Trump Bets On 'Law & Order' And Swing Voters To Grab Another 4 Years? Beyond Unthinkable

"The president and his campaign are trying to project the sense of unease and violence taking place under his reign onto a hypothetical Biden administration—including by using footage of protests not in the U.S., but in Barcelona.   Is this the sign of a failing campaign deeply behind in the polls, responsible for an unprecedentedly disastrous response to a pandemic and a tone-deaf answer to protests against police violence? Yes, certainly. But there’s also a deeper subtext: Trump is implicitly promising a no-holds-barred authoritarianism if he wins a second term."   David Atkins, 'Trump's Message Isn't Confused. He's Promising A Dictatorship', Smirkingchimp.com

"The Republican party claims to be a party of law and order. But respect for law and order does not consist of what you can get away with.  The GOP's cynically illegal acts offend our core principles of democracy." -  Letter writer in Denver Post

Amidst the holocaust of erosion in national honor, unity, truth and decency that has been the Trump criminal cabal, it is unthinkable they could snare another 4 years based on "law and order".    And yet a WSJ article from today (p. A4) poses that as a potential reality, e.g.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-bets-on-law-and-order-message-to-sway-swing-voters-11598673661

Excerpt:

"With Mr. Trump trailing the former vice president in national polls, and by a smaller margin in many battleground states, his team is banking that the chaotic images from places such as Kenosha, Wis., and Portland, Ore., won’t just rally their base, but sway undecided voters and suburban voters who had been moving away from Mr. Trump. “The more chaos and anarchy and vandalism and violence reigns, the better it is for the very clear choice on who’s best on public safety and law and order,” Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told Fox News this week."

Law  and order?  Trump?  This is a guy who's paid hush money to porn stars, used his office to get dirt on political opponents (using other nations like the Ukraine) and openly conspired with the Russkies to toss the 2016 election his way, as a recently released Senate intel report confirms.  This is a dirtbag surpassing all historical dirtbags in degeneracy as well as pathology.  Well, okay, maybe with the exception of Adolf Hitler!

Even given that up to 60 percent of swing voters are known as "low information"  (i.e. get most of their news from Facebook or other social media) it is incomprehensible they would bite on the above Kellyanne Conway dreck and vote the most lawless white trash in U.S.  history back into office for another chaotic, hideous and LAWLESS term.

A Biden presidency would usher in "more chaos, anarchy and vandalism"? Hello!  That is happening NOW under Trump!  Hence, as Chris Hayes put it on 'All In' Friday night, "the greatest  political Jedi mind trick ever would be to get enough people to believe the chaos we now see under Trump is somehow connected to Biden - or will be."

To quote Janice: "It would take an especially low I.Q. to believe that!"  Yeah, but no one ever lost money - as H.L. Mencken once wrote - by underestimating the intellect of the American voter.   That includes believing that the social unrest widespread now is somehow the Democrats' fault when pro-Nazi and KKK  prez Trump has fanned the flames of bigotry to the point of encouraging right wing vigilantes to show up at peaceful protests and incite violence - by displaying long guns and even firing them.

Are undecided voters truly dumb enough to put this infernal maggot back into office when they have to know deep down he will only make things worse? Especially the U.S. response to the pandemic - which I already predicted will see more fatalities than the Civil War deaths (675,000) if Trump gets in again. DO the 'swing' voters really want that, as well as the unending chaos, rage tweeting and FOX TV -watching that marks Trump's existing presidency, far less another term?   Can they really abide another ten million jobs lost and a total cratering of the economy into a Depression because Trump and his cabal still haven't dealt with the pandemic?

Clueless Peggy Noonan, vying for the journalist 'weasel of the year' award, scribbled in her latest WSJ column re: the RNC - (Aug. 29-30, p. A13):

"The Republicans confronted what the Democrats at their convention glossed over: rising crime, looting and rioting in city protests."

