Introducing Basic Electrodynamics & EM Theory (3)

 THE HALL EFFECT

Before getting into Hall current electrodynamics, we begin with some unit vector basics. Along each axes one can define unit vectors: x^, y^ and z^. Then the respective multiplications (by vector directions) yield: x^*y^ = z^, and y^*z^ = x^ and x^*z^ = y^. These rules will always apply for a right handed coordinate system.

Thus, a vector cross product given by: A X B, must always have the directions attached by means of vectors, e.g.:

A(x^) x B(y^) = (A X B) (z^) = C(z^)

Now, as depicted in the accompanying diagram below, consider a slab of conducting material through which a current I flows as shown (in direction x^) so that I = I(x^).

We consider in turn the effect on positive and negative charge carriers, after having attached the coordinate system x, y, z and thence we specify (in addition to the current I(x^):

The magnetic induction: B = B(y^)

The velocity: v = v(-x^)

(Since the velocity of actual charges is opposite to the direction of conventional current flow)

The magnetic force (F = qvB) acting on a unit (+) charge deflects it toward the upper face, resulting in the accumulation of + charges there, and negative (-) charges on the bottom face.

Expressing the force with appropriate directions:

F(z^) = q v(-x^) x B(y^)

The opposite accumulation of charge (+ to bottom, - to top) gives rise to an electrical force that counteracts the magnetic. Eventually equilibrium occurs when:

Eq = qvB

At this point:

E = VH  t

Where VH  is the Hall potential difference.

Then:

(VH / t) q = qvB

Or, by directions:

qE(-z^) = q vB(z^)

or VH = Bvt

The drift velocity can be found from the basic definition of the current:

I = ne v A

Where A is the area A = Lw (length x width of box)

n = number density of charges (per cubic meter)

e = unit of electronic charge = 1.6 x 10-19  C

Solving for v:

V = I / neLw

Therefore, the Hall potential difference is:

VH = B{I/neLw} t = BI/ new

Example Problem:

If the magnetic induction B = 1.0 T, and a rectangular slab of material (such as shown) is for copper, with n =
10 29 /m3, find the Hall emf if I = 10A, and the width of the slab is 0.001 m.

Solution:

VH = BI/ new

= (1.0T) (10 A)/ {1029 /m3)(1.6 x 10-19 C) (0.001m)}

VH = 0.6 mV

Suggested Problems:

1) The diagram below shows a slab of silver with dimensions: z1 = 2 cm, y1 = 1mm, carrying 200 A of current in the +x^ direction. The uniform B-field has a magnitude of 1.5 T. If there are 7.4 x 1028 free electrons per cubic meter.

Find:

a)The electron drift velocity

b)The magnitude and direction of the E-field due to the Hall Effect

c)The magnitude of the Hall EMF.

Yale Religious Studies Prof Shows That Accounts Of Jesus' Trial (and Pontius Pilate) Are Mythical

                                   Yale Religious Studies Professor Dale B. Martin

Holy Week is arguably the most important period in the Christian calendar, but it is mind boggling that so few faith adherents have even heard of  scriptural exegesis  or hermeneutics. Recall that I had written two earlier posts on the basis of the latter, e.g.

And :

These were taken from my notes (1964-65) at  Loyola University (New Orleans), where biblical exegesis was taught as a rigorous discipline as part of Theology 220, centered on biblical hermeneutics. We used the actual original forms of the texts in their original languages and the meanings associated with each.

For those who wish to take a deep dive into New Testament hermeneutics there is the easily accessible online course, Introduction to New Testament History and Literature by Prof. Dale B. Martin of Yale University. (Roughly on a par with my Theology 220) The compilation of course sessions, all on video, can be accessed via this link:

Introduction to the New Testament History and Literature

And the one I recommend most for those short on time is No.13, dealing with the "Historical Jesus" (link below):

The Historical Jesus

Prof. Martin's accompanying textbook, New Testament History and Literature, is also an essential accompaniment and one which I will refer to in this post - focusing on the issue of Jesus' trial and Pontius Pilate.  For most Christians the trial, the words and actions of Pontius Pilate, and then the crucifixion of Christ are all established events not to be doubted.  But for Prof. Martin these are what he refers to (pp. 182-83) as "constructions of a historiographical account." In other words when historians say they are "reconstructing" some historical account of x, y or z event, they are actually "constructing a historiographical account of something that happened in the past."

