grab one of the little beasties then scare it-  or threaten it in some way.  The goal being to entice it to expel venom which can then be used after conversion to crystal form.  Toad "crackheads" meanwhile have labeled the venomous crystals "Five" or "Bufo"  (the generic Latin for Toad ) -  after the amphibian’s former scientific name, Bufo alvarius.  It has since been renamed Incilius alvarius, maybe to try to change the meme.

When the toad is threatened, it excretes toxins strong enough to kill full-grown dogs. A substance found in these toxins, 5-MeODMT, can then be dried into crystals and smoked in a pipe, producing an intense experience.  This experience sometimes  lasts 15-30 minutes and is in contrast to other psychedelic substances  (like LSD) that can involve hours of hallucinating and vomiting.  The 'buzz' from the fix is said to be "unreal" and in combination with the downsides of other hallucinogens deludes too many into believing the toad crack is benign.  It emphatically isn't.

Five-MeO-DMT remains effectively illegal in the United States, where it is classified as a Schedule 1 substance. But while many users opt to attend retreats in Mexico, where it is legal, ceremonies are also taking place in the U.S., where law enforcement agencies are largely tolerating its growing popularity.  This is not necessarily a good idea and may derive from the fact that the laws on the books simply haven't caught up to how it's being processed and imbibed.

For one thing the dried, smoked form can still cause convulsions - many instances of which have been posted in the press and on social media.  E.g.

These "ritual" users also risk a horrifically bad death if they happen to be allergic to the venom in whatever form.  A photographer died in one episode in Spain in 2020 after smoking the venom. At some retreats, operators have paramedics on standby to help people who might have negative reactions.   But even that may not help if the person is highly allergic. In addition, motorists already kill many of the toads, and predators such as raccoons also target them.   There is then a good case foe naturalists and environmentalist to make the critter a protected species.

Alas, in many cases the blame can be put in Tik-Tokkers and others who are trying to spread the toad crack memes.  That includes celebrities from Chelsea Handler to Joe Rogan who have bragged about smoking the venom and claiming mind expansion afterward.   Thanks to these misguided fools interest in toad crack is climbing, with users often calling it the “God molecule,” likening its use to a religious experience.  But don't be fooled or lulled into stupidity. No 'God' of any sort can be found in a molecule from an amphibian's venom.  And any experiences derived from it won't be "religious" and are more likely to send users to the same psychotic ends as the QAnon zombies, e.g.

Revisiting Complex Fourier Series

The Fourier series can easily be represented in complex form, which I examine in this post.  To begin with, we consider representing the Fourier trig function in complex form, e.g.

cos npx/ L    = [exp inpx/ L  +   exp - inpx/ L] / 2

sin  npx/ L    = [exp inpx/ L  -   exp - inpx/ L] / 2i

And one complex form for the Fourier series is:

f(x) =     å ¥-¥   n  exp i2px/ L

And the Fourier coefficient can be written:

n  =  1/2 (n    -   i b n )    For n >  0

n  =  1/2 (n    +    i b n )    For n <   0

n    =  o  / 2

The basic complex Fourier series integral can then be written:

ò -L  +L   exp inpx/ L  exp - impx/ L  dx   =    ò -L +L    exp  i(np  -mp)x/ L  dx

And the functions are orthogonal on the interval (-L < x L)  and we obtain for the Fourier coefficient:

n  =  1/2L  ò -L  +L   f(x) exp (- inpxL )  dx

Problems for the math whiz:

1) For the function:

f(t)  =   {0    for  h <  t <   2p

         =   {1  for    0  <  t  <   h

Over 0 < t   <    2 p        h >  0

Give a simplified expression for the associated Fourier coefficient if:    n  =  1/2 p  ò 2p  0   f(t)  exp (-int) dt

1/ 2p ò 2p  h    e - int  dt

2) Let k =  k1 + ik2 be a complex variable.  Let f(x) be a real-valued function of a real variable x and define:

F + (k)  =   Ö (2/  p )    ò ¥ 0    f(x) exp (ikx) dx

Find F + (k)    for:   x N e -x

(N an integer)

Forget Hunter Biden's Laptop! DOJ Needs To Focus On The REAL Criminals In Our Midst: Trump And His Cabal

"NO worries little birdie, we have lots of stupid pundits who believe there was no collusion!"