Conveniently omitting the vicious right wing elements who've descended on the peaceful 1st amendment protected protests, in order to wreak havoc, violence and even deaths - using the peaceful protests as shields.  The Denver Post drew attention to this in a piece (Aug. 28, p. 5A) noting how in the very minutes after the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, right wing sites were summoning  "militias" to  travel to Kenosha  - and use the ruse of "protecting businesses" to arm themselves and shoot protesters.   Well, Kyle Rittenhouse, a self -professed pro-Trump punk heeded the call to arms, traveled to Kenosha from his home in Illinois, and blew away two protesters (one of whom was attempting to stop him after he'd already fired off a few rounds).

This deranged right wing imp actually paraded along an avenue in Kenosha with his long gun in the open with nary a cop trying to stop him - and certainly not firing seven rounds into his back like they did with Blake.

Clearly demonstrating one set of laws for white punk right wingers, another for black men instantly marked as public enemy No.1 for allegedly holding a knife.  How many other KKK'ers, Aryan Nation creeps, Proud Boys, Boogie Bois et al were in Kenosha that night, we have no way of knowing. More than likely, as Janice opined, the others went into hiding or left after the Illinois terrorist (Rittenhouse) fired off his rounds killing two.  But does Peggy Noonan factor in any of this? Hell no.

She also has the nerve to write (ibid):

"Republicans hit on the one shared fear shared equally now by the rich, the poor and the middle: that when you call 911 you have to go to voicemail."

Again displaying a cluelessness unbecoming of a journalist.   If she'd done even limited research she might have been able to trace that defect to the lack of funding for public - state and local- emergency and other services.  That was earmarked in the HEROES act, but Mitch McConnell has sat on it, refusing to let it pass.  The lack of action has caused state and local economies - subject to Covid lockdowns - to crater leaving precious little in the 'pot'.  Yet Noonan mentions none of this.  However, I do give her props for at least writing:

"This country is full of law -abiding people of all colors who are appalled by Donald Trump.  It is political malpractice to push them toward him."

Indeed it is.   So that means when writing your op-ed columns to deliver the details of the truth, not the "post truth" Trumpie version of events!

As I wrote in a previous post, "no good thing can really be said of our nation until and unless the Trump interregnum is totally canceled, extirpated." Why is this? It's because Trump and his cabal have turned the state into a criminal enterprise and which promises to metastasize if he's given a 2nd term, out of voter ignorance, laziness (not voting) or indifference.     A core problem also, which resides mainly in the media, is that for decades Western legal thought had viewed the state as the ultimate guarantor of safety.   This is why Obama and other Dem critics of Trump have echoed the same refrain, "A president has one job to do, to protect the American people".  Well, not just the president but the whole infrastructure with which he governs (including agencies like DOJ, FDA, FBI, CIA, etc.)  as well as congress.

The problem is that the U.S.  media, as well as many legal theorists (and even some historians),  have problems when a developed state - like the U.S. - itself turns into a criminal entity.   This is beyond their imagination despite the fact it already happened when - under Adolf Hitler- the German state  became the agent of criminality as well as the principal perpetrator of crimes, e.g. the slaughter of 6 million Jews and many others.   Most distressing to read was the opening paragraph of a recent review on the book, 'Hitler- Downfall: 1939-1945', in The Denver Post, e.g.

"The impulsiveness and grandiosity, the bullying and vulgarity, were obvious from the beginning.  If anything, they accounted for Adolf Hitler's anti-establishment appeal for Germany's unpopular conservative elites.  Hitler's energy and theatrics made him an enticing partner when they appointed him Chancellor in 1933.  But anyone who thought Hitler and the Nazis would rise to the occasion were summarily purged from the system as an utter impossibility became indomitable reality: The Weimar Republic had become the Third Reich.

It would take another world war, a genocide and millions of dead before the dictatorship finally collapsed in 1945, a full 12 years after Hitler was invited into power.""

A kind of repeat of history is on the verge of happening again with Trump. if U.S. citizens become too besotted by fear to think clearly, or believe this criminal tyrant in waiting really has their interests - and safety - at heart.   Fortunately, the distinction is we have the chance for a do-over of the horrific mistake that brought Trump to power in 2016.  The Germans didn't once Hitler was appointed Chancellor.  But we cannot afford to fuck this up, not again!

