Yes- If Repuke Senators Ignore Bolton's Revelations & Acquit Trump They Are Guilty Of Treason Too

Image may contain: 4 people, possible text that says 'YOU ARE A TRAITOR IF YOU PROTECT A TRAITOR'

"The idea that the Democrats, not Mr. Trump’s campaign staffers, conspired with foreign operatives is more than “conspiracy theory.” It is a fascist ploy to turn lies into truth. This is why I said recently that Mr. Trump’s crime is so much worse than abuse of power. It’s treason."  - John Stoehr, ('When Does Ordinary Republican Partisanship Become Treason' ,   The Baltimore Sun)

Barely hours before former national security adviser  John Bolton released blockbuster contents on Trump's quid pro quo vis -a -vis the Ukraine (in his soon to be published book) the orange maggot traitor tweeted this about Adam Schiff Sunday:

"Shifty Adam Schiff is a CORRUPT POLITICIAN and probably a very sick man. He has not paid the price yet for what he has done to our country!"

Schiff, appearing on 'Meet the Press' Sunday correctly interpreted this as a threat.  Of course,  given Trump consistently projects his own vile attributes onto others (mainly critics, Dems)  his tweet must be reversed to read  i.e.

"I, Donald Trump am a CORRUPT POLITICIAN (and TRAITOR!) and am a very sick man.  I have also not yet paid the price for what I have done and am doing to this country!"

But will this human vermin pay? As the Senate trial winds on, in the midst of the criminal resident bragging openly about obstruction, e.g.
and two days earlier, caught on a video bellowing "Take her out!" - referring to Marie Yovanovitch - barking the order to henchman  Lev Parnas .  e.g.

There is more than ample evidence to hold this swine to account, and even hang him as the traitor he is, especially after Bolton's revelations, namely that Trump wanted to continue freezing nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine until it helped to investigate the Bidens.

  See e.g.

This directly contradicts what the Traitor's defense team has been arguing, i.e. that "there is no connection between security assistance and investigations."    They peddled this bunkum yesterday along with the Kremlin -generated codswallop (by Trump stooge Pam Bondi) that Ukraine was the real culprit in 2016, in conjunction with Burisma & the Bidens.  Then there was the addle-pated Alan Dershowitz again repeating the canard that impeachment required an actual violation of a federal criminal statute. (Never mind none were even written at the time the Founders inserted the impeachment clause).

But now, with John Bolton's material ("like a grenade exploding" according to one pundit)  Trump and his team of liars...errr, lawyers,  are boxed into a corner.   (Trump of course denies he told Bolton anything about withholding aid, but we already know this orange Orang lies like he breathes.)  At the very least, Bolton's ms. confirms all we've seen and heard from earlier House inquiry witnesses, like Fiona Hill and Gordon Sondland.  That means the decision of whether to allow Bolton as a witness puts the Repuke Senators on trial along with the traitor.    Got nothing to hide? Then demand Bolton appear as a witness!

If they refuse to allow Bolton to appear as a witness - at least - far less remove their criminal traitor Overlord,  then yes, they are also traitors. They can be nothing less. Especially in the guise of Trump's derelict lawyers now accusing Democrats of "trying to overturn the 2016 election" - echoing the orange pestilence himself.

Of course, today's  WSJ editorial ('John Bolton's Report', p. A16) insists the Bolton revelation being a "bombshell" is mere "media hype."  Also, if Trump did do it there's still no impeachable offense given "Ukraine never opened an investigation and the U.S.  aid was delivered on time."  Failing to grasp, as usual, that an attempted crime is still a crime.  If Mr. X attempts to embezzle $1m from his company then changes his mind midway through, he's still committed a crime and can be locked up for years.   So the WSJ's "arguments" - like those of Trump's stooge lawyers- amount to balderdash and bare bollocks.

Here's the bottom line: If their guy has nothing to hide, and they themselves want the full evidence they've been claiming the House Dems didn't provide- they have no choice other than to call Bolton to testify.  If they do not, they are in the same cover up, stone wall and obstruction mode as their master.

