A particular conservative blogger on reading my first post on Dylann Roof's racist mini-genocide of blacks and calling for him to be "partially electrocuted until his eyes are popping...then sent to the gas chamber to finish him off" wrote:
If asked NOW how he feels about the death penalty would he answer "for", "against," or "only in cases where a white has murdered a black"?
But let's clear the air on this, in case he missed my previous post on this issue. (Warning in advance - this argument is nuanced!) For reference he can check out my post:

Both the killers, btw, were black. Black Barbadian nationals. In the same post, this is why I was against just killing the Tsarnaev punk. Because there would be no rapid resolution and the horror of the families would be re-lived possibly for decades. As I noted:

Thus even one of the Boston families advocated for a speedy end with life in prison as opposed to endless torturous rounds of appeals. Hence, I indicated this was the rational response to take - not to be interpreted as being against the death penalty per se, but rather against indefinitely long infliction of mental pain and grief on the affected families.
I also advocated for this resolution in the case of James Holmes, given his defense team has vowed they will "fight on for years, or decades" if need be. Each appeal coming with ever more witness appearances by the families as opposed to closure. So the question is: is it not better to end it than pick at a scab endlessly until it gets more painful and infected? I believe so!
Again, not to be construed as anti-death penalty but rather anti- torture for the victim families in a long, drawn out appeals process! And let me add again, the statistics don't favor an execution end for Tsarnaev as noted above. In the case of Holmes, most legal analysts are convinced he could survive for at least 20 years maybe more during appeals - all the time the families suffering - when locking him away would end it. And please note here that the race, or ethnicity of the victims is irrelevant to the long term mental cost inflicted on the families! Thus, my reasons for advocating for life in prison would be the same, IF the mental burden on the victims' families is the same. (It would evidently not be for Roof as he appears headed for a speedy trial and conviction with death penalty verdict 100% assured.)
Lastly, let me correct my blogger friend when he spiels that:
These 'new' (KKK) Klaverns are NOT racist, either. They are NOT anti-black (or latino, etc), but simply want to show their white heritage without the verbal slings and arrows - the same courtesy given to the NAACP, NBPP, and others.
Errrr..... no! The KKK Klaverns are as racist as ever they just disguised it under the veneer of "heritage". Alas, by resort to this codswallop they have my friend fooled they are only out for their own "racial pride". This bollocks, fortunately, was actually exposed vividly in one 'Phil Donahue' episode (still have it on a VHS tape) from the 1980s which featured Thomas Robb, former National Head of the KKK who was on the show. As for my blogger friend's persistence in claiming "all crimes are hate crimes" - despite the fact he gives a fairly clever bit of reasoning (a crime of one individual like Roof against a group can inspire hate from that group), we shall have to agree to differ. After all, if I foolishly leave my home unlocked all night long and burglars walk in and help themselves to my electronic stuff - that is not hate, but a crime of opportunity. I may hate them for grabbing my stuff but the crime itself is not one of "hate". Ditto, if a foolish young college girl gets overly inebriated and sashays down a dark alley at midnight with only a bikini on. The rapist she encounters is governed more by opportunity than "hate". Now true, the incident may inspire hate among her peers, but the crime itself cannot be judged a "hate crime" unless other evidence appears - i.e. the rapist scrawls "I hate women" on her belly with a magic marker.
I still go by what the federal definition of hate crime is (from the DOJ website), to wit:
Hate crime is the violence of intolerance and bigotry, intended to hurt and intimidate someone because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious, sexual orientation, or disability. The purveyors of hate use explosives, arson, weapons, vandalism, physical violence, and verbal threats of violence to instill fear in their victims, leaving them vulnerable to more attacks and feeling alienated, helpless, suspicious and fearful. No reasonable person I know of would disagree with that, but if my conservo friend does - well, we agree to disagree!