The fact of over 180,000 dead from the pandemic ought to convince any thinking - hell sentient person-  that Trump is not their friend.  Or their protector. He is their Alpha predator merely waiting for the chance to rip their throats out.

No (Candy) Treats Tonight For Any Kid Wearing A Trump (Or Other Objectionable) Mask.

Wearing any of these despicable masks will get a kid a Granny Smith green apple, nothing more.

No - there will be NO candy or other sugary goodies for any kid who shows up tonight in a Donald Trump mask.  There will be a "treat" of  sorts (recommended by a good friend):  a nice green, Granny Smith  apple. This is the same approach I used some years ago for kids wearing racist Obama masks, e.g.

but for different reasons. Why a kid would choose such a mask instead of a zombie, dinosaur, Frankenstein  or demon, is beyond me.

But maybe the kid perhaps believes Donald Trump's visage is scarier than any 'Walking Dead" zombie's or a Satan mask.  Or maybe a parent (Trumpie) thought it'd be cool to "scare the libtards" with a Trump mask.  No, not cool, not a good idea.

We already see this depraved beast and man -baby con man defiling the office and the nation at large. An oozing pustule on the U.S. body politic,  contaminating the public airwaves every night on the news. So we don't need to see a facsimile of the orange bastard on a kid's face for Halloween..  As psychiatrist Allen Francis writes in his book, 'Twilight of American Sanity' (p. 35):

"Trump's peevish truculence, previously confined to reality TV shows, temper tantrums at business meetings, and petty feuds....is now destabilizing the world."

So we don't need a Trump mask to also destabilize the kid world of 'Trick or Treat' which ought to be totally apolitical.

Look, this is simple and basically common sense.  There are aesthetic and moral limits to the Halloween costumes that can be tolerated and accepted.  Further, education concerning what is appropriate needs to be an integral part of the event.  This also goes far beyond the meme of "political correctness" which is mocked these days even when it's blatantly over extended into areas pertaining to civility, and plain old common sense.

With that in mind here's a list of Halloween costumes which  merit a Granny Smith green apple, should trick or treaters show up in any of them.  Those appearing with good old fashioned, non-political  costumes (i.e. devil, ape, zombie, etc.) get a bag filled with Reese's Pieces, M&Ms, Snickers, and Nestles Crunch mini (2 oz.) bars.

1) Barack Obama rodeo clown mask: Absolutely not, no way and no how. Besides, it's not even funny but merely a sneaky way to mock our first African -American President. I already explained all of this in a previous blog post, http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2013/08/good-riddance-to-obama-rodeo-clown.html

2) Blackface: This is a more generic extension of (1) given it mocks African Americans in general. People need to know, however that , blackface   was developed in the country's primitive early social era barely five decades after the Civil War as a form of "entertainment". Sadly, despite supposedly having entered a more refined and civilized era, it remains a perennial favorite among both intentional and accidental racists. For those in need of some education before you don it, here is a handy flowchart in case you need further guidance on the subject.

3) Adolf Hitler: Jeebus, this ought to go without saying, no? Especially in the full array, as decked out in the official Führer uniform, i.e.

Bundesarchiv Bild 183-S33882, Adolf Hitler retouched.jpgThis guy, perhaps the greatest monster of the 20th century, needs no advertising from either wayward kids, or parents. It simply ought to be a no-brainer to not even go there!

4) Donald J. Trump,  Second only to Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin (I rank them co-equal 1s) in manifest evil.  So just as I'd not tolerate a Hitler mask I'd not tolerate one bearing the face of the most malignant criminal, con man, traitor and demagogue to ever foul the office of the presidency.

