The Swine-In -Chief Gets Impeached On Both Articles - Likely Now Becoming the "OJ Simpson" of U.S. Presidents.

"Politics doesn't corrupt people, people corrupt politics."  - Federal court judge Amy  Berman Jackson, Tuesday in issuing judgment of Trump campaign chief Rick Gates.

"What we've just spent hours absorbing is the existential question of our time: Is the law more important or is partisanship?  The Democratic party did the right thing in this case. The Republican party decided their partisan passion was more important than their brains, and their hearts. Appetites is what won the day for them.   -  Jon Meacham, author of 'The Soul of America."

"For the most unpredictable of presidents, it was the most predictable of outcomes. Is anyone really surprised that President Trump was impeached? His defiant disregard for red lines arguably made him an impeachment waiting to happen."  - Peter Baker, NY Times

"Here's a president being accused of horrible things, of selling out his office and the public trust for personal gain.  And yet all day long, with all the Republicans speaking-    able to say whatever they wanted all day long - not one stood in that well and defended this president's character. Not one said he's an honest man. Not one person said he's a good man. Not one person said he couldn't have done something like this. That is powerful stuff. That a party felt they could play all the games today- talk about tactics ad style - but they never defended the man, the person in the White House, his character.  This is extraordinary." - Chris Matthews last night, MSNBC, following the passing of Article II.

"One side was all white and screaming, the other side was faithful to the case it built. And the main article of abuse of power wasn't in dispute.  But all the Republicans just said that this is an impeachment looking for a crime. They never took the second step and said there wasn't one."- Nicole Wallace, MSNBC after passage of Articles of impeachment last night, MSNBC

All you needed to know about why the pestilence  fouling  the presidency needed to be impeached was contained in the deranged,  batshit crazy harangue that passed for a letter two days ago - sent to Nancy Pelosi.   That 6 -page written excrement showed this viper not only believed himself to be above the law, but employing incendiary terms like "attempted coup" to describe a constitutionally valid process to hold a lawless executive to account. The so-called "letter" then, was truly sick (as Ms. Pelosi noted) , as sick as Trump pedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein's shameless pleas for leniency, after being caught with young girls in his lair.

Trump hobnobbing with pedo pal Epstein.  Slime of a feather hang together.

It is hard to capture how bizarre and frightening Trump’s letter to Pelosi is

Hence, this sickening missive  redolent with consciousness of guilt - despite the faux outrage-   bears precisely the analog of a brazen pedo's demand for exoneration and release,  while projecting his crimes onto others.  In the end,  the "letter"  merits  treatment only as an exhibit of the depths of Trump's depravity: an  expulsion of raw, neural sewage, nothing more. Memetic fecal matter.  On  second thought, perhaps as final evidence for serious psychotherapeutic intervention once he is removed, or leaves office. As my psychologist niece put it: "He needs ECT big time!"

Her basis for that conclusion?  Such deranged, batshit crazy claims as “more due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials”.   Showing again he knows about as much history as his stupid son, Don Jr.  Meanwhile,  his Republican lickspittle asswipes remained in lockstep, showing no signs of even beginning to listen to Democratic arguments or find a sliver of common ground.  Indeed, some of them went into such rarefied psychotic territory as to compare Trump's plight to Jesus' crucifixion. Thus,  Georgia congressman Barry Loudermilk  told the House: "When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave him the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial Pilate afforded more rights too Jesus than Democrats have afforded the president in this process."

In short, Trump became - for Barry 'Brain Fart' and the Repukes-  bigger than Jesus. For them, what does not kill Donnie Dotard makes him stronger.   Forgetting that: a)Trump is not  even a putative  Savior and (b) He was afforded every opportunity to present his side (but refused to, calling it a "sham") and c) Trump was caught openly bragging of his crimes as well as inviting other nations (e.g. China) to interfere in our elections- even after being exposed by the whistleblower.