Thus any  claimed "reconstruction of the Jesus of the past is really a construction produced by that historian."

Take the case of the claimed trial of Jesus and appearance before Pontius Pilate. According to Prof, Martin (p. 181)  it is more than probable that there never was a trial of Jesus at all. As he puts it, "the Romans did not need to try a troublesome Jewish peasant in order to kill him."   In other words the entire trial tableaux was manufactured, or constructed by later copyists, scriptural writers.

As Prof. Martin relates (ibid.), the Romans stoned or crucified troublesome, nameless lower class people all the time.  In the case of Jesus, who "had caused a disturbance in the Temple and made radical pronouncements"  the Romans would have "simply taken him by force and crucified him the next day" with a few other nameless  others.  Adding:

"There was no need for any trial much less two or more different 'courts'.  It would have been more trouble than a Roman governor needed for the desired result."

"Moreover even if there were any kind of trial there is no way any information about it would have been transmitted to his disciples so they could then pass the stories along so they could be recorded in the gospels."

Further there is no way any lower class peasant follower - say Peter- could have gained access to any actual hearings. Indeed, more than 30 years separated the events at the time from the first recorded scriptures associated with the particular gospels.  The end effect is that all the related accounts, irrespective of which quadriform gospel - were confections, or creations. Myths if you will  or "fiction" short stories in today's parlance.  Or in the words of Prof. Martin (p. 184):

 "Any narrative of any trial is purely the product of  later Christian imagination which thought that since Jesus was the most important man in history there must have been significant trials before his execution."

Prof. Martin is careful on the next page, however, to emphasize that this "historical Jesus" is in no way dependent on the Christian faith. So one can still believe and have faith in Jesus but ignore the elaborate biblical stories and myths erected around him. One can also choose to believe these stories, but ought to know or realize there is no exegetical (or historical) support for them.

All of which conforms with the conclusion of Catholic Scriptural historian, the Rev. Thomas Bokenkotter, who wrote in his monograph (A Concise History of the Catholic Church), p. 17:

"The Gospels were not meant to be a historical or biographical account of Jesus. They were written to convert unbelievers to faith in Jesus as the Messiah, or God.”

I have also noted  (in my March 30, 2018 post) the sort of contradictions- to do with the stone being rolled from sepluchre-  in 3 different NT (Matthew 28.2, Mark, Luke) accounts that led to the conclusion they are fictional.

One central problem for the conventional Christian believer inevitably arises in all these exegetical discussions:  how to reconcile his/her faith in a 'God-Man/Savior' Jesus, with the actual historical person. Who was more a radical, "liberal" freedom-fighter against the Roman state.

John Dominic Crossan in his remarkable text:The Historical Jesus: The Life of a Mediterranean Jewish Peasant, offers a hint ('Epilogue', p. 423):

"Is an understanding of the historical Jesus of any permanent relevance to Christianity itself? I propose that at the heart of any Christianity there is always, covertly or overtly, a dialectic between a historically read Jesus and a theologically read Christ. Christiany is always, in other words, a Jesus/Christ/ianity."

and finally (ibid.)

"This book challenges the reader on the level of formal method, material investment, and historical interpretation. It presumes there will always be divergent historical Jesuses, that there will always be divergent Christs built upon them, but above all, it argues that the structure of a Christianity will always be: *this is how we see Jesus as Christ now*."

Words to bear in mind today, and over this weekend.

Newsflash: It Ain't A 'Slam Dunk'! If Trump Escapes Again How DO We Finally Bring Him Down?

                      Anti-Trump protestor in NYC during Trump's arraignment

“Many who detest Trump, I suspect, have lost faith in the ability of the legal system to hold him to account.” – Michelle Goldberg, April 5 column, NY Times

"I know it can't be a good look when a democracy indicts a former president who received 73 million votes in 2020. On the other hand if you believe no one should be above the law then maybe this is a good thing for our democracy to finally confront.  Other democracies have managed it."- Mike Littwin, Colorado Sun, today, p. 16

"The indictment of Donald J Trump has not driven a wooden stake through his heart. He has risen, omnipresent and ominous again, overwhelming his rivals, their voices joined into his choir, like the singing January 6 prisoners, proclaiming the wickedness of his prosecution." -  Sidney Blumenthal, in The Guardian, April 4 column

Even as Trump bellowed threats against Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan and his family - according to the WaPo "dozens" -  one is led to ponder a question from many liberal legal pundits: How do we put an end to Donald J. Trump, say if he escapes accountability again?