The Tsarnaev Case: Why The Death Penalty Verdict Will Not Bring "Closure"
In 1990, after my wife's uncle was murdered in his home in cold blood, Bajans were up in arms that the two thugs - finally apprehended in Grenada - be dispatched to the gallows to get their just desserts. At the time, in fact, I was a strong death penalty advocate given my belief that a small island nation didn't have the luxury of entertaining life in prison for murdering rats. It simply didn't have the resources, or the manpower to dispense such sentences for stone killers (increasing in abundance since the island became a trans-shipmen point for drugs.) So the best solution was to "hang 'em high". My wife felt exactly the same way.
Then Amnesty International intervened in 1991, filing a suit in British and a local high court (Privy Council) that effectively claimed the island nation was guilty of 'cruel and unusual punishment' in singling certain varmints out for hanging, Barbados was in an uproar. Who the hell were these upstarts to barge into national matters that didn't concern them? Who were these foreign clowns to play fast and loose with our security? (Around this same time, and after a neighbor English girl was raped in broad daylight, we applied for a gun license - but were later told that we might use a machete instead since the wait for guns was at least ten years!)
Eventually, the two maggots who committed the foul deed escaped, but by then we had left the island for the U.S. All subsequent evidence is they were finally caught in Carriacou after 5 years and remanded to Glendairy Prison where they remain - hopefully to rot. By this time, all our vengeful passions had been spent - we just wanted to make sure they never got out again. (New solitary cells at the prison with multiple gates, doors now ensure that.)
This provides some background to my take on the Tsarnaev case, and let me make it clear this piece of terrorist garbage really has no more right to enjoy 50 or 70 years living than the filth murderers of my wife's uncle. However, there is one difference, life in the Supermax prison in Florence, CO would be a "hell on Earth" - as described by one guest of Chris Hayes last Friday.
But, on account of the death penalty verdict the appeals process could last decades, and there is no assurance any of the victim families would find closure anytime soon. (Despite what Jan Norton, mother of two victims claims). A very high price for vengeance. By contrast, in Barbados - before the Amnesty intervention - a convicted killer could expect to be hung within a year. Appeals were limited and the scumballs......errrr ...defendants....usually got the dregs of the island's legal talent to work with.
Not so in the U.S. According to a CBS News report last night, the waiting time is 15 years on average between verdict and execution. And that is only for the states. For the federal government (under which laws Tsarnaev has received it) it could be much longer. One Boston College Prof interviewed said it could well be decades, if ever. All that time, Tsarnaev could be rotting in Supermax.
True, Timothy McVeigh was executed in 2003 under federal law for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, but that was only because he waived his right to further appeals. Make no mistake that Tsarnaev will not do the same. (And the first appeal is automatic.) This is why the family of little Martin Richard pleaded for an end to it all by giving Tsarnaev life in prison. The family's statement read:

Another little discussed aspect is that the lethal drugs used in executions are running low and the Europeans are no longer prepared to send them for the purpose of executions. (The precise lethal cocktail drugs are not manufactured in the U.S.) Meanwhile, since Congress reinstated the federal death penalty in 1988 there have been only 3 executions - out of 71 death row inmates.
No one is saying that Tsarnaev should "get off easy" - but at the same time people, reasoning people, have to ask: At what price ultimate justice? 15, 20 or more years of the families dragged before the courts? Easy to say 'Of course!' when you're not numbered among them! But as usual when practical means are often best suited to exact justice, they are often overridden in favor of extremes that backfire.
In the Tsarnaev case, the priority ought to be letting this maggot start rotting - and the sooner the better. This, as opposed to letting him and his defense team lollygag for twenty years or more while the victim families go through hell in multiple court cycles - starting with the defense moving to have the next trial out of Boston.

Jo-Kar and Tammy: A Case of Macho-ism Run Amuck
As the pundits mull and chew over the background of the two Boston bombers, the younger one now captured, their range of theories have spread far and wide. They may be Chechen Terrorists, taking their grudge match with the Russkies to our shores now. They are radical Islamic crazies, probably with some yet unknown ties to al Qaida.
I have an even simpler hypothesis: they were losers (as their Uncle Ruslan noted) who were overtaken by hyper-Macho bravado. My hypothesis, which I will elaborate on in this post, names the older bro, Tamerlan, as the one most infected who then managed to bully Dzhokhar ('Jo-Kar') to follow him into perdition and infamy- likely by insulting his manhood.
So how did this happen? From the stream of news yesterday, we learn Tamerlan arrived in the U.S. from Kyrgyzstan sometime in 2005. He got married, had a child and then saw hell making friends and keeping a job. As some commentators have noted, one of his oft-proclaimed sayings was “I can’t make any American friends!”
Of course, cultural differences may have been operating, and let’s face it, it’s much more difficult to integrate into a foreign culture at the age of 18, 19 or 20 than it is at the age of 8 -when his brother Dzhokhar arrived. Not surprisingly, Dzhokhar appeared to integrate well, attending American public high schools as he made many friends – a number of whom described him as a ‘great, friendly guy’ on yesterday’s ‘Good Morning America’. They also noted how he apparently won a scholarship at his high school.
Getting back to ‘Tammy’:
In 2011, he traveled to Russia where he remained for six months. We don’t yet know the details of his stay there, who he contacted or what was discussed. But there’s a good bet he may have met with radical Chechens who turned him towards a violent outlook and possible mayhem as an alternative to being emasculated (in his mind) as an unemployed, stay-at- home dad. Now, are some Chechens radical Islamists? Yesssss…..but not all are, and let’s bear in mind the Chechen independence battles have been going on for more than 300 years. My point is that we mustn’t let possible tenuous Islamic connections distract us in interpreting the Tsarnaev brothers deeds. So we do not want to inflate them, as the Right Wing media have already displayed a penchant to do, see e.g.