So why anyone with half a brain  would be caught inside the Repukes' foggy narrative of "no evidence"  is beyond me. As former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal remarked last night on MSNBC:

"I was struck by the fact there was no defense of the president's character or his conduct. They attacked the process and things like that. But as we think about moving beyond the nanosecond of 2020, we can ask what is Donald Trump's legacy going to be?  I think even this party, even with all the sophistry we heard today, they couldn't muster up a defense of the man. And I think that will condemn him in the eyes of history, regardless of what happens in the Senate. It will be the first line that everyone says about president Trump for the next hundred, two hundred years. 'President Trump who was impeached'."

Why did Dotard erupt in that letter?  Because for the first time in his miserable,  grifting criminal life he knew he would not able to get away with his cheating.   All the tricks, court delay games, rope-a-dopes and sundry schemes he exploited through the 80s, 90s and beyond finally came to a crashing end. And so it was yesterday that  Nancy Pelosi and the House Dems-  with myriad allusions to the constitution, democracy and the founding fathers-  sealed Trump’s fate as the third U.S . president to be impeached.

And despite all the caterwauling by the Right's minions ("the Dems just want to unelect him",  "the left hates him" etc.), as well as ignorant fellow citizens who might believe their bollocks it's "all a waste of time",  "a distraction" or a "hoax",  this vile swine occupying the Oval Office has finally been held to account.   He  now grasps he cannot do anything he wants, and there are limits to his power, as the framers of the Constitution intended there to be, i.e. George Mason writing:

"Shall the man who has practiced corruption, and by that means procured his appointment in the first instance, be suffered to escape punishment by repeating his guilt?"

In other words, should an unfit swine like Donald Trump, who's already escaped accountability in the Mueller investigation,  now be allowed to once more use bribery of a foreign power to get re-re-elected, and thereby escape his just punishment?

Thus, Mason was aware that it's not just the corruption he was worried about (like other Founders, e.g. James Madison) but also if such man becomes corrupt enough that he can corrupt the electoral process itself, to get into power again- and escape all sanction.

This despite the thousands of his protectors and enablers determined to put party over country - as well as keep their bogus monarch.  Yes, as a WaPo piece noted today, this nation is "riven by political tribalism" where the two sides can't even agree on the same facts. But take a step back and ask: 'Whose fault is that?'. Well, it lies on one side - the Trump - Reepo cult- creating and sustaining a 'parallel universe' of its own fabricated reality via FOX News, Limbaugh etc. and their nonstop effluent and propaganda.  So long as that parallel universe of fake facts exists and is sustained, this nation will be politically split.

Yes, this filth will be acquitted in the Reep -corrupted Senate, it's pretty well a foregone conclusion. But make no mistake, that is not the same as any vindication, as his brainless backers keep howling. No, this impeachment now goes down in the annals of American history irrespective of what the Russia-backing Reepo vermin do in the Senate.  Hence, this orange fungal blight on the nation will forever carry the black mark of impeachment next to his name, defiling whatever "legacy" he hopes to build-  as one WaPo writer (Jonathan Lemire) wrote today:

"The two articles of impeachment approved stand as a constitutional rebuke that will stay with Trump even as he tries to trivialize their meaning and use them to power his re-election bid in 2020."

Neal Katyal also predicted as much last night.  There is no way in hell that either Trump,  or his sickening reptile sycophants, will remove that stain of history.

Further, like O.J. Simpson, the stain of guilt will follow him like a foul body odor that no soap can remove.  O.J , recall , was acquitted at his trial ("if the glove does not fit, you must acquit"), but remained with the stain of guilt attached.  There was no "vindication" for him.  Being vindicated means it being proven that something you did was right, or - in the case of being accused of heinous deeds -those  being proven untrue.  That didn't happen for O.J. - nor will it for Trump. Because the hundreds of pages of ironclad testimony and evidence - including Trump's own admissions- are already out there.   Every  sentient being knew at the time of his acquittal that O.J. was still  guilty, and so also it will be with Gangster Trump.