How especially do we ensure he never again gets near the levers of state power? From his rancorous toxic political influence and ongoing destruction of constitutional norms and our democratic Republic - to his current barrage of threats against DA Alvin Bragg and Judge Merchan.  I have a few ideas, the foremost of which was first mentioned on Ari Berman's MSNBC show last Friday: Let Judge Merchan slap a gag order on his fat ass - so no more vile rhetoric- and if he violates it he gets a contempt of court charge and 8 months in Rikers Island to wait for his trial onset.  Personally, I'd rather see the SOB hung right now, but then that's just channeling my Revolutionary War ancestors, Jacob and Conrad  Brumbaugh.

But seriously, the sad fact is that this case and pressing the charges to completion is not a "slam dunk".  On CBS yesterday morning, NYC legal eagle Rikki Kleiman made clear she had not yet seen any statutes tied to any of the charges. In other words, we have no idea - zero - what specific crimes were committed.  (Or whether a statutes of limitations filing would negate them). She was also asked if she'd rather be a defense attorney for a Trump trial, or a prosecutor. She put on an impish grin and said "Defense attorney!"

Also a cause for concern, though she quicky insisted there is no political bias, only that she prides herself as a "scrapper".

But seriously, on further examination it looks like the cases against traitor Trump isn't going to be a slam dunk at all. And all those traumatized by his freak election in 2016 (thanks to Russkie help and too many willing to give him a chance) are also on edge now, expecting this maggot to slide through the gears of the wheels of justice once more.

Former Bill Clinton senior advisor Sidney Blumenthal put it most darkly in his Guardian column 2 days ago:

"The death watch of Trump is a cyclical phenomenon. After each of his storms, the pundits, talking heads and party strategists on all sides emerge from their cellars, survey the latest wreckage and check the scientific measurements of the polls to give the “all clear” sign that the cyclone had passed. When Trump lost to Joe Biden in 2020, thoughtful analysts assured that Trump’s time was gone, he would fade away and his comeback in 2024 was an impossibility, just “not going to happen”. Everyone should “relax”. Then came January 6. When Trump’s endorsed candidates in the 2022 midterm elections, a gaggle of election deniers and conspiracy mongers, were ignominiously rejected, last rites were pronounced. Trump was dead again."

But he wasn't dead, given:

 "The implacability of Trump’s political base’s attachment was discounted."

Adding:

"The wishful thinking that Trump would magically disappear, however, ignored the omens of Liz Cheney’s purging, the victories of his candidates in the midterm Republican primaries over blanched “normies”, and the corrupt bargain that McCarthy was forced to make to secure his speakership."

Add to all the above the legal complexities and the high bar that DA Alvin Bragg must hurdle. Even then most legal eagles insist that if convicted Trump will spend no jail time and at most, "home detention" - meaning confined to Mar-a-Lago.

 According to the indictment, the business record falsifications were done “with intent to defraud and intent to commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof.” Though no other crime is charged, the statement of facts accompanying the indictment accuses Trump of violating election laws. It’s the connection to another crime that turns falsifying business records from a misdemeanor into a felony.  But most legal gurus believe it will be hardest to prove.

According to David Cohen, a long time defense attorney from New York qoted in yesterday's LA Times:

"Whatever secondary crime Bragg is relying on to charge the counts as felonies instead of misdemeanors is very, very amorphous, and it’s going to be interesting to see how they prove it,”

Daniel Farber, a professor at the UC Berkeley Law School who studies presidential power, said Bragg “paints a compelling picture of a conspiracy to falsify business records in order to suppress negative information during the presidential campaign and a jury might well find that a compelling story.”

But:  "we still don’t know what the prosecutor has in mind when it comes to elevating the case to a felony."

This gets back to Ms. Klieman's complaint that there are no specific statutes tied to the charges which emerged by way of a "talking indictment."

Observers from across the political spectrum, according to a WSJ piece,  have been skeptical of the legal theory that underlies Bragg’s case. As The New York Times reported in March,

“Combining the criminal charge with a violation of state election law would be a novel legal theory for any criminal case, let alone one against the former president, raising the possibility that a judge or appellate court could throw it out or reduce the felony charge to a misdemeanor.”