5) 'The Joker' -  This was the get up mass killer James Eagen Holmes' used in his murderous assault on an Aurora, CO theater in July 2012. It's now had a new iteration in a new movie entitled 'Joker' but people here in Colorado are still sensitive to the subtext and message and don't want reminding.  Just as theaters have barred patrons in masks from entry so many of my neighbors don't want to see kids coming  down the cul-de-sac with such masks to their doors.  Fortunately, the costumes-masks were relatively rare - let's hope they remain that way. People here in Colorado don't need to be reminded of that tragedy

6) Anna Rexia: Lol. Get it? A personification of Anorexia, a high fave of teen girls over the years. Sorry to suck the fun out of your pun, chickies, but eating disorders are never sexy, nor are they something to be mocked — same goes for any other illness or disorder.

7) The Human Centipede:  Fortunately, this one is rare - so unlikely to be seen anywhere in my burg - also, this place is far too conservative to remotely tolerate it so I probably don't have to worry about it.  Compared to the real-life horrors cited above, dressing up as the Human Centipede, the horror film machination of humans stitched together from mouth-to-anus, is hardly the most offensive costume. But it’s still  really gross- and isn't one to be rewarded.

Have fun, get the kids outside - as opposed to keeping 'em corralled  merely at house parties or Malls- but know what costumes are appropriate and what are not.  And remember: political correctness has value - despite some of Bill Maher's objections  - in the promotion and service of moral consciousness and the cultivation of a moral compass!

Why I Treat Trump's Base As The "Walking Dead"

Image result for Trump zombies images

As images of the Swine- in -Chief came over the TV screen, bellowing balderdash at a Minnesota rally about Joe Biden, we quickly turned to MSNBC and Chris Hayes' show.  There Harvard law professor Charles Fried correctly depicted Trump as the derelict,  low class buffoon and national embarrassment he really is, noting:

"No president in history has ever talked this way! Can you imagine  Dwight Eisenhower speaking the way this man speaks, or Lincoln, or Teddy Roosevelt? This man is ignorant and fol ,mouthed."

Prof. Fried added:

"This man terrifies me. Because of the way he thinks and what he says about himself. Basically, he says according to Article 2 powers he has the right to do whatever he pleases. He doesn't and any lawyer knows that- except maybe Bill Barr and Mr. Sekulow.   Everybody's who's studied the Constitution - which I teach, knows that."

So why don't the Trumpies?  Why can't these benighted followers see they're being used as pawns by Trump in a bid to get re-elected and trash this country into autocratic oblivion? Instead it seems these brain dead followers  will make up any excuse to kiss his butt and follow him, even into the gates of hell.  In many ways this lot reminds me of the 900 -odd cult followers of Jim Jones who drank his kool aid to show their undying gratitude and adulation. Except they all croaked, e.g.
But more plausibly, after examining the Trump base specimens in detail,  they are more akin to zombies, aka the "walking dead.""

According to a recent piece in the UK  Guardian, referencing Trump's Minneapolis rally:

"Thousands  sat in the stands wearing “Make America Great Again” caps as well as sweaters and T-shirts with slogans such as 'Cops for Trump', 'Fake News', 'Socialism Sucks', 'Space Force' and 'The Trump Strikes Back'.

They cheered as Trump delivered a blunt message: he is going nowhere. In fact, a man who built his political career on the formula that what does not kill him makes him stronger aims to do it again with the impeachment inquiry. In a blistering and blustering 102-minute speech, he made clear he intends to wield impeachment as a cudgel in next year’s presidential election.

The formula only works because of his fiercely partisan support base, which has proved willing to swallow his faults because he shares their animus towards the same foes. Robert Leonard, a radio news director in Iowa, told CNN many conservatives are “standing strong behind President Trump because he is a kind of a golden hammer” that they believe is “needed to break what they see as the liberal stranglehold on America”.

The piece went on to note that all but two with whom the Guardian spoke  dismissed the impeachment inquiry, triggered by Trump pressuring the leader of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, one of his leading rivals, as mere political theatre. Few were troubled by the president’s abrupt decision to withdraw US troops from northern Syria.