One must then ask, if these Trump cultists punt,  if the 'Grand Old Party'  has transitioned from hyper -partisanship to treason.  A recent Baltimore Sun article  ('When Does Ordinary Republican Partisanship Become Treason' by John Stoehr), argues this has been done, e.g.

https://www.baltimoresun.com/opinion/op-ed/bs-ed-op-1205-treason-republicans-trump-20191204-b4r43waqcfbtfe7hhjfgjcsixu-story.html

Let's go through Stoehr's essay and assess how close he is to the truth in his assertion. He writes:

"It bears repeating: Donald Trump was not only press-ganging Volodymyr Zelensky in an illegal scheme for partisan gain. He was rewriting the history of 2016 in order to wound enemies (Democrats) and help friends (Vladimir Putin) — as well as to give Kremlin operatives room to strike again. It is in no way overstating the case to say the president of the United States is the head of an international conspiracy to defraud the American people. "

There should be no issue on this, period. We have the evidence, the documents and Trump himself threatening  and even bragging about his alliance with Putin in a criminal conspiracy.

If anyone is into valid conspiracies (like the one behind the JFK assassination)  this is indeed the one to accept because it is closest to the truth of all the ones out there right now.  We know  the Trump team had  more than 100 meetings - that we know of -  with Russians, including GRU intelligence agents.  Specifically in "Trump and His Associates Had More Than 100 Contacts With Russians Before the Inauguration,"   The NY Times tracked down "more than 100 in-person meetings, phone calls, text messages, emails and private messages on Twitter," all made by "at least 17 campaign officials and advisers [who] had contacts with Russian nationals and WikiLeaks, or their intermediaries."

Robert Mueller not only defined a conspiracy in the case of an indictment filed against 12 GRU agents in 2018, but made it public, E.g.

Mueller  also - if you read part one of his report-  made it clear Trump was involved in this  conspiracy.  As Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Tribe elegantly summed up earlier this year ('Last Word' with Lawrence O'Donnell):

"What we have here is a situation where the Mueller report shows without any doubt that a hostile foreign power attacked the United States in this (2016) election.  That Donald Trump welcomed that attack, benefited from it and then - the last couple of years - tried to cover it up every possible way. "

Text messages, phone records, foreign intercepts, emails  - other documentation of the meetings, e.g. of Carter Page-   point to clear conspiracy with the Russkies to alter  the 2016 election.

Even more explicit is the take from Mimi Rocah, former federal prosecutor, appearing January 25th last year on 'All In':

"There's just so many facts in this indictment about the coordination of the Trump campaign with Wikileaks, through Roger Stone. Remember that GRU indictment - if you go back to that- one of the objects of the conspiracy is not just hacking but hacking and disseminating.  You can't look at them alone, you have to go back to everything we know, the Trump Tower meeting, the calling out by Trump to Russia (to grab Hillary's emails)...there's just so many other things."

A de facto conspiracy by any other name. Then there are Traitor Trump's own words to hang him,  e.g.

"I will tell you this, Russia if you're listening, I hope that you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. You will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let's see if that happens."

The very next day the Russkies hacked the DNC - and the traitor 'Pukes have the nerve to try to lay the 2016 election interference on the Ukraine.  Worse, to invoke the Ukraine- Crowdstrike- Burisma nonsense to try to deflect attention and get Trump acquitted.

 Stoehr again:

"It has remained to be seen how far the Republican Party is willing to go in defense of Mr. Trump’s conspiracy. But now, as the impeachment process enters a new and dangerous phase, we are seeing new GOP behavior, though we have witnessed plenty of hints. One reporter wrote recently that Republicans decided the best way to defend the president is to embrace “the claim" of Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election. Let’s be clear.

There was no Ukrainian interference. That’s according to the special counsel’s report, which cited one and a half dozen national security agencies. That’s according to the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report. That’s according to every career official in the State Department who testified under oath last month. The idea that Ukraine, not Russia, attacked the U.S. originated in the Kremlin."

Indeed, this specious - already debunked narrative -  claiming it was Ukrainians who meddled in the 2016 election instead of the Russians- was  totally refuted by Dr. Fiona Hill in her House Impeachment hearings appearance, e.g.

Fiona Hill Schools Russian-Bought Reepos To Disda...

In her own words, from my Nov. 22nd post:

"This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.”