The WSJ piece also noted that for such a felony specific intent must be proven, and we know intent is always hard to show especially in white paper crimes. Recall during the 'Varsity Blues' college cheating scandal:

Varsity Blues scandal - Wikipedia

One NYC lawyer actually said he relished defending one or more of the culprits given how difficult our legal system makes it to prove intent.

Trump, in other words, may still wriggle out of this predicament.  So how to take him down?   I suspect the investigations of special prosecutor Jack Smith may afford the best chances, to do with the missing top secret documents, and the Jan. 6 insurrection.  In the case of the documents Trump stole, the spinners at the WSJ (e.g. Gerard Baker) are already trying to argue that Mr. Smith wouldn't dare bring an indictment given Joe Biden also had missing documents.

But Baker misses the difference, big time. In the case of Trump, he was asked repeatedly by the National Archives to transmit the missing documents back to them, for months and months and months.  And even then, what was transmitted back was not complete. Trump was subpoenaed to get the rest of the classified information and what was provided even then was not complete. Then there was a search warrant issued after evidence of potential obstruction of the investigation and even after that search warrant additional documents had been found.  None of this obstruction happened with Biden.

It will be interesting to see how things play out over the coming months, and if Trump really gets his comeuppance or escapes his just desserts once more.  But as Bill Maher said last year, there is always the chance this fat swine could keel over from a heart attack - given the fats and processed crap he eats.

In any case, I am not holding my breath - only believing if all else fails, and Trump escapes all legal consequences - then grabs the GOP nomination, Biden will be there to throttle his ass again.

Yes, Marjorie Taylor -Greene, Trump was indeed  "joining some of the most incredibly depraved people in history in being arrested" -  including Nazi S.S. commandant Rudolph Hess (strangled to death in Spandau prison after Nuremberg trial), and Jeffrey Dahmer-- Milwaukee serial killer cannibal, murdered in prison after his incarceration.

Excerpt:

To the surprise of absolutely no one, from the moment Donald Trump was indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg — really, long before that moment — Republican politicians were declaring Trump is innocent. The emptiness of the posturing was built in. It's not just that Republicans don't believe their talking points — no one does.

Trump's selling point to the GOP base has long been his criminality. The MAGA base was compelled by the idea that only a true villain could get them what they want because he would flout all rules and laws in his pursuit of their authoritarian goals. So to claim Trump is "innocent" is not to deny that he committed a crime, so much as it is to assert that he should be above the law.

After a violent insurrection, two impeachments, countless other scandals, and the time he suggested bleach injections to treat COVID-19, it's hard to forget sometimes that the first Donald Trump crime that galvanized his opposition was sexual assault.

Shortly before the 2016 election, a recording was released of Trump on a hot mic before a 2005 "Access Hollywood" taping, bragging that he likes to force himself on women. "Grab 'em by the pussy," he infamously recommended. "When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything."

Over two dozen women swiftly came forward to confirm that this is Trump's M.O. So his 2016 election was a shock to millions of Americans; an ugly reminder that this is still a society that mostly looks the other way when men assault and abuse women. In turn, the first protest against Trump — likely the largest protest in American history! — was the Women's March on January 21, 2017. The rage continued to grow, exploding after the Harvey Weinstein revelations, into a mass outpouring of fury over sexual abuse called the #MeToo movement.

Introducing Basic Electrodynamics & EM Theory (2)

 1. Energy Carried by E-M Waves:

The energy carried by an electromagnetic (E-M) wave with field intensities E, B is given by the Poynting vector, S:

S = 1/mo  [E X B]

where mo denotes the magnetic permeability, mo = 4 Ï€ x 10-7  H/m

Physically, the Poynting vector is the rate at which energy flows through a unit surface perpendicular to the flow. We already saw it, at least those who worked Problem (2) did, from the previous installment. This was given as: P = E y  H z / c  =   1300 Wm-2 .