Nonetheless, we know the Reep liars, scum and knuckle draggers -- who have neither the brains nor heart to face the truth - as author Jon Meacham put it,  will savage everyone connected to the vote like the rabid ferrets they are.   As blogger Heather Digby Parton noted (see link to her blog post at bottom):

"Declaring war on virtue altogether and embracing vice as your organizing principle is what mobsters and tyrants do. That’s what’s happening under President Trump.

During the 2016 campaign, he proudly declared that he meant to torture, kill civilians and “take the spoils” of war if he wanted to. Today, he’s pardoning war criminals and bringing them up on stage at political events. While he does lie profusely and conspires with his henchmen, much of his alleged criminal behavior in the White House has been done right out in the open. He admitted he fired former FBI Director James Comey because Comey was investigating him. He dangled pardons and intimidated witnesses in public statements. Most recently he released a transcript of a phone call in which he tried to coerce a foreign leader to smear his political rival, calling it “perfect.”  Now Republican leaders are following his lead. They don’t bother to pretend that they are following rules anymore, or make arguments based on a common understanding of what the Constitution requires."

Bear in mind also the colossal hypocrisy of these imps.  As former GOP strategist Kurt Bardella observed on AM Joy  (Saturday) the Reeptards would already have  impeached a President Hillary Clinton by now-  using documents from their bogus Benghazi investigation-  one that sucked up millions of dollars more than the Dem impeachment inquiry.  To try to conceal or dilute that brazen hypocrisy they will now try to weaponize the impeachment for Trump's campaign and create 'blowback' on the Dems.  This possibility is echoed in one UK Guardian analysis, i.e.:

"Impeachment naturally gives satisfaction to the president’s critics, like seeing a bully get a bloody nose. But it is now far from certain the bullying will stop or that Trump will even suffer for it. As Republicans in the House of Representatives lined up like human shields to defend the indefensible, there was no doubt their Senate colleagues will next month do the same to block his removal from office and acquit him."

And yet the saddest aspect of this whole sorry spectacle may not even be the Reeps'  intransigent rejection of reality, but that so many fellow citizens fail to get it.  They mistakenly believe lawmakers ought to be working on their health care or better jobs, failing to appreciate if Trump is not removed none of that will matter. Trump will be able to do anything he wants to them, or the nation.  That is why, as I wrote in a recent Denver Post letter, it is irrelevant if even only 10 percent of Americans stand for impeachment and 90 percent are opposed.  It is the latter who are wrong, dead wrong, in failing to grasp either the constitutional remedy and process, or the scale of Trump's lawlessness.  As yesterday's  Denver Post editorial laid out the perspective in its concluding paragraphs:

"We cannot imagine that our founders would just shrug their shoulders at such a request (that Trump made to the Ukrainian president, to dig up dirt on the Bidens) made with the full force of the president's official powers.

Nor can we imagine they would look kindly at Trump thumbing his nose at Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution which gives the House the sole power to impeach."

As any sentient person can see, Trump's crimes are all out there, clear and in the open. No amount of Republican obfuscation, distraction or disinformation can change that.

Addendum:  The reptiles and Reepo vermin are, of course, called that for a reason. They never fail to wade into the depths of depravity, as a Denver Reich wing talk radio host did Tuesday night.  Wishing for a "nice school shooting",  to take the spotlight off of impeachment.

Sadly, By Extolling A Treasonous Rebel Rat, John Kelly Shows He Lacks Any Honor

Image may contain: one or more people and text

"Today the racist tribe is once again as paranoid and angry as it was before the Civil War. As they did then, they are cheating and lying constantly, from blatantly suppressing the vote to violating democratic norms and rules to using every lever of institutional machinery to preserve their power, such as their stunning refusal to consider a Supreme Court justice named by a president of the opposing party.