Further, an intel report released the next day (and issued to the Republicans as well ) noted the Ukraine - CrowdStrike BS was being peddled by Putin and the Russians to frame Ukraine.  But the Reptiles have continued to invoke it because they are traitors first and sowers of  propaganda and lies second.  Fifth columnists who consistently place party and obeisance to Trump,  over country. Recall also Traitor Trump's lies at the time,  issued in a tweet, e.g.

"The F.B.I. went in, and they told them, ‘Get out of here, we’re not giving it to you,’ They gave the server to CrowdStrike, or whatever it is called, which is a company owned by a very wealthy Ukrainian. I still want to see that server.”

Hell, even Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocey (two of the FOX 'n Friends trio) had their mouths agape. Kilmeade - once he caught his breath - even had the sense to ask the Traitor- in -chief for his sources.  All he could do was bark 50 more minutes of lies.

Mr. Stoehr again:

"The idea that the Democrats, not Mr. Trump’s campaign staffers, conspired with foreign operatives is more than “conspiracy theory.” It is a fascist ploy to turn lies into truth. This is why I said recently that Mr. Trump’s crime is so much worse than abuse of power. It’s treason. And the Republicans, like lemmings, are heading for a cliff. "

Indeed, these rats are headed over a cliff, and with a huge grenade (the Bolton disclosures) in their sorry paws as well.  Set to blow up just as they vote to acquit Herr Hitler Jr.  And as I noted earlier it was  the Trump team that had  more than 100 meetings with GRU agents. It is the Reepo-Trump alliance who are the traitors and attempting to overthrow the nation's founding principles and Constitution and replace them with a hostile, alien authoritarian fascist stamp.   Once more we learn from Mr. Stoehr:

"It’s quite another thing, however, to know what you’re doing is wrong and do it anyway. The Republicans can’t not know. First, because intelligence officials briefed Senate Republicans, telling them explicitly the Ukraine-attacked-us story is pure Putin disinformation. Second, because Fiona Hill, a former member of the White House National Security Council, and a Russia authority, was clear about what House Republicans were already doing. She said:

“In the course of this investigation, I would ask that you please not promote politically driven falsehoods that so clearly advance Russian interests. I refuse to be part of an effort to legitimize an alternate narrative that the Ukrainian government is a U.S. adversary, and that Ukraine — not Russia — attacked us in 2016.”

Again, repeating what I wrote earlier in regard to Dr. Hill's House testimony.  And now the coup de grace:
"And now we have another reason why the Republicans can’t not know they are participating in a conspiracy to defraud the American people. Rudy Giuliani, who is not regarded for his discretion, confessed to knowing the Ukraine-attacked-us story was bunk. Not only that, the president’s personal attorney actually said he decided to pursue “evidence” of Ukraine’s attack in order to undercut Robert Mueller’s report.

Is that where the Republicans want to go? Well, yes, if Tucker Carlson is any indication. The Fox News host is on the bleeding edge of attempts by Trump partisans to expand what the American people think is acceptable behavior. On his show recently he said: “I’m totally opposed to these [US] sanctions [on Russia] and I don’t think we should be at war with Russia and I think we should take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine.” He went on to say the Democrats hate America more than Vladimir Putin does.   At some point, we must face what it means for Republicans to know the truth but to advance Kremlin lies anyway, even when doing so slowly burns down the republic.

At some point soon, we must stop calling them dupes, and start calling them the enemy."

So by carrying water for the already discredited GRU, Putin and their conspiracy codswallop - like the Senate Reeps plan to do (unless they prove otherwise) -   we can declare  they are indeed the enemy.  Worse, all these misfits who swore to protect and defend the Constitution against "all enemies foreign and domestic"  are de facto traitors.

They are openly using debunked material from a hostile foreign security service to undermine our Republic and indeed to destroy it. Thus, each specious argument made by Trump's lawyers to protect him  - and the Republican party - amounts to one more nail in their treasonous coffins.  The people,  representing the court of final appeal (guided by the Constitution) - will make their final verdict known in November.  Unlike the GOP's cowardly Senators they will oust all these Reepo snakes:  from the presidency, and the Senate.  Giving us a chance to disinfect both from the pestilence that's nearly destroyed them - and our nation.

Fiona Hill Schools Russian-Bought Reepos To Disdain Daffy Ukraine Conspiracy Crap - But Will These Imps Comply?