Now as we behold the results of traitor Trump's betrayal of the Iraqi Kurds,  with Turkish bombs raining down down on Kurdish prisons releasing ISIS terrorists - while the Kurds are butchered by the same Turks - one wonders what manner of person would support such an arrogant, outlaw scum who dares call himself a leader? It didn't take long for me to suggest to Janice one of those zombies from The Walking Dead.  Proof? Look no further than the idiocy spouted by one of the  resident kool aid drinkers  at the MN rally:

“We think the United States is under attack by the liberals and it’s really changing our culture, pushing us towards socialism. We are so grateful for a president like him putting the American people first. Yes, he has faults, but don’t we all?"

This brain fart -  supposedly from a "retired educational administrator"  -   begs the question: What kind of educational administrator?   Anyone with half a brain, not even at the level of an "educator" or "administrator" would grasp Trump isn't putting the American people first. Not with his trade war, economy wrecking tariffs and bogus tax cuts for which 90 percent of the benefits have gone to the wealthiest and corporations.

And hey, surely putting America (and  the American people) first never meant leaving American soldiers behind. The NY Times reported Monday that removing the American troops from Syria may now require an airlift.   Trump basically, in his rush to withdraw, left soldiers abandoned "trapped between two advancing armies" - as the media informs us.

So doesn't this self-proclaimed "educational administrator"  know any of that? Doesn't he know that Trump  shaking down a foreign head of state to help him dig up dirt on a political opponent is not just a  "fault"?   It's an impeachable offense, and abuse of the power of his office. But since this stooge likely never even graduated high scho ol it makes sense he'd be ignorant of the difference.

But this is the sort of rabble and refuse we have to contend with, and  then we're advised to make nice and be civil with these Walkers in the interest of national comity. Well to hell with that.  Still, one must be grateful that a wide swath of our population - minus Trump's 43 percent of 'biters'- have managed to pick up on Trump's massive mental defects, though they lack any formal training in the psychology profession.  This, according to Diana Diamond, a professor emeritus of psychology at the City University of New York who's just completed a clinical guide for treating narcissistic pathology. According to Prof. Diamond, quoted in a recent NY Times piece:

“ Like many narcissistic personalities, he may cause more severe distress in others than he himself experiences.”

Indeed, and I'd say it's even worse. See e.g.

by P.M. Carpenter | October 14, 2019 - 6:59am | permalink

Look, from the beginning of his presidency (and even before), mental health professionals and normal citizens  have sounded the alarm about Trump’s stability.  See for example, my take on his lack of any moral compass derived from getting treated like Hitler when he was as a kid, e.g.

Narcissism, The Pre-Moral Mind and Donald J. Trump...

Also recall Bandy X. Lee, a forensic psychiatrist at Yale and editor of “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.”   described Trump's mental malignancy to a tee, leaving out nothing. She depicts a dyspeptic and disruptive personality and a peril to our collective security each day he remains in office.  Few of Trump's followers may believe the psychologists and therps who contributed to Prof. Lee's  book, but maybe they will believe Tony Schwarz,  the ghost writer who helped him do 'The Art of the Deal'.   In his words (p. 73, ibid.):
"His amygdala is repeatedly triggered...and his prefrontal cortex - the part of the brain that makes us capable of rationality and reflection - shuts down. He reacts rather than reflects - and damn the consequences.  This is what makes his access to the nuclear codes so dangerous and frightening."

Opinion writers have also  discussed his narcissism openly; so have administration officials, though only in private.

Prof.  Lee's book, which I read last year, is a tour de force on malignant personality in a leader, and echoes many similar assessments of Adolf Hitler..  See e.g.

More recently, in an interview with The Inquisitir she asserts that the media, politicians and the American public don't understand the peril that his mental pathology poses.   Most disturbing is her take on Trump's most ardent supporters (who I peg as the Walking Dead).  These forlorn zeros continue to enable and energize him and "are driven by a desire for chaos and want to see society burn."

I have no doubt of that, and again attribute this perverse attitude to their own failures and grievances which at least are tolerable if everyone else - especially of any stature- goes down with them.  And what better vehicle than the combustible,  unstable criminal with access to the nuclear codes.