As we've seen, this isn't new. But it's as dangerous as it's ever been. The country isn't going to physically break in two this time, and the issues around racism and modernism are more diffuse. It's a different nation and a different world. But the stakes are actually much higher."   - Heather Digby Parton in salon.com 'John Kelly's Ignorance and the Dark Legacy of the Civil War'.
I already, in a previous post,  exposed John Kelly as the Trump bitch he really is, i.e.

http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2017/10/kelly-proves-hes-trumps-bitch-like.html

This was  after his performance a  couple of weeks ago,  falsely making claims about black congresswoman Frederica Wilson. This SOB has now revealed his true disgusting colors, not only as Dotard's little bitch in refusing to apologize for his calumny,  but now going on the air for the rightwing freak Laura Ingraham to babble bunkum on the cause of the Civil War.

For those who missed it Kelly was the guest for the premiere of Laura Ingraham’s new show on the Fox (as in "FAUX") News Channel on Monday night.  It was the perfect opportunity for this racist asshole to once more demagogue his  gibberish on national TV (albeit TV for the Gooprs and fake news addicts).

Kelly was asked about the decision of a church in Alexandria, Va., to remove plaques honoring George Washington and Robert E. Lee. Recall that earlier, I noted the mayor of New Orleans had properly removed the statue of Robert E. Lee from Lee Circle there, e.g.
Image result for Lee statue taken down in NEW. Orleans - imagesImage result for Lee statue taken down in NEW. Orleans - images

I  already expressed my objection to the Johnny Reb nonsense spouted by a woman (Diana Belles) writing in our local Colorado Springs Independent.  Belles defended Southern monuments, stating the attacks on the Rebel flag and monuments were  “dragging Confederates through a cesspool of misinformation”,    I wrote a reply which was published a week later;  That reply can be read at this link:

https://www.csindy.com/coloradosprings/reader-what-civil-war-history-did-you-study/Content?oid=5869315

I have not changed from that viewpoint one iota, and view the display of both Confederate flag and Nazi swastika as wrong headed attributions to defeated tyrannies and evil systems. And believe me, I don't use the word "evil" loosely.  In this case I mean  the subjugation  of large populations - viewed as "inferior"  by an entrenched and illegitimate government -  and their systematic degradation and elimination.  This was done via chattel slavery in the Confederacy and via concentration camps and gas chambers in Nazi Germany.
.
The Confederate battle flag, like the Nazi swastika, is the emblem of hateful aggressive losers. After the Civil War, given the South lost, all its paraphernalia including flags and monuments ought to have been  interred at landfills or retired  to museums (like swastikas in Germany). Instead they had found their way to rise above state capitols, such as in South Carolina and Mississippi, or in church yards like in Alexandria, VA.

As of August 2016, there were  1,503 public commemorations of the Confederacy, even excluding the battlefields and cemeteries: 718 monuments and statutes still stood, and 109 public schools, 80 counties and cities, and 10 U.S. military bases bore the names of Lee, Jefferson Davis, and other Confederate icons, according to a tally by the Southern Poverty Law Center

Anyway,  the clueless dolt Kelly responded to Ingraham's query thusly:

"I would tell you that Robert E. Lee was an honorable man.  He was a man that gave up his country to fight for his state, which 150 years ago was more important than country. It was always loyalty to state first back in those days. Now it’s different today. But the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War, and men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had them make their stand.”

First, this bullshit shows how little Kelly knows about Lee, the  "honorable man",  who once demanded a slave be properly flogged for impudence to the slave owner. This included having brine poured into the open wounds  afterward.   What few may know is that Lee actually - by his leading the rebellion - had more Americans killed than Hitler did in WWII. While earlier I'd only suspected Kelly was a racist, Johnny Reb sympathizer and slime ball (by his dismissive, hateful swill about Ms. Wilson),  this latest spiel  on FOX proves it - at least to me.

Second, rather than seeing him as Trump's "minder", I now see him as perfectly matched to the Swine-in -chief. "Two peas in a pod", if you will, or better, two hogs in a pig pen.  Maybe the filth of the bigger swine rubbed off on the lesser one.  For all intents, Kelly has now effectively become Dotard's doppelganger.