Image result for brane space, Michael Cohen

"What we’re actually witnessing is a test of the depths to which the Republican Party will sink. How much corruption, how much collusion with foreign powers and betrayal of the national interest will that party’s elected representatives stand for?  And the result of that test seems increasingly clear: There is no bottom. The inquiry hasn’t found a smoking gun; it has found what amounts to a smoking battery of artillery. Yet almost no partisan Republicans have turned on Trump and his high-crimes-and-misdemeanors collaborators. Why not?

The G.O.P. is now a thoroughly corrupt party. Trump is a symptom, not the disease, and our democracy will remain under dire threat even if and when he’s gone."

Paul Krugman,  NY Times, 'Trump and his Corrupt Old Party'

It doesn't get much better than it did yesterday morning in the House Impeachment hearings.  There, in dramatic testimony, British-born Fiona Hill, openly attacked a debunked conspiracy theory used by Republicans (like Devin Nunes)   to defend  the criminal Trump against allegations that he sought to bribe Ukraine for his own political gain.

Dr. Hill  let it be known by one and all that Republicans loyal to Trump must stop pushing the “fictional narrative that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 presidential election "   because it plays into Vladimir Putin’s hands. Indeed, she noted pointedly while staring at Nunes that it was a whole cloth fabrication of the Russian security services.

Make no mistake Dr. Hill's opening statement alone provided perhaps the most striking moment in the House of Representatives’ intelligence committee’s inquiry: A respected, no nonsense official on the biggest possible stage,  accusing Republican House Intelligence Committee members of boosting Russian propaganda efforts to undermine American democracy. As Dr. Hill,  who until July was the national security council’s director for European and Russian affairs. put it:
“Based on questions and statements I have heard, some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country – and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did,"

Adding:

"This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.”
This conspiracy theory, embraced by Trump and amplified by conservative media like FOX,  claims that Ukraine, rather than Russia, meddled in the last election.  These Reeptards contend that Ukraine was complicit in the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and that computer records were fabricated in order to cast blame on Russia. A key talking point was  that a tech company called CrowdStrike, a security firm hired by the DNC, detected the hack.  However, Crowdstrike then worked in cahoots with the DNC and Hillary Clinton to cover it all up in order to make it look like Russia was really helping Trump.

No, folks, you cannot make up this batshit crazy baloney.
According to a rough transcript of the July 25th phone call with Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Trump said:

“I would like to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say CrowdStrike. I guess you have one of your wealthy people. The server, they say Ukraine has it.”
It was this investigation, along with one into  Burisma - a gas company with ties to Joe Biden’s son Hunter -   that Trump and his personal hack Giuliani, pressed for relentlessly.  This was in exchange for the release of nearly $400m in military aid  to Ukraine– the classic, unvarnished quid pro quo.
During the impeachment hearings, Republicans have made frequent references to alleged election meddling by Ukraine, without offering evidence. On the opening day, Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the committee, said “indications of Ukrainian election meddling” had troubled Trump.
Hill, the co-author of the book Mr Putin: Operative in the Kremlin, warned in forensic and measured terms that such rumor-mongering only empowers the Russian president who, as intelligence agencies and Congress concluded, systematically attacked America’s democratic institutions in 2016 and is already plotting do so again next year.
"The impact of the successful 2016 Russian campaign remains evident today,” she said, wearing black and speaking in an accent from north-east England. “Our nation is being torn apart. Truth is questioned. Our highly professional and expert career foreign service is being undermined. U.S. support for Ukraine – which continues to face armed Russian aggression – has been politicized.”
She added:

“Right now, Russia’s security services and their proxies have geared up to repeat their interference in the 2020 election. We are running out of time to stop them. In the course of this investigation, I would ask that you please not promote politically driven falsehoods that so clearly advance Russian interests.”
Doubts over the legitimacy of a U.S. election result, she said, are:  “exactly what the Russian government was hoping for. They would pit one side of our electorate against the other.”
The remarks echoed a public warning by former special counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation demonstrated concerted efforts by Russia in the 2016 election to hurt Democrat Hillary Clinton and help Trump. It also came one day after Putin himself told an event in Moscow: “Thank God, no one is accusing us of interfering in the US elections any more. Now they’re accusing Ukraine.”
When the text of Fiona Hill’s opening statement was released, it was rebuffed by the traitor Nunes, who circulated a specious copy of a 2018  GOP congressional report on Russian meddling. He insisted in his opening remarks that Democrats had dissented from that report’s findings. But hold strain.  Those "findings" were based on tying the FBI, James Comey and the Steele dossier into undermining Trump, see e.g.