As Lee also made clear,   Trump has "conclusively failed a most basic test of mental capacity"  adding:  "Without mental capacity, no presidential capacity is possible, or for any other jobs."

Let's note the distinguishing feature of the zombie, the "walker", is the lack of any executive brain function.  There is no capacity for analysis, reason, or even basic language expression or interpretation. All responses are totally reactive, like when his zombie packs mindlessly bellow  "Lock him up!"  or "Lock her up!" after Trump spouts it.  All the brain left is in the reptilian  R-complex and amygdala.  We see this repeatedly in Trump rally scenes, and in the responses of the zombie pack..

The impetus for destruction is also a characteristic of the walker.  Hence, the existing defect in mental capacity, other than for hatred and chaos, affects Trump's base like a contagion.  Indeed, they identify with fellow Trumpies by their hatred of  political correctness (which is also the manifestation of a form of social moral capacity), elitism in any form  and the "establishment elites" .  Their own mental deficits also compel narcissistic hungers - similar to zombie brain hunger-   that lead them to identify with Trump and emulate his bestial ferocity and incivility. .  Hence, they aspire to become the bodacious bully they see in Trump and love it  when he says "punch 'em out".   Like the walking dead in the series, lacking any consistent supports and resources, only the familiarity of the 'pack, their abiding drive is to only inflict pain on the outsiders: the Dems, the women voters who despise Trump as a serial assaulter and the citizens who tag him f.or the social predator and traitor he is.

Their narcissistic pathology and aggression based on imagined grievance  (and isolation from actual citizens) is aligned with Trump's which is where the real danger lies for our nation and any future civility.  For so long as Trumpism and its implicit degeneracy and incivility is their guiding star there will never be peace in the U.S., civil peace. We will always be one disastrous event from a de facto civil war-  with the walking dead.  We better win, starting with the election next year or we devolve into a nation of the Walking Dead, as millions more become inured to the toxicity.

Catherine Rampell: 'We're All Responsible For The Demise Of American Democracy" - Maybe - But Not Equally!

"If we do not defend the Constitution, there is no nation worth defending".  Rep. Adam Schiff in opening statement to House Intel Committee hearing this morning.

Catherine Rampell in her recent WaPo piece, 'Trump Isn't The Only One Responsible For The Demise Of Democracy', has evidently already interred democracy in this country, writing:
"R.I.P. American democracy. You still had so much left to give! Whom should we blame for your untimely demise?"
Whoa! R.I.P. already?  The Dems only just announced their impeachment inquiry, and we have House Intelligence Committee hearings now featuring newly installed DNI Joseph Maguire - who, according to prefacing info "has already taken the oath to defend the Constitution 11 times", i.e. in his various capacities.  The question is whether he will be forthcoming in defending that oath now under questioning about his role in blocking release of the whistle blower report (which has fortunately come out finally today).
In answer to one question by Rep. Jamie Raskin ('Who gave you the order not to release the whistle blower report?') Maguire hemmed and hawed then finally cited the difficulty of surmounting "executive privilege" issues and the (DOJ) Office of Legal Counsel.  In other words, he told us in so many words that Trump, aka Hitler Jr., had ordered him not to release the report, in concert with his toadies at DOJ. He also likely gave the order to destroy the original transcript which we've also since learned.  Destroying evidence ought to be a major crime in any setting but with the rogues in the WH running amuck, nothing matter, no laws or norms.
Ramapell goes on:
"Understandably, many believe the coldhearted killer was President Trump. He has after all solicited foreign help to aid him in taking out a political rival — twice. He continues to accept payments from other foreign leaders and well-heeled business executives, who patronize his properties in clear hopes of influencing U.S. policy. He has refused to disclose his tax returns, necessary to determine whether the executive branch is working in his interest or the country’s. He has sought to punish perceived political enemies, minorities and other groups that dare cross him.
And so on. But is Trump truly the guilty party?"
But this is akin to asking if at the end of the Third Reich, with Germany's Weimar Republic left in ruins as well as the physical nation and millions of innocents, "Was Adolf Hitler truly the guilty party?"  And definitely he was, in multiple and exponential spades.  He orchestrated the demise of German democracy primarily with his interminable lies - actually becoming known for the saying 'If you tell a lie often enough the masses will believe it'.  And Donald Trump has been no different, able to lie as easily as he breathes. Indeed, one can argue his interminable lying has led many of our fellow citizens with less critical thinking aptitude or intellectual capacity to be led astray.  Hence, leading too many to have voted for him in 2016, i.e. when he lied that he would "make Mexico build the wall".  Oh, and "bring back lots of good jobs".    Also, many of the same to insist there is nothing to impeach him for now. The "good Germans" resurrected in American guise, in 2019.
So yeah, we have to blame Trump.  But we can allow lesser blame for those who fell into his predatory mind fucks, major lies, distortions, conspiracies and paranoid pathologies.  These I put in the same camp as the "good Germans" who helped Hitler get close enough to power in the late 1932 elections to then just need one 'tip' to emerge as Chancellor.- which transpired in January, 1933.
When therefore she writes:

"In my view, he’s the wrong, or at least an incomplete, answer to this particular whodunit."
We give her only partial credit, in terms of the last part of her statement being accurate, not the first. There is no way in hell this predatory criminal, con man and traitor escapes blame. None.
Where she is more accurate in blame assignment in naming ancillary enablers, is the GOP rats and enablers who even now in the hearings are calling them "a weaponized fiction with the media's help" (Devin Nunes).   While the Repubs were stalwart patriots in the case of Watergate, they've now devolved to Trump's accomplices in the destruction of our democracy. As she writes:
"Fast-forward to today. Now that the hypothetical appears to have come true, they’ve mostly fallen silent. Or worse: They’ve urged the Justice Department to investigate the political rival whom Trump sought a foreign power’s help in sullying, former vice president Joe Biden."
Then going on to name a host of Trump collaborators and traitors including Giuliani, Pompeo, Mnuchin, and a whole array of "lickspittle Cabinet officials"
She doesn't let the Dems off either, writing:
"They've been feckless and dragged their feet in demanding critical documents, including Trump's tax returns. They failed to competently question petulant and obstructive witnesses such as Corey Lweandowski"
Which btw, I also complained about, i.e.:
Her next target is also spot on, and names the media as she writes:
"We spread his smears for him and too often shied from any coverage more technical than a tweet. We asked Democrats what would count as an impeachable offense but rarely directed such inquiries at Republicans."
Again, very true  and soon, staring me in the face, is more evidence of media complicity with the editorial of the reactionary WSJ blaring 'The Ukraine Transcript Fizzle' (p. A18), lacking even the minimal standards of adherence to fact by claiming: "The five page transcript shows Mr. Trump ...." blah  blah. Without the insight,  perception or fortitude to point out it was a reconstruction or edited version of the actual transcript - which we now know was destroyed.  But then we know the WSJ - at least its op-ed pages- are part of the FOX News -Rupert Murdoch axis of liars, dissemblers, propagandists.

I've also cited and discussed the incompetence of the other corporate media and an inability to properly cover Trump and his syndicate, e.g.
Rampell ends by naming those citizens who "disillusioned and disappointed are they are, tuned out the onslaught on American democracy."
Indeed, no one can tune out now and escape blame. Yes, the information is coming at us like a torrent, but we don't have the luxury to tune out. Not if we are genuine citizens and patriots.  The whole world is watching and they absolutely do not want us fucking up the next election!

In the meantime, we now know  the effort of  the Trumps Nazis to use Ukraine to investigate Joseph Biden Jr., were so “deeply disturbing” to senior White House officials that an unnamed intelligence official (now believed to be CIA)  felt compelled to file a formal whistle-blower complaint..   Readers can reference it at that highlighted link.

Excerpt from the Complaint:

“The President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election,The President’s personal lawyer, Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, is a central figure in this effort.”

The complaint also added that Attorney General William P. Barr “appears to be involved as well.”