Third, one is prompted to recommend this pompous  idiot go back to school to take some real Civil War history classes, such as I recommended to Ms. Belles.

According to History professor Stephanie McCurry, based at Columbia University and author of “Confederate Reckoning: Politics and Power in the Civil War South.”

“It’s the Jim Crow version of the causes of the Civil War. I mean, it tracks all of the major talking points of this pro-Confederate view of the Civil War.”

In other words, Kelly is just another unreconstructed Johnny Reb. No better than the other defenders of this loathsome historical pustule - including  Nevada rancher and scofflaw Cliven Bundy. Recall Bundy's infamous words back in April,  2014:

"I wanna tell yuh one more thing I know about the Nigras! Weren't they better off as slaves, pickin'  cotton  and havin' a family life  and doin' things or are they better off under government subsidies ? They didn't get no more freedom they got less freedom"
Incredibly, Kelly went even farther with his comments, actually appearing to defend treason which is what Southern secession really was. Kelly made several specious points. 1) That Lee was honorable. 2) That fighting for state  (i.e. the secessionist traitors) was more important than fighting for country. 3) That a lack of compromise led to the war and 4)  That good people on both sides were fighting for conscientious reasons.

Bunkum item (4) ought to ring a loud bell, echoing Trump's claim back in August - after the Charlottsville mayhem  - that there were "fine people on both sides":  the Nazi side carrying their torches and swastikas, and the anti-Nazi protesters' side.
Both McCurry and David Blight, a history professor at Yale University and author of “Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory,” broadly rejected all of Kelly's codswallop.

According to Prof. Blight:

"This is profound ignorance, that’s what one has to say first, at least of pretty basic things about the American historical narrative,” Blight said. “I mean, it’s one thing to hear it from Trump, who, let’s be honest, just really doesn’t know any history and has demonstrated it over and over and over. But General Kelly has a long history in the American military.”

SO what's Kelly's excuse? Is there any way one can be generous in one's interpretation of Kelly's latest gig?  I see only two ways: 1) Kelly has Alzheimer's disease  or some other variant  of dementia. Then his fractious performances - both after his ugly remarks on Ms. Wilson and now his defense of the indefensible -   are manifest symptoms.

Or (2) : Trump insisted he go on and adhere to a specific script under some serious threat. We don't know what that threat might be.

Failing those options, one is left only to conclude that: a) Kelly  a know nothing like Trump, especially on American history, or b) his proximity to Trump has contaminated him right down to his essence.   There's very little else one can conclude because there aren't enough real excuses for a former military guy to know so damned little!

For example, the idea that compromise might have been possible was rejected out of hand by both McCurry and Blight.  As Blight facetiously asked :

“It was not about slavery, it was about honorable men fighting for honorable causes?”

Then answering his question in a WaPo interview:

“Well, what was the cause? . . . In 1861, they were very clear on what the causes of the war were. The reason there was no compromise possible was that people in the country could not agree over the wisdom of the continued and expanding enslavement of millions of African Americans.”

Also, Kelly appears to forget his American History that there were actually  a number of compromises on slavery that led up to the Civil War, from the drafting of the Constitution to the addition of new states to the Union.   It is particularly disturbing he couldn't reference the Crittenden Compromise,  e.g.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crittenden_Compromise

Prof. Blight explained:

“Any serious person who knows anything about this can look at the late 1850s and then the secession crisis and know that they tried all kinds of compromise measures during the secession winter, and nothing worked. Nothing was viable.”

One thing we can all conclude from this latest deplorable episode is that Kelly isn't fit to stand watch over a dog kennel, far less mind President Dotard.  He also lacks any sense of honor as well as intelligence.

If Kelly is all we have standing between us and Trump grabbing the nuclear football, then God (or the Force) help us all.

Let's Hope For An Internecine GOP 'War' !

Thanks to indolent, stupid American voters - namely in the Democratic ranks - the GOP stands to put a world of hurt on millions of the most vulnerable citizens, including kids, seniors, and workers. All this because critical demographics - including the young voters and Hispanics - didn't turn out for the 2014 midterms to the same level they did for the 2012 general election.