So we behold merely another permutation of the Russian conspiracy codswallop that Dr. Hill had exposed.  Meantime, Adam Schiff, the Dem Intel committee chairman, welcomed  Dr. Hill’s intervention and said he shared her concerns.  Especially in view of how the top Reepo clowns had used the specious conspiracy mumbo-jumbo to try to hammer witnesses and attack their credibility.
Daniel Goldman, the Democratic counsel, asked if Trump had ignored the advice of his experts on the Ukraine conspiracy theory and instead taken the word of Giuliani. Dr. Hill replied: “That appears to be the case, yes.”
Recall  that Rudy "Nosferatu" Giuliani  -the  schizoid personality vampire disruptor -
Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling

was put front and centre of the Ukraine scandal on Wednesday by Gordon Sondland, U.S. ambassador to the EU. That remained the case on Thursday.  Dr. Hill acidly observed, after recognizing a two track approach to Ukraine:

"He was being involved in a domestic political errand, and we were involved in national security foreign policy."

That one dynamite  sentence undercut the spurious arguments of the Republicans.  Dr. Hill then reiterated earlier evidence, given behind closed doors, that John Bolton, the former national security adviser, had related to her how Giuliani was like "a hand grenade" about to blow up and that Bolton added: "I am not part of whatever drug deal Sondland and Mulvaney are cooking up."
It remains to be seen whether Fiona Hill's testimony (or any other) will have any remote effect on the millions of Trumpkins throughout the land who still buy into the "Dems did it to Trump"  balderdash.  I refer to delirious dingbats like this loser  (Steve  Gehrke) part of whose Denver Post letter- from November 20-   I reproduce below :
No photo description available.
Is there any hope for this kool aid - slurping  moron?   Not bloody likely.  He isn't even remotely aware that Mueller not only defined a conspiracy in the case of an indictment filed against 12 GRU agents in 2018, but made it public, E.g.

Mueller  also - if you read part one of his report-  makes it clear Trump was involved in this  conspiracy.

Even more explicit is the take from Mimi Rocah, former federal prosecutor, appearing January 25th on 'All In':

"There's just so many facts in this indictment about the coordination of the Trump campaign with Wikileaks, through Roger Stone. Remember that GRU indictment - if you go back to that- one of the objects of the conspiracy is not just hacking but hacking and disseminating.  You can't look at them alone, you have to go back to everything we know, the Trump Tower meeting, the calling out by Trump to Russia (to grab Hillary's emails)...there's just so many other things."

A de facto conspiracy by any other name.

The incredible ignorance  and brainwashing (by too much FOX watching) explains the problem of those like Gehrke who think Dems are "smearing" the orange ape occupying the Oval office when they brand him the criminal that he clearly is.   Smearing him?  He's lucky no one's hanging him yet!   Even FOX legal specialist Judge Andrew Naplitano observed not long after the infamous transcript appeared, that "in the olden  days Trump would be hung, drawn and quartered".    As Adam Schiff made clear at the conclusion of the hearings yesterday:

"I can tell you why I can resist no more and it comes down to timing.  It came down to the fact that the day after Bob Mueller testified, that Donald Trump invited Russia again to interfere in our elections. The day after that! Donald Trump is back on the phone asking another nation to involve itself in another U.S. election. That says to me this president believes he is above the law."

And the Russian connection?  Fiona Hill made that clear in her excoriation of the Republicans' attachment to the "Crowdstrike" conspiracy bilge.  In addition we can reference the words of former acting Solicitor General Walter Dellinger ('All In' Monday night):

"The president excuses Russia and therefore invites their further participation.  What 2016 is about - this reference to investigating 2016 -  is trying to hold the Russians harmless by blaming the Ukrainians for what happened.   And that is telling Vladiir Putiin, 'we've really got y0ur back. We're not going to try to sanction you we're even going to point the finger at somebody else.'

