The reptilian brain's tendencies have exploded in the Trump 2.0 era

The State Department has the nation of Haiti under a “Level 4 – Do not travel” advisory, due to the relatively high risk of “crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest, and limited health care.” The entire advisory reads like the script for a dystopian sci-fi film describing a chaotic, violent failed state run by criminal gangs. Americans at the embassy in Port-au-Prince rarely leave the compound, and family members don’t accompany them on this assignment. The only U.S. planes that can land in Haiti there are those carrying Haitian citizens who have been living in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status, which has now been revoked under the Trump administration’s mass deportation policy. These returnees are likely to become targets of the criminal gangs who effectively control the country.
Reuters reported just last week that at least 47 people were killed and 22 injured in an “overnight gang raid on a neighborhood overlooking Port-au-Prince. That kind of violence is frequent, and to the extent Haiti still has a functional police force, they can do little to stop it. The country is awash in firearms. The U.N. has authorized a Gang Suppression Force of 5,500 armed personnel from various Caribbean and African countries, who will work with what’s left of the Haitian government to tamp down the violence. That force is expected to be on the ground in October, but no one seems to hold out much hope that it will solve the problem anytime soon.
The basis for much of Trump's malignant evil is well summarized in Harvey Hornstein's book Cruelty & Kindness: A New Look At Altruism and Aggression, with its profile of the necrotic personality (p. 41) which also fits Hitler to a tee:
"(These) intolerant, prejudiced, authoritarian people are ill at ease. The baggage of their youth is filled with inescapable hates and fears. Mistrusting their own impulses, they are wary of others and the impulses they might possess. Their world becomes a jungle which must be carefully scrutinized because it is filled with human beings who harbor the 'evil' that they painfully learned to deny in themselves."
The specific locus resides in the reptilian (or lizard) brain (The term "reptile brain" refers to the evolutionary oldest parts of our brain, primarily the brainstem and amygdala, which govern fight-or-flight responses, fear, and dominance.)
can also be explained by his reptile brain gaining control of his frontal cortex or executive centers. This would also account for many of his deranged decisions including starting a war he can't win - and which is causing economic chaos, bond market fallout and critical shortages - as well as sending ICE thugs into American cities to wreak havoc and violence. This is also why he's the most dangerous president in U.S. history,
While many neuroscientists insist the triune brain model is defunct, they have not come up with a better model to explain the spectrum of perturbations in human behavior. If we know all this, how might we bring the "evil brain" as it were, under control to at least mitigate its sudden explosions of violence like school shootings, and the rise of malignant tyrants like Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump.
F0rtunately, we may well be on the cusp of controlling and regulating (at minimum) these atavistic brain tendencies in future tyrants. We know these tendencies - when activated- have produced everything from the Inquisition, to the Crusades, and even the Holocaust. No human in his or her right mind could possibly dispute the fact that our species would be much better, operate more compassionately and perhaps even effectively in the social arena, if the brain could at least be subject to more regulation. One way might be via AGI or Artificial General Intelligence. Below are some of the ways AGI might serve to alter the nascent evil tendencies of embryonic Hitlers and Trumps (if caught early enough):
- Real-time
regulation: Paired with an advanced BCI (like a
future iteration of Neuralink), an AGI could detect the exact neural
signatures of irrational rage, panic, or xenophobia before they reach
conscious awareness.
- Targeted
stimulation: AGI could trigger micro-pulses or
release neurochemicals to stimulate the prefrontal cortex—the brain's
rational center—helping to damp down the amygdala's knee-jerk reactions.
- CRISPR
and gene editing: AGI could identify specific
genetic markers that predispose individuals to hyper-aggression or extreme
anxiety.
- Evolutionary
upgrade: It could design safe, hereditary
modifications to permanently dial down our ancient survival mechanisms,
adapting our biology for a collaborative modern world rather than a
hostile prehistoric environment.

One of the enduring mysteries in today’s American political life is why so many Republican politicians and their friends are adopting or promoting openly Nazi symbols, iconography, and slogans.
Is it a shout-out to the hardcore racists and haters that make up the GOP’s base, all just a performance to get enough votes to win elections? Or a proclamation that the end-goal of Republican governance is the destruction of American democracy, perhaps in deference to Vladimir Putin? How about it’s being a bizarre attempt at trolling people old or well-educated enough to remember or know what Nazism inevitably leads to?
And why are America’s mainstream media so unwilling to even report on, much less discuss, all the Nazi and neo-Nazi references surrounding Trump and today’s captive Republicans?

Over the past few years, there has been an alarming surge of coups d’état across the world, particularly in Africa. The most common definition of a coup is an illegal attempt to seize control of the government. The seizure of power by coup leaders is often justified by pointing to poor governance and/or deteriorating security situations.
Coups are typically irregular transfers of power that occur in countries with weak democratic institutions and may be carried out by military or civilian elites. Consolidated democracies have long prided themselves of being immune to the conditions that generate coups d'etat, but the Trump phenomenon in U.S. politics seems to suggest that there are no absolutes, and that liberal democracy can be brought down.
The storming of the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021, was a coup attempt incited by outgoing president Donald Trump, and can be best described as an “attempted auto-coup.” Yet, shockingly enough, not only wasn’t Trump held accountable in the end for being criminally engaged in a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 election but was allowed to run again for the presidency in 2024. And what is even more shocking is that he prevailed in his third presidential bid by winning both the electoral college and the popular vote.

Vice President J.D. Vance’s embrace of Germany’s neo-Nazi party in a high profile Munich visit this past week sparked outrage and alarm across Europe. It was the latest example of a long history of U.S.-Nazi racism and dictatorship ties that should be a stark warning of what it portends for the U.S. as well.
Vance’s refusal to meet with German Chancellor Olof Scholz, instead holding a private meeting with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader, followed Elon Musk’s video appearance at a campaign kickoff for the AfD ahead of next Sunday’s German elections. It also coincided with escalation of the Musk-Trump administration’s gutting of federal programs and firing of workers, a key step for establishing authoritarian rule at home.
The rise of the AfD and President Donald Trump’s election were both animated by vitriolic, racist practices and ideology, a stark reminder of how the U.S. legacy of racist behavior and laws were a prime model for the ascent of Hitler and Nazi fascism. And how Hitler’s success inspired U.S. acolytes of Hitler like Charles Lindberg, Father Coughlin, and Henry Ford.

Warning Signs: Malignant Narcissism in Trump, According to Steven Hassan

Early on, DJ Trump perceived his talents more suited to play the truculent Lord of Misrule than plausible presidential prospect. Or competent campaigner. Or rational leader. Or trustworthy man. From Birtherism on, Trump gleefully stalked the opposition as a calculated agent of disorder. That’s why today’s scorched earth, “everything is rigged” demolition derby presents nothing new. De-legitimizing rivals, polls, the media, and his own disloyal party, even trustworthy national vote counting, replicates his opening bad faith gambit. Does he now think more fact-free recklessness, let alone again seeding criminal, post-election violence, attracts undecided voters?
