Democratic former congressman Steve Israel of New York, who served from 2001 to 2017 has described tonight’s upcoming staged Kremlin circus as nothing more than Trump television spectacle. For him, this is just the highest level of television visibility, and it will be geared as a spectacle and not as a substantive view of any rational vision. That's because Trump has none: he's an empty vessel into which Putin pours his talking points.
It will
also be prepped to have enough Putin- Russian talking points to have the only
loyal opposition – the Dems – seeing red. According to the WaPo it could pave
the way for an “explosive event.”
In January’s
inaugural address, the orange Russian asset opined that he had survived an
assassination attempt because “I was saved by God to make America great again.”
Many in the media swallowed this garbage instead of soberly noting it was a
lucky twist of his fat head that spared him.
Now – according to the gushing jokers at the Post “Trump is likely to speak in vivid terms, potentially inflaming Democrats even more”.
Still unable to process the man is not normal, but rather a deranged Kremlin puppet who will say anything to try to grab center stage and cheer his MAGA zombies on. Speak in "vivid" terms? Well, vivid stupidity and gaslighting for sure.
I have no intention to subject myself to over an hour of bluster, lies and propaganda, so call me tuned out. I’d rather have a root canal than watch two minutes of this infernal Russian creation decked out like an American president spieling outrageous garbage.
According to the Post some
lawmakers say they will boycott the address, while others plan to attend and
show their displeasure. Given the drama of Trump’s first weeks in office,
the event could be at least as contentious as any of the 100 previous occasions when presidents
have visited the Capitol to provide their
inevitably glowing descriptions of the country’s condition.
My advice to the lawmakers is boycott the coming mess and save your
powder for another day. As Sen. Chris Murphy (Connecticut), told CNN last night:
“I have little interest in Trump’s presentation and planned to boycott it. I think that State of the Union speech is going to be a farce. I think it’s going to be a MAGA pep rally, not a serious talk to the nation. … And I’m just not going to be a part of that.”
Good thinking, Chris!

Tonight is Trump‘s first State of the Union speech of his second term. Observers all around the world are wondering how deferential he will be toward Putin.
Already, there are ominous signs that he and Musk intend to bring America to its knees on behalf of the Russian dictator and to destroy our defenses against a possible Russian attack, should Trump lose Putin’s love or the next American president directly challenge Russia.
Yesterday I wrote:
Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered our federal operations to detect and stop Vladimir Putin‘s infiltration of American cyber security — from our nuclear facilities and dams to our news and social media spaces — to cease. As Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer noted yesterday afternoon:
“Donald Trump is so desperate to earn the affection of a thug like Vladimir Putin he appears to be giving him a free pass as Russia continues to launch cyber operations and ransomware attacks against critical American infrastructure, threatening our economic and national security. It is a critical strategic mistake for Donald Trump to unilaterally disarm against Putin.“

Elon Musk just called for the United States to withdraw from NATO, leaving Europe to Putin’s tender mercies.
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered our federal operations to detect and stop Vladimir Putin‘s infiltration of American cyber security — from our nuclear facilities and dams to our news and social media spaces — to cease.
This sounds like a dangerously familiar — and ancient— story.

An Appalling Display
Imagine that during World War II, at the height of Nazi Germany’s blitz of Britain, President Roosevelt invited PM Winston Churchill to Washington and humiliated him with derisive comments about Britain’s looming defeat and failure to thank the President for US support. Unthinkable, of course, but that’s exactly what happened when Ukraine’s President Volodymir Zelensky visited Washington and had to endure Donald Trump’s appalling interrogation.
Today’s headlines speak of a “collision” and a “blowup” between the two leaders, but it was far more than that. It marked an historic American retreat from Europe and from international responsibility.
But before that drama played out, there were visits to Washington by the French and British leaders. Neither received any indication that the US might backstop a NATO presence in Ukraine should Ukraine and Russia reach agreement to end their war.

President Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters in the U.S. are cheering his Oval Office ambush of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, declaring they are “proud” of Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
But across the globe, world leaders swiftly reaffirmed their support for President Zelenskyy, his country, and Ukraine’s fight to defend its sovereignty and democracy against Russia’s illegal invasion—making clear their allegiance is with him and his country, effectively icing out Donald Trump and the U.S.
Meanwhile, at home, some Americans—perhaps already weary just weeks into Trump’s presidency—are voicing their belief that the President of the United States is behaving like, and may very well be, a witting or unwitting “Russian asset.”
The Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum, who has written numerous books on the Soviet Union and authoritarianism, framed Friday’s events for MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace:
“I think all of Ukraine’s allies, and all of not just Europeans who have a border with Russia or who are near Russia, but Europeans who understand that Russia has coordinated sabotage attacks across the continent engages in sometimes daily cyber attacks on different kinds of institutions, infrastructure all over Europe, whose country, whose propagandists constantly threaten Europe and constantly repeat threats to bomb or even nuke European cities, I think everybody felt today a kind of chill understanding that this was a very different United States.”
‘RUSSIAN ASSET’?
Several notable Americans made public their thoughts after Friday’s Oval Office attack that the President of the United States might, knowingly or not, be a “Russian asset.”
Noted political scientist, The Atlantic’s Dr. Norman Ornstein, concluded, “Not that we had a bunch doubt before, but Donald Trump is a Russian asset.” He later wrote, “This is one of the saddest days for America in my lifetime.”
Former Tea Party Republican congressman turned podcaster and political commentator, Joe Walsh, wrote: “I said two weeks ago on @CNN that Donald Trump is a Russian asset. I stand by that. The entire world should now know that this is the scary truth.”
Political commentator and SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah added, “We officially have a Russian asset in the White House in Trump. Period.”
Cheri Jacobus, the political strategist, pundit, and frequent cable news guest, wrote: “Trump is a war criminal. A traitor. A Russian asset since the 1980’s. There is now no doubt.”