Recall now, for any two vectors A, B

A X B = A B sin Θ

where Θ is the angle between them. If then A is perpendicular to B, then:

sin Θ = sin (90) = 1 so that:

A B sin Θ = AB

By the same token, taking the vectors E, B perpendicular to each other, we find:

S = EB / mo

which has units of Wm-2

Now, recall from earlier, E / B = c, so:

B = E /c

Then: S = EB / mo  = (E/c) E/ mo  =   E 2 / c mo

B =  mo H     or: S = (c /mo) B

The "time average" is also of interest and entails taking the time average of the function:

    cos 2 (kx - wt)

Which yields:

T(av) {cos2 (kx - wt) } = ½

The average value of S (or Intensity) can then be obtained from the maximum vector amplitudes, viz.

I = S(av) = E(max) B(max)/ 2 mo

or:   S(av) = E(max) 2/ 2 mo c  = cB(max)2 / 2 mo

Note that mo c is a very important quantity known as the "impedance of free space", or:

mo c  =    Ã–mo  / Ã– Îµo

mo  c  = 377 ohms

The respective contributions of the two field energies (associated with the electric intensity, E, and magnetic intensity B) can easily be shown to be:

U(E) = ½ Îµo  E2

U(M)= ½ (B2/ mo)

In a given volume the energy is equally shared by the two fields such that:

U(E) = U(M) = ½ Îµo E2 = (B2 /2 mo)

The total, instantaneous energy density of the fields is then:

U = U(E) + U(M) = 2(½ Îµo E2) = Îµo  E2 = B2 /mo

Averaged over one or more cycles  this leads to the total average energy per unit volume:

U(av) = [εo  E2 ]av = ½ Îµo E(max)2 = B(max)2 /2 mo

The intensity of an EM wave is then:

I = S (av) = c U(av) = PA

where P denotes the radiation pressure, or P = S/c (for complete absorption) or P = 2S/c for complete reflection of the wave.

(In direct sunlight, one finds P R = 5 x 10-6  N/m2)

Suggested Problems:

1) An E-M wave in a vacuum has an electric field amplitude E = 220 V/m. Compute the magnitude of the corresponding magnetic field, B.

2) A radio wave transmits 25 W/m 2 of power per unit area. A plane surface of area 2.4 m x 0.7 m is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave. Calculate the radiation pressure    P R  on the surface if it is assumed to be a perfect absorber.

3) An AM radio station broadcast isotropically with an average power of 4 kW. A dipole receiving antenna 65 cm long is located 4 miles from the transmitter. Find the Emf induced by this signal between the ends of the receiving antenna.

4) A community plans to build a solar power conversion station, i.e. to convert solar radiation into electrical power. They require 1 MW (megawatt) of power, and the final system is assumed to have an efficiency of 30% (30% of the solar energy incident on the surface is converted to electrical energy). What must be the effective area, A, of an assumed perfectly absorbing surface to be used in such an installation? Assume a constant solar energy flux incident of 1000 W/m2.

Bawling Trump Cuckold Lindsey Graham Shows Again The Level To Which Reeps Have Sunk

                                             Graham bawling for Trump voters to donate

                        Scarborough doubled over with laughter at the irony of it all

The unsealed indictment against traitor and former president Donald J. Trump on Tuesday set the stage for a tumultuous day and Trump’s overdue arraignment in New York City. Within hours it also led to a whining, weeping performance by Trump's personal cuckold Lindsey Graham on FOX.  A pathetic, overwrought segment that was also featured this morning on 'Morning Jo e.g.

Sen. Graham begs Fox viewers to donate to Donald Trump (msnbc.com)

Crying,

"They’re trying their best to destroy Donald Trump because they fear him at the ballot box. To the conservatives out there, make sure you vote if you got friends, make sure they vote. If you don’t have any friends, go make some friends but you need to help this man, Donald J. Trump. They’re trying to drain him dry. He spent more money on lawyers than most spend on campaign. They’re trying to bleed him dry. Go to Donaldjtrump.com go tonight give the president some money to fight this bullshit."

Well, except for paying for trysts with porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

But even more remarkable was why this fawning fruitcake would expect working class voters to chip in to help a guy - as Joe Scarborough put it - who flies around in a 757, lives in a castle in Florida, and claims to be a billionaire.   Who also would never let his doorman allow any of these prospective contributors into Mar-a-Lago,  except maybe to take out the trash.