How long will Merrick Garland twiddle his thumbs before bringing the hammer down on Trump et al?

"Why the lies and crimes committed in the Trump Administration have not been prosecuted as treasonous crimes against the United States is a mystery to me."-  Letter writer in Sunday Denver Post,  p. 3D

Holman Jenkins Jr.,  WSJ's No. 1 hack and troll,  claims in a recent piece (Why the Biden Laptop Matters Now) that he's:  "been wondering when our media, at least those with a long-term hope of authority, would begin clawing back from their Russia collusion disgrace."   For Jenkins Jr.,  the "truth" is all in what a two -bit rag like the New York Post puts out, full stop. As he puts it:

"The laptop story, broken by the New York Post, was everything the Russia collusion story wasn’t: meticulous, transparent, on-the-record sourcing; contemporaneous, documentary evidence that doesn’t depend on a source’s after-the-fact recollection or spin.

A paper of record has one job, to let its readers know what’s true and what isn’t."

Well, sonny, the paper of record was not the NY Post, hate to have to break it to you!  Why, after all, did the lead author actually pull his byline before it came to print?  Well, because he knew it was bogus. See e.g.

Meanwhile, we KNOW the Russia-Trump conniving and self -serving power transactions were as real as a heart attack, e.g.

Of Course There’s Evidence Trump Colluded with Russian Intelligence - Lawfare (lawfareblog.com)

Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Tribe, indeed, memorialized the import of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's findings from Part 1 of his report:   www.justice.gov/storage/report.pdf

And on MSNBC (All In with Chris Hayes) soon after they came out, e.g. in his words:

"What we have here is a situation where the Mueller report shows without any doubt that a hostile foreign power attacked the United States in this (2016) election.  That Donald Trump welcomed that attack, benefited from it and then - the last couple of years - tried to cover it up every possible way."

Don't take my word, do your own digging and research beyond what the propaganda arms (WSJ op-ed pages, FOX News)  of Murdoch Inc. want you to believe!

To jog readers memories this was the typical tabloid presentation  e.g.

by the NY Post when the alleged story broke at the end of October, 2020, and which I skewered in an Oct. 30th  post exposing Jenkins' sloppy research and indefensible rubbish. But this cooked crappola is nothing of the magnitude the breathless Jenkins makes it out to be, and nowhere near the massive crimes Trump has committed.

The fuel for this latest Hunter Biden BS is being stoked by another Trumpie holdover in the DOJ - David C. Weiss - the U.S. Attorney for Delaware who initiated the "investigation".   Incredibly,  Garland's DOJ plans to ask for the resignations of other Trump holdovers but plans to keep Weiss for the Hunter Biden investigation. (See top link at bottom).  Why?  Why is Garland more invested in this than issuing Mark Meadows (and other Trump traitors, including John Eastman) contempt referrals?

According to what  CNN reported Wednesday this bunkum is "gathering steam". But let us be crystal clear that Hunter Biden has not been charged with any crimes - whether "money laundering", conniving with the Chinese "communists" (Sen. Chuck Grassley's parlance)  or anything else and has denied any wrongdoing. To quote from the recent WSJ editorial questioning the ability to prove Trump's guilt in fomenting the insurrection (WSJ, Apr. 2-3, p. A14):

"Any criminal case would have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, a much tougher standard and the jury must be unanimous to convict"

Even with a grand jury, though lesser standards, Weiss's case against Hunter Biden should be difficult to make given the conflict of interests with this investigator as a Trump holdover at DOJ.  Besides, what would the intent be?  After all, his father is not being investigated as part of the probe of his son's business activities, according to sources who have been briefed. So there is no side benefit to the President. In other words, this looks like another DOJ wild goose chase, diverting resources from nailing the real criminals allied with Trump as well as that treasonous, orange ratbag scumball too.

But the potential damage of this farce is even worse, since we know the GOP, pro-Trump traitors will latch onto it as a device to nullify and cross-check the January 6th committee investigations. (Which the equally bogus Durham probe into the Trump cabal investigators is already doing, e.g.

Indeed, when the original bogus Hunter Biden laptop story broke, blogger Heather Digby Parton warned of the noxious zeal with which the GOP would seize it to try to take down Biden.  Because they and the entire right-wing media sphere will make sure of it.  This is exactly what's happening now as it's been resurrected by the Trump holdover U.S. attorney from Delaware, ensconced in the DOJ  - which really needs an overall house-clearing of all the Trumpie holdouts, e.g.

