WSJ Editors: 'Dems Are The Ones Making Life More Expensive' - How Deep Down The 'Earth 2' Rabbit Hole Can They Go?

"When someone as morally warped as Trump — whose first secretary of state called him a “moron” — assumes this much unchecked power at the dawn of the Age of Artificial Intelligence, he can’t be ignored. Because right now Trump is leaving America exposed to dangerous viruses: digital, biological and diplomatic. Something bad is going to happen to us as a result. We and our children are going to pay for this, and not only at the gas pump." - Thomas Friedman, 'Trump Is Going Viral In The Worst Ways', NY Times

Putin in Anchorage last year- now invited to G-20 - at Trump's Doral club in Miami

The saying 'Denial ain't just a river in Egypt' isn't just a short spotlight on the Reepos, but on much of the rightist media, especially The Wall Street Journal - which continues to twist reality to try to comfort Trump. Case in point, its weekend (Sept. 26-27 Editorial, 'Trump Gives Putin Another Blessing', p. A12) where the crew that couldn't write straight scribble:

"In the annals of cognitive presidential dissonance, here's a dubious classic: President Trump has invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the G-20 meeting he's hosting in December at his Trump National Doral Club.  The invitation will give the Russian a photo-op to show he's no longer a pariah on the world stage...

Trump earlier hosted Putin at a bilingual summit in Alaska in August, 2025. But the Russian merely pocketed the public relations blessing from Trump and changed nothing."

We are then alerted later in the piece:

"The Danish Defence Intelligence Service warned this week that Russia could test NATO resolve in coming months with a limited military attack."

Wowser! And the Journal's Editorial Pooh Bahs still aren't ready to declare Trump a Russkie asset? Incredible, given I pointed their deficiency out as early as 5 months ago, e.g.

Unbelievable: WSJ Editors Rip Trump For NATO Threats - Yet Still Can't Admit He's A Putin Asset

But this is the way the Wall Street spielers roll. God forbid they go against the orange tyrant traitor's policies or at least concede the Dems are on the right policy track in demanding Dotard end this costly war he launched 7 months ago with Iran - which is now emptying the bank accounts and pockets of millions.

Nope, instead these nattering nabobs of D-negativity are bitching about the Dems "making life more expensive from healthcare to housing ".  This in their mocking Tuesday editorial ('The Unaffordability Democrats?', p. A16).  Therein they whine about all the 'inflationary' sins committed by the Dems since the start of the pandemic 6 years ago.  We hear, for example, about:

"Their spending splurge in late 2020"  - Which, of course, kept the suddenly unemployed - and renters facing jacked up rents -- from sleeping on the streets.

Then, "their $1.9 trillion spending blitz in March, 2021 "for transfer payments to states and localities" - referring to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.  This critical bill:

- Provided $1,400 stimulus checks per eligible individual

- Extended jobless benefits at $300 per week through early Sept. 2021.

- Expanded the child tax credit to $3,600 per child.

- Invested billions of dollars into vaccine distribution, tracing and contact tracing infrastructure despite a niggardly administration which would rather stifle spending for any pandemic-related needs, issues.

In effect, contrary to the WSJ editors whining, the American Rescue Act played a key role in enabling American citizens' financial and physical survival during the two worst years of the pandemic. Which even then claimed over 1.1. million lives, thanks to Trump's persistent mocking of masking, vaccines and social distancing.   Readers can refer to a number of my  posts during those critical months, e.g.

These WSJ cheese-eaters then try to paint Trump's handling of the economy as more rational yet omit informing us in his first term he spiked the deficits by $7 trillion - more than any president since the founding of the country.  But then in the main front page WSJ article from Tuesday -'How Trump's Inflation Rate Bets Backfired', we read:

"The deficit, however, doesn't rank high on Trump's priorities if it registers at all, advisers said."

Of course not! Why would it if the orange twit can mouth off about giving away $5,000 to each American if the Reeps keep both houses in the midterms. An ignorant brain fart the bond market took seriously (given it would have added $1.2 trillion to the deficit) and had the 10-year Treasury yield lurch past 5%. (A critical threshold). No wonder the Japanese are now pulling back $30b in their T-bond purchases and putting them in Japanese bonds instead. Don't think that will have an effect on Americans' cost of living? Think again

They then argue that "the inflation -adjusted average of $3.43 a gallon for gas in the 2nd Trump term is still lower than the $3.89 average in the Biden years."