The entire 'Morning Joe' panel, including Rev. Al Sharpton, bemoaned that the shameless team of Trump grifters could actually have the never to bleed already struggling working class voters dry - to help a rich scumbag like Donald Trump.  But my question after seeing this spectacle, was when are these working class Trump supporters going to pull their heads out of their asses and grasp they are being exploited by a self-proclaimed billionaire maggot.  And that Trump has no more regard for them than a wayward possum  he might track down at Mar-a-Lago.

Truth be told, Graham's sob story antics were too much for Scarborough, nearly spitting out his coffee as he regaled his side kicks with this one:

“Lindsey is the gift that keeps on giving. He’s Oral Roberts up in his tower saying, ‘Give me $3 million or the Lord’s going to take me home.’”

Adding:

“I’ve known Lindsey a long time. I remember somebody saying: ‘You know, I like Lindsey. But I wouldn’t let him guard the Pentagon. Because he switches sides so quickly, you never know what side he’s going to be on."

Referencing Graham's then posture in the wake of the January 6th, 2021 assault on the Capitol when he took the stage and stated "I'm done! I'm outta here!" - with Trump.  Only to go back some days later licking his backside after being attacked in an airport for not supporting the orange maggot.

As for the presume donors, mainly from the working class, Scarborough compared them to passengers on an airplane that's just been hijacked, and then "cheering for the hijackers."  Adding: "How many crashes will it take before they wake up?"

Well, probably more than you think given anyone who donates has been mind fucked by a cult. 'Morning Joe' co-host Willie Geist, also let loose with this zinger:

"I believe, I could be wrong, maybe there was something else going on. Allergies? I think he had tears in his eyes when he made that passionate, emotional plea — for money, at the end of the day. And we know Donald Trump so often hustles his supporters for money.”

But it wasn't "allergies", just Lindsey being Lindsey, bawling like a baby over the possibility his master might have to spend time in Rikers before the 2024 election. As for Graham's warning that Trump will win in the trial and "at the ballot box next year" - maybe he never learned last night of the result of the Wisconsin special Supreme Court election, i.e.

Janet Protasiewicz, Backed by Democrats, Wins Crucial Swing Seat on Wisconsin Supreme Court

 That has essentially sealed off any potential Trump win in that battleground state, and the fact 62 percent of independents want to see Trump indicted (as Joe Scarborough pointed out) is another downer for little Lindsey.

For those who believe the 34 charges filed against Trump are merely a big "political shakedown or paper crime nothing burger" think again. As former Watergate prosecutor Nick Ackerman noted on CNN this morning, those are all strong charges supported by at least two witnesses as well as evidence including files, emails, tapes and documents.

Yes, ok, it is possible the dark vision of Sidney Blumenthal (former senior advisor to Bill Clinton), writing in The Guardian:

"Trump’s pandemonium will only have an electoral valence for the foreseeable future in its precincts. His damage to the constitution, the national security of the United States and the rule of law will be extensive, but his most intense and focused political destruction will be circumscribed within the Republican party.

From the report of every new indictment to its reality, Republican radicalization will accelerate. Every concrete count will confirm every conspiracy theory. Every prosecution and trial, staggered over months and into the election year, from New York to Georgia to Washington, will be a shock driving Republicans further to Trump. Every Republican candidate running for every office will be compelled to declare as a matter of faith that Trump is being unjustly persecuted or be themselves branded traitors."

Will somehow materialize, but only if the 14-16% of hard core Trumpers who cling to Trump fail to process the recurring losses - such as in Wisconsin yesterday - and by 11 points.  How many more losses, beatings are they prepared to endure for this orange hued loser before they wake up and smell the coffee?

Then there is the other issue, also raised this morning on Scarborough, of how much rope Trump will be allowed by the judge before his hangs himself with violent rhetoric. (See 2nd link below). I expect - as do many others  - that this POS "free speech" rights won't amount to an ounce of doggie lickspittle once he goes off barking about vengeance and endorsing violent acts to "take back America."  The the Turd will be looking at a contempt citation and gag order, and if he violates it - possible a stay at Rikers Island until his trial.

Private citizen Donald Trump appeared in Manhattan Superior Court Tuesday afternoon, accompanied only by his Secret Service detail and his attorneys, and was arrested, fingerprinted, and arraigned before New York Judge Juan Manuel Merchan on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to his hush money payoff of a porn star in an attempt to protect his 2016 presidential campaign.

And:

Trump is charged, then lashes out