Meanwhile because of Garland's unwillingness to terminate these specious Trumpian vendetta "investigations" - by pro-Trump DOJ fifth columnists-  the judicial processes to get TRUMP and his gang are held up.  Also enabling the likes of Jenkins Jr. having the utter gall to compare the Trump shakedown of Ukraine president Zelinsky to Hunter Biden's laptop "scandal" with this twaddle:

"As tasteless as the Trump-Zelensky phone call may have been, in Hunter Biden’s activities while his father was leading U.S. Ukraine policy Mr. Putin would have seen the kind of oligarchic corruption he could recognize."

WTF?!  Oligarchic corruption?  What the hell is he even yapping about?  Tasteless?  You mean like using the wrong fork at a state dinner? Fuck no! The Trump phone call was an impeachable offense as well as treason and ought to have seen the maggot removed from office by the Senate and tossed into SuperMax, e.g.

But the GOOps as usual, were more dedicated to their allegiance to Trump than to the Constitution.  Just as they were dedicated to covering up for the traitor when the Russian liaisons were going on in 2016.
Remember how "Moscow Mitch" McConnell threatened then President Barack Obama with scorched earth to keep the nation in the dark about what the government knew—before the election—about Russia’s interference on behalf of Trump? In 2016, when the Obama administration’s intelligence agencies knew that Russia was interfering to help Trump, McConnell covered it up.  Traitor Trump damned well knew himself what he was doing, and was so emboldened he even barked out orders for Putin to snag Hillary's emails!  Recall when he belched:

"I will tell you this, Russia if you're listening, I hope that you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. You will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let's see if that happens."

And let's not forget the July 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting between five Russians including lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya    and three top members of the Trump campaign including: Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort.  What does little Holman think, they were just all together playing tiddly winks?

Besides, Mueller not only defined a conspiracy in the case of his indictment filed against 12 GRU agents in 2018, but made it public, E.g.

[Read the indictment here.]

Further, the 434-page report issued by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz  back in December, 2019, concluded the FBI had an “authorized purpose” when it initiated its investigation, known as Crossfire Hurricane, into the Trump campaign. In doing so, Horowitz implicitly rejected GOP assertions that the case was launched out of political animus, or that the FBI broke its own rules on using informants

Any other doubts from normal people (not Holman Jenkins) that Trump and cohorts were in it up their necks with the Russkies can be eliminated by perusing this document:

Volume 5: Counterintelligence Threats and Vulnerabilities,”

In his most recent display of rank treason Trump outdoes himself by begging Putin- in the midst of an ungodly campaign of slaughter- to get Hunter Biden's "materials." This despite Putin raining atrocities on Ukrainian citizens, sending millions of refugees west into Europe.  But Donald John Trump seems willing to overlook all of that in service of his own perceived interests. Else, why did this beast push   an unproven claim about Hunter  Biden's laptop asking Putin to help him in his dirty work by:  "releasing any information he might have", while adding:

"I would think Putin would know the answer to that.  I think he should release it. I think we should know that answer.

Like Holman Jenkins Jr.-   he is obsessed with Hunter Biden’s laptop and business doings because it provides fuel to his traitor cult and GOP aspirations to regain power in the midterms. Why else beg the most savage autocrat since Stalin to get the goods on Hunter’s laptop for him?

In the meantime. we need Merrick Garland to clean house at Justice, and halt these specious side investigations from Trumpie U.S. attorney holdovers.  These simply play into the traitor's (and GOP cult's) hands as well as FOX propaganda narratives. Thereby undercutting the Jan. 6th Select Committee's work and setting the stage for a debacle in the midterms.  We need all the resources focused on one thing only: getting all these seditionists behind bars or expelled from office.

As to why this lot of seditionist Trumpian traitors have not yet been prosecuted -  the question posed by one Denver Post letter writer (top of post) - that remains a mystery.  But as Janice surmises it is likely because the insurrectionists and their overthrow architects (like John Eastman) are mostly white. If this lot were all black or Muslims we are sure they'd have been locked up in SuperMax or Gitmo in a heartbeat.