Yeah, right, but see, the rise during the Biden years was largely on account of the start of the Ukraine war (in 2022) which Biden had NO control over, unlike Trump who launched his war on Iran on his own - oh, except for Israel's help too.

Further, the WSJ editor's average is incomplete given the Iran war is not over and we've no idea how much longer it will go on. The cost at the pump is already $4.50 a gallon and could go even higher if Iran retaliates for the Trumpers dalliance and any further attacks - like the one on the girls' school 6 months earlier - killing all 150 in one Tomahawk missile strike.

Then there is the current average cost of diesel  (nearly $6.40/ gallon) which the WSJ nabobs omit mentioning at all. Despite the fact it is making the cost of food transport vastly more expensive which is making groceries more expensive. And we haven't even gotten to the costs to farmers to operate their tractors and other machinery. Then there are Trump's misbegotten tariffs which have added costs across the board from fertilizer to ammonia to car parts. Any mention of that? Nope.

Going back to the same front page WSJ inflation rate story-  on how Trump's inflation bets backfired-  we behold the myriad ways Trump made the absolute worst bets on managing the economy - from his tariffs, to reckless spending with his 'Big Beautiful Bill' to launching his war on Iran. So little wonder:

"Inflation is rising, the Fed is raising rates and the 10-year Treasury yield is well above where it stood on Inauguration Day,"

And recall this is the same clueless character who promised not only that he'd bring grocery prices "down on day one" - but end the Ukraine war then too.  Meanwhile, the WSJ editorial cleverly tries to dump all the inflation blame on Biden despite the fact very little of it was under his control, oh wait, "he vowed to repeal Trump's first term border taxes but never did".  Sheesh.

Lastly, can you really trust any editorials that carp about Dems being the culprits on unaffordability - when they can't even recognize a traitor under their noses? Despite the fact they see him giving Putin "a blessing"?  But hold on. We must at least credit the WSJ editors with a residue of spine and remedial intelligence as we read at the very end of the earlier editorial on Putin coming to Doral:

"Inviting the dictator to the G-20 is morally offensive. Even worse, it might make the Russian think he can get away with a targeted attack on NATO."

If Putin does, will you finally pull the wool from your eyes and admit Trump is a Russian asset? Or will you keep making daft excuses by supporting his costly war, begging for $1.5 trillion more defense spending and then piling on the Dems for being the real affordability grinches?

Reality is indeed a harsh task mistress, especially when believing a liar's lies and spin comes so naturally.

Reporting in The New York Times describes an upcoming proposal from the Trump administration to use funds from the Child Care and Development Fund to provide “parent-based child care” in which a married parent could receive financial assistance to stay home to care for their children, while the other parent works. Providing additional income to support economically struggling families, including support for family members who want to be full-time caregivers for children, is a great idea. Pulling the funds to do so from the Child Care and Development Fund is not.

The CCDF was created in the 1990s to provide child care subsidies for low-income families, so parents, primarily mothers, could work or go to school. The program is severely underfunded, however. It serves just 16% of all eligible children and just 17% of eligible children, age 5 and younger. That leaves hundreds of thousands of eligible children sitting on waitlists. Worse, some states don’t maintain a waitlist or have simply implemented an “enrollment freeze,” turning eligible applicants away rather than adding them to a waitlist.

It’s not working any more, this scam Republicans have been running for 45 years, although Trump and many others are trying their best to revive it.

Their strategy has always been simple: break things here in America, create chaos and a mess, hurt working class people while making billionaires richer, and then campaign on fixing what they screwed up.

Two years ago, Michigan Republican Mike Rogers stood in a grocery store for an advertisement blaming Joe Biden for the price of eggs (without mentioning the bird flu that was jacking prices). This week he’s back in nearly the same folksy jacket telling voters that it’s time for Trump to end his illegal war against Iran so gas prices can come down.

Rogers new ad leaves out, of course, the fact that he’d cheered for the war on the day it began in February, claiming Iran was an imminent threat to the United States (it wasn’t and isn’t), and hit multiple rightwing podcasts and media opportunities to demand Americans unite behind Trump in prosecuting the war.