In other words we have Trump committing conspiracy as well as other crimes in spades.  There is no need to "look for crimes" there are dozens smashing us in the face.  The truth is that Trump is unfit for office -  an "anti-President" in Prof. Tribe's words.  Last night on MSNBC Prof. Tribe even laid out the basis for specific articles of impeachment based on evidence from first hand witnesses. Those articles include the following high crimes and misdemeanors:
"Bribery, extortion, the usurpation of congress' power of the purse, the abuse of his office and violation of his oath. On top of that is his unprecedented erection of a stone wall in which he directs everybody connected to the White House and State Department not to testify, not to comply with subpoenas.  That amounts to contempt of congress - a far more sweeping  violation of separation of powers than even Richard Nixon was guilty of, cited in impeachment article 3."

Hence, a stone criminal who's already committed numerous impeachable high crimes and misdemeanors - from flouting the Emoluments clause, to multiple 'pay for play' schemes, to violation of federal financing laws, to collaboration with foreign powers (Russia, Ukraine)  to advance his own personal election chances.  The most recent crime was on full display live during last Friday's impeachment hearing when he openly threatened witness Marie Yovonavitch, e.g.

Julia Ioffe, on 'All In' last night, best summed up the predicament of this country now with half its citizens mind-fucked by false news, misinformation and outright propaganda:

"What we're seeing is two parts of the population are living in parallel information universes only one of which is true. That also exists in Russia and now we have that happening here."

Adding that: "as the scandal started brewing and continuing through the hearings,  the people trapped in the right wing media kept harping that 'Oh they never got over the Russia hoax' and they kept on about the Steele dossier.  It's like those conspiracy theories never went away.  It's like Devin Nunes asking 'Hi, witness, have you heard of conspiracy theory 72 B.?  That stuff is all from the Mueller era and it's been baked in."

Clearly the Denver Post letter writer is one of those trapped in Nunes'  and the Reeptards' pseudo-conspiracy twaddle which Fiona Hill so forcefully skewered.

Sadly, the trumpeting of false news and narratives isn't only on FOX.  The mainstream media outside FOX is now also giving validation to disinfo and propaganda. Exhibit One was CBS this morning featuring former RNC chief Reince Priebus as the guest, commenting on the hearing yesterday. Priebus, as expected, spun the trope there was "no direct evidence" given Trump never said the specific "magic" words ('I hereby order you to do a quid pro quo' for me!') to any of the witnesses. The questions then asked by the 3 CBS hosts were all softball types, so Reince could laugh his way out of it, leaving the CBS trio sucking air.

The question is "Why would any serious news outfit feature a political hack and clown like Priebus to discuss impeachment, rather than a learned professor like Lawrence Tribe? "

If the country is going to survive this crisis, we need more savvy and critically thinking citizens else we shall not "keep" this Republic.  As Benjamin Franklin once told a woman who asked him what kind of government we had: "A Republic...if you can keep it."

Right now that Republic is on the line.

Time To Halt The Russian Hacking Hysteria - Fact: We Don't Know WHO Launched Yesterday's Cyber Attack

Almost like clockwork as news of the denial of service attack on the internet spread, out came media dunderheads and propagandists blaming it on the Russians.  But as I pointed out several months ago, in respect of the DNC hack (also blamed on the Russians) there isn't a scintilla of hard, incontrovertible evidence.

I cited tech sources that noted the sheer difficulty about actually positively identifying the source of the hack, indeed any hack. As one expert put it (on the site techdirt.com), : "Just because you find an AK -47 lying around doesn't mean a Russian was responsible". Same thing with a system hack bearing  "Russian Cyrillic letters in the code". Ever heard of spoofing a hack? When did we see this before? Well with the claimed Sony  hack by N. Korea three years earlier. (Which turned out to be due to a disaffected, former  Sony employee).

Worse, the cyber security firms (like 'CrowdStrike')  and resident "experts" that make these wild claims are often the beneficiaries of   "faith-based attribution"  whereby they skate and are never held accountable when they are wrong. SO pardon me if I didn't bite then about "the Russians and Putin doing it" and don't now with this massive hack attack yesterday. Indeed, too many Americans have the memories of gnats and appear to forget there is a perfectly capable group out there ("Anonymous")  that has done denial of service attacks before and isn't connected to any "Russians". See e.g.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/09/08/masked-avengers

As the techdirt.com line in the preceding paragraph points out (and I implore readers to read the entire account):

"It’s important to know that the process of attributing an attack by a cybersecurity company has nothing to do with the scientific method. Claims of attribution aren’t testable or repeatable because the hypothesis is never proven right or wrong. Neither are claims of attribution admissible in any criminal case, so those who make the claim don’t have to abide by any rules of evidence (i.e., hearsay, relevance, admissibility).