— from The New Civil Rights Movement

Excerpt:

A reporter at the Dept. of Justice Friday asked Attorney General Merrick Garland the question that’s been on many minds of late: Why hasn’t former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows been formally charged with criminal contempt of Congress?

On December 14 the full House of Representatives sent DOJ a contempt of Congress referral for Meadows. Since that time even more damning information has been reported by the press.

The Attorney General was not just unwilling to give a direct answer, he was unwilling to even confirm there was a referral sent to DOJ, a commonly-known fact that is also in the official Congressional Record.

And:

Excerpt:

In remarks scheduled the day before the one-year anniversary of the Capitol insurrection, Attorney General Merrick Garland swore that his agency would not let power and privilege shield those responsible for the assault on our democracy.

"The Justice Department," he promised, "remains committed to holding all January 6th perpetrators, at any level, accountable under law." Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers, he said, would "follow the facts wherever they lead."

It's now been nearly three months since those remarks, and unfortunately, it's starting to look very much like the elite Republicans who were part of a conspiracy to overthrow democracy are, in fact, too swaddled by status and wealth to be held accountable under the law. Every day, the extent of the conspiracy and the number of high-level GOP officials and activists involved with Donald Trump's attempted coup becomes more clear. Yet the DOJ appears to be doing little, if anything, to charge them with crimes. It's gotten to the point where the members of the January 6 committee are publicly begging Garland to do something.

"Attorney General Garland," Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va said Monday evening, "do your job so we can do ours." Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., concurred by noting that "there is no oversight, and without oversight, no accountability."

If Garland's hesitation comes from a belief that prosecuting coup-related crimes is too "political" to be handled by the DOJ, well, then he needs to be a better student of history. It's not just that dealing with people like Trump and his co-conspirators has always been a part of the DOJ's mission, it's that stopping racist and anti-democratic criminal conspiracies like Trump's attempted coup is quite literally what the DOJ was founded to do.

Genetically-Engineered Ape 'Bosco' Home Schools Girl In AP Calculus

Bosco the great ape has found a new line of work after being rescued from a lab for cosmetics testing. He’s now got a new lease on life teaching AP Calculus to a home-schooled girl in Evansville, Indiana. 16-year old April Janelle Furst has been trying to get a handle on her AP Calculus for the past five months, to no avail. Her parents have since begun to home school her, and have recruited Bosco – an accomplished math ape - to assist.

According to April’s Mom, May, Bosco has his own office in the unused garage extension, including access to a computer and monitor that enables him to not only use the standard symbols of calculus –including integral signs, and summation symbols, but also to export them into computation programs like Mathcad, and transmit the results to April, sitting at her computer inside her bedroom. There, April also has a transparent screen on which she can work out the calc problems assigned by Bosco.

“Sometimes his problems are really, really hard!” she chirps. “But if I run into a road block, he’s always happy to help me out! And all I need to do is pay him a few bananas and coconuts a day!”

Bosco’s abilities in math first came to light at the lab where he underwent assorted frontal lobe experiments, including injecting human neurons into Bosco's neocortex. Soon after, when a sheet of paper accidentally got pushed under his cage, he scratched in what looked like derivatives, and integral signs. His handlers, amazed at the discovery, believed that the chimp had way too much math talent on offer to be subjected to painful injections of assorted chemicals for the cosmetic industry. So they put out ads on his abilities, and offered him for sale to the first kind owner who could pay $100. Harvey Furst saw the ads, and arrived within a day after their initial appearance, to bring home the math ape genius. He hasn’t regretted it yet.

According to Harvey:

"I must say, he also has marvelous hygiene habits and knows how to use the toilet in the garage. This is one exceptional ape!"

What does all this mean for standard evolutionary theory? Maybe that it will have to be revised to account for some great apes (namely chimps  of a certain genetic pedigree) having at least as much brain power (or more) as certain quasi-political  humans who follow a bipedal orange maggot that lives in Florida.

Harvey adds:

“Bosco is also terrific at games of strategy, including chess and GO. I am sure he could wallop most Americans' behinds without even batting an eyelash! Besides whenever he sees a picture of the orange guy from Mar-a-lago, Bosco goes bonkers. He rips it up then defecates on it.  Go figure!”

In the meantime, April has now returned to work on her latest problem from Bosco: to find the minimum of a third degree curve, f(x) = x
3  - x 2 + 2, and show how she obtained it (see middle image).