All of this was anticipated by the GOP obstuctionists, of course, acknowledging  progressives' midterm lethargy as well as the general dumbing down of the populace. Recall as recently as 2010, the rodent -faced Mitch McConnell vowed that the GOP Senate’s primary responsibility was to make Barack Obama a one term president   This strategy failed but as  Paul Waldman put it in this insightful piece in the American Prospect:

“He devised and implemented the strategy of total obstruction in the first six years of the Obama presidency not because he couldn’t stand the president, but because he thought (correctly) that it would be the strategy most likely to get Republicans what they wanted.”

And, of course, the GOP did get what it wanted thanks to up to 8 percent of the Demo general election voters staying at home. What? Were they stoned? Were they incapacitated? Did they not know that the gates of hell would be unleashed electorally on the majority?

Some of this  - of which most aren't aware - includes:

- Further cuts to food stamps, to increase defense spending, leaving even more poor kids hungry at night (already 15 million since the December, 2013 sequester cuts)

- Putting back on the table cuts to Social Security, mainly via the chained CPI but also more severe and general cuts (up to twenty percent) which I recently was warned about in a letter from the National Committee to Protect Social Security & Medicare.  Excerpt:

"Republicans made a change to their proposed rules package that makes it more difficult to pass legislation to protect millions of current Social Security beneficiaries (disabled workers and their families) from a potential 20 percent cut in their benefits in 2016.

Your National Committee was on Capitol Hill all day long fighting to stop this dangerous last-minute amendment from passing. And we sent a letter to every member of Congress, which you can read here, urging them to vote it down."

- Efforts to annihilate Medicare and replace it with a "premium support" system, i.e. seniors would get a fixed voucher each year to try to get the health care they need - described by one wonk thusly:

"Beginning in 2022, it would create a marketplace in which seniors have a fixed amount of money to buy health insurance. The amount of 'support' would match the price of the insurance premium."

The truth is eighty percent of seniors would find themselves further behind the eight ball on account of rising medical costs -especially for cancer treatments, hip replacement surgery etc.- while the vouchers would be barely $10, 000 a year, if that. This means they'd have to cough up much more out of pocket.

- Gutting a main component of Obamacare by eliminating the 30 hrs. a week of work entitlement to access, and replacing it with 40 hrs. But all that would happen if this was done is the corporatocratic rats would ensure most workers don't make the 40 hr./week cut and leave it at 39 hrs. or less.

- Passing the Keystone XL pipeline which would be the fastest way to hurl us all into the climate shitcan given the degraded quality of tar sands oil - in terms of CO2 injection into the atmosphere, but also the risk of spills across the length of it especially near the Ogallala aquifer.

At least Obama has vowed to veto the last, and he will certainly veto many others as well, particularly if the Dem spines collapse in the Senate - as I predict they will. The Dems when in opposition never display cojones, they act more like terrified little wimps afraid to act the least bit obstructionist. See also:

http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2014/11/harry-reid-turns-out-to-be-another-punk.html

So, in fact, we may have to rely not only on Obama vetoes but splits in the GOP itself - as revealed earlier this week when the Teepees threatened Johnno Boehner's Speaker hegemony in the House.

As salon.com columnist Heather Digby Parton put it ('The GOP's Coming Horror Show'):

"The real battle of the budget may just be between the House and the Senate Republicans with Democrats reduced to popping popcorn and settling in like they’re watching a live version of “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”

But let' not forget the GOP House also has a faction that is leery of Boehner's leadership and this bunch of renegades (mostly Tea Partyers) attempted to oust him from his Speaker role on the first day. They failed, but their intentions and agenda were clear: they want the party to go all out in its anti-Obama crusade and not give an inch.

Maybe, if we're lucky, the GOP with its fighting factions - extremists vs. not so extremists- will 'blow itself up' and most of their bills won't even reach the sign off stage.

One can always hope!