The closest analogy for a cybersecurity company’s assignment of attribution is an intelligence estimate, however intelligence analysts who write those estimates are held accountable for their hits and misses. If the miss is big enough (No WMDs in Iraq, missed India’s five nuclear bomb tests in ’98, missed Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, etc.), there are consequences, and perhaps a Congressional investigation.

When it comes to cybersecurity estimates of attribution, no one holds the company that makes the claim accountable because there’s no way to prove whether the assignment of attribution is true or false unless (1) there is a criminal conviction, (2) the hacker is caught in the act, or (3) a government employee leaked the evidence."

The last paragraph is especially important about no one holding the cyber bunch making the original  claim to account because there's no way to prove the assignment of attribution is true. Thus, Crowdstrike and its sister corporate companies - even the FBI - can make all the rash claims they want about "the Russians" but no one will hold them to account given the lack of proof.

It's analogous to a rash physicist making a claim, say that heat generated in a one-off experiment arose from "cold fusion".  But he has no way to replicate it,  no way to prove it. He has succumbed to "faith based attribution".  But given with these recent hacks, rash claims against nation states put us in a geopolitical arena, it is reckless to assign blame without 100 % hard proof. This is given that any consequences could be severe.

For example, launching a U.S. cyber attack on Russia could provoke a full scale cyber war. Let us also, for reference, note that the Stuxnet worm that was released to attack Iranian centrifuges back in 2012  was known to have the potential to be "re-purposed" by just about any adept hacker. See, e.g.

http://brane-space.blogspot.com/2012/06/who-made-flame-virus-same-bunch-that.html

In terms of faith -based attribution, recall James R. Clapper Jr. (the same character who lied before the Senate Intelligence Committee  denying the U.S. had  any mass surveillance of its citizens) recently said in a statement on Oct. 7 that "high-level Russian officials were trying to interfere with American elections."

But to refer back to the previous tech link again:

"the closest profession to the attribution estimate of a cyber intelligence analyst is that of a religious office like a priest or a minister, who simply asks their congregation to believe what they say on faith. The likelihood that a nation state will acknowledge that a cybersecurity company has correctly identified one of their operations is probably slightly less likely than God making an appearance at the venue where a theological debate is underway about whether God exists"

In other words, Clapper is more playing the role of a padre citing religious   dogma than a cyber intelligence analyst or authority. It simply doesn't hold water, it's merely faith based attribution that serves the purpose of spreading anti-Russian propaganda.

Perhaps the biggest slam on today's cyber companies hurling these attributions is that their methodology is largely passe. Thus:

"Many of the cyber intelligence analysts who work at companies like CrowdStrike, FireEye, and Mandiant have come out of the military or the Intelligence Community with prior analytic training."

The problem is these companies are still using unstructured analysis as opposed to structured. This difference was explained by Maj. Robert D. Folker, Jr. (USAF) in his January, 2000 paper “Intelligence Analysis In Theater Joint Intelligence Centers: An Experiment In Applying Structured Methods” published by the Joint Military Intelligence College. He believed that adding structure would vastly reduce the conjecture component and yield "superior results". It remains to be seen whether any of these cyber security outfits have upped their game, and until they do we simply can't accept their conclusions any more than a religious dogma.

Until real evidence manifests, citizens would be well advised not to jump to conclusions,  especially when assorted "authorities" insist they have identified  the culprits for the hack. No they have not. Again, read the full account in the "faith based attribution" link.

For the person grounded in deep politics, these unproven accusations from the Neoliberal and Neocon national security state fetishists are especially disturbing as we've seen this before. The spread of propaganda prior to an attack on the specified "enemy".  One can only hope this isn't leading up to a full scale cyber attack on the Russians, followed by the folly of trying to implement a "no fly zone" over Syria after HRC is elected. As one observer put it on Chris Hayes' All In several nights ago, that would be a harbinger of nuclear war.

Temperatures are soaring with this general election. It is important the nation and its people keep their cool and operate within the province of evidence and reason - not "faith" - when it is finished.