Clearly, the Right has a bug up its ass and likely also a boner to turn this into another frothing Benghazi investigation.
So, ‘Tammy’ returns to the U.S. after his Russian 6-month sojourn and feels pumped, more manly and determined to make a stand to confirm his masculine bona fides. In his disturbed mind, what better way to do it than a quasi-terror attack? However, he wants to recruit his younger brother since he doesn’t want to be later designated as a “lone wolf”. To him, the term is dismissive and reduces his macho stature. Much better to be in league with another conspirator and who better than Dzhokhar, 7 years his junior? Besides, the “limp wristed” little wuss needed to grow up and be a MAN! He’d been coddled and pussified in the American cocoon his whole life, now was the time to man up!
Tammy envisaged the putative attack conceived in his febrile brain as a way to ensure the younger brother’s coming of age. Also, a way to eradicate some of his latent Americanization .
When the plan is first bruited, Dzhokhar would have expressed shock and objected strenuously. “WHY ME? I’m a second year med student! I have a scholarship! I’m happy!”
Tammy: “Tough shit! What are you, a sissy or a MAN? Our Chechnya is being plundered and you want to stay in your little girlie cocoon? It is time to MAN up, you little faggot!”
And so, not wanting to disappoint ‘Tammy’, Dzhokhar agrees to whatever fell plan is being laid. He cringes as Tammy explains the pressure cooker and pipe bombs they will build, wondering why this extreme is needed to prove manhood. Why must so many people be harmed?
Tammy is resolute: “It just has to be! This way we will get our names in the lights and be seen as MEN! Besides, we are fighting for Chechnya, little brother! You DO remember Chechnya, don't you?”
Is this too far out? Not at all. The commission of mass mayhem, as a passage to "manhood", is a long standing meme. It accounts for why many schizoid personalities, sociopaths and other dysfunctionals use it to hyperbolically claim what they can't otherwise, i.e. in more normal settings. Insecure within themselves, they associate violence and physical brutality with manhood....which is also why so many American youth rush to join the military if the warmongers sound the notes of "patriotism" and "becoming a man" at the same time. Join the Peace Corps as a viable option? "Not on yer life! I wanna be a man and carry a big gun! " Well, ok, just don't step on any mines or get in the way of IEDs! You'll really be tested waiting for that first disability check!
The Columbine killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, in their diaries (including video), wailed and wrung hands for many months about how “balless” and “submissive” they felt being picked on by all the jocks at their High School. They conceived of a mass killing – which originally included bombs – to reclaim their stolen masculinity from the football jocks. They got their "manhood" all right - and it lasted all of maybe 3 hours. Now, they're dead and buried with it.
Twisted? Foolish? Nutso? All the above!
In the case of the 2 Boston bombers, two losers – one defined by an inability to assimilate into American society or make friends- coerced his more amicable younger sibling into his nefarious plans by exploiting male insecurity. It's an age-old tactic that works on everything from getting an ordinary punk kid (minus even any whiskers to shave) to join the Marines, to getting ordinary street kids and toughs to join a gang like the Crips or Bloods.
Major terrorists and part of some extended “Islamic” cell based in Chechnya? Doubtful! More like two-bit punks who resolved in the most pathetic and tragic way possible to spread fear, gain a brief notoriety and in so doing….grasp what they believed to be the touchstones of masculinity.
They were too browbeaten, brain-damaged or brainwashed to grasp that true masculinity doesn’t reside in how many people you kill, beat with bottles or baseball bats, or how long one spends fooling around with guns and bombs, but in how much one cares for and about others.

Ok, I know my youngest bro (aka Pastor Mike) is a dumb shit, as assorted commentators have observed (see e.g. recent Mail Branes). He's ignorant, semi-educated, obtuse and all these things fuse together in his fervent commitment to anti-intellectualism and Christian fundamentalism. We know, for example, that the fundamentalist brain is the archetype for anti-intellectualism in the US of A (See, for example, Richard Hofstadter's 'Anti-Intellectualism in American Life')
Anyway, Mike's latest Macguffin, apart from claiming he's 'checkmated' me again (in his dreams) - after he saw my blog post on evangelicals, sending his neurons into the crapper, is that I mislabeled one of the Boston bombers as "white". He implied I was "blind" as well as ignorant, and actually showed the image of the younger dude with his face in full front view.
So wait, Mike, then what is the guy's race? Black? (My belief is this dope thinks the guy and his bro are Muslims, so are both "black")
But as the Wiki article observes:

But irrespective of that, and in the context of either quote, the two brothers, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev - meet the American criteria for being defined as "Caucasian" via the census, and hence "of the white race" - no matter how much half bro Mike's Islamic-obsessed brain may insist otherwise. Note also the two brothers actually originated from the region of the Northern Caucasus (of which Chechnya is part) whence the term "Caucasian" arose!
One more thing, if this turkey can't even parse the race of a perp, how the hell can we trust him on anything to do with evolution? (Apart from the fact he flunked the evolution test - which he submitted to me in secret, scoring a whopping 1 out of 50)
Methinks Mike needs to convert his whole blog to a graphics art forum, since one thing he does seem to be able to do is create garish .jpg cartoons of himself and others, as well as demons. Hell, I've already begun to DL page by page to send to my great niece Shayle, a psychotherapist. I told her to regard it as material very useful to diagnose paranoid schizophrenia. I also asked her to consider possibly committing the little fucker to the nearest asylum.
Who knows? He may end up in the same place as James Eagen Holmes if the latter manages to escape the death penalty and is found insane. Then the two of them can draw their demons together and also exchange views on the best way to clean a semi-automatic. In their minds!
Great! So Now We Have to Worry About Chechen Terrorists?
As the images of the two Boston bombing suspects appeared on MSNBC last night, I freeze –framed one on the DVR so my wife and sister-in-law Krimhilde could see it. It was the one of the younger perp with reversed white baseball cap and showed him in profile. I told my wife and sister-in-law to look closely at the profile and the aquiline nose, facial contours then remarked: “This guy is not American, at least not native –born!”
I suggested he probably came from one of the southern breakaway, former Soviet Republics, maybe either Kyrgyzstan, or possibly Chechnya. But, in any case, the guy’s white face was too foreign -looking to be a born n’ bred Yankee. My wife found this an incredible observation and resisted that conclusion.
This morning, on turning on MSNBC I learned the perps IDs were confirmed: Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, ethnic Chechens who had moved to the U.S. in 2002. The older (26) Tamerlan was killed after a shootout in Cambridge this a.m. and he’d apparently been run over by the younger punk trying to make a getaway in a Mercedes.
Thanks to the FBI finally releasing images of the suspects, as I’d advised in my blog post from night before last, the two bombers were exposed. Last night – realizing they were made- the brothers went ape shit, killing an MIT campus policeman then holding up a seven –eleven. Now the younger –as I write this – is still on the loose.
What happened to make these two ingrates- given U.S. residency after fleeing their homeland (with the younger awarded a scholarship while in a Cambridge high school) - snap? One can only surmise, but given their Chechen background (at least of their parents) maybe they believed the U.S. was somehow involved in the Chechen bloodshed.
To give some background: the conflict in Chechnya began in 1994 as a separatist war, but quickly morphed into an Islamic insurgency dedicated to carving out an independent Islamic state in the Caucasus. Russian troops withdrew from Chechnya in 1996 after the first Chechen war, leaving it de-facto independent and largely lawless, but then rolled back three years later following apartment building explosions in Moscow and other cities blamed on the rebels.
Chechnya has stabilized under the steely grip of Kremlin-backed local strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, a former rebel whose forces have been accused of massive rights abuses. But the Islamic insurgency has spread to neighboring provinces, with Dagestan, sandwiched between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea.
Militants from Chechnya and neighboring provinces have carried out a long series of terror attacks in Russia, including a 2002 hostage-taking raid in a Moscow theater, in which 129 hostages died, a 2004 hostage-taking in a school in the southern city of Beslan that killed more than 330 people, and numerous bombings in Moscow and other cities.
The Obama administration placed Chechen warlord Doku Umarov on list of terrorist leaders after he claimed responsibility for March 2010 double suicide bombings on Moscow's subway that killed 40 and a November 2009 train bombing that claimed 26 lives. In recent years, however, militants inChechnya , Dagestan and other neighboring provinces have largely refrained from attacks outside the Caucasus .
But who knows? Maybe Monday's Boston Marathon mayhem is the first manifestation that the Chechen separatist terror has come to U.S. shores. We don’t know unless the pair’s background is scoured and connections to Chechen radicals is confirmed. Also, whether in fact they were operating alone or under instructions from Chechen warlord Doku Umarov.
On the other hand, their uncle (Ruslan Tsarni) who lives in Maryland came out to meet the press (NBC) this morning and rejected any implication that there were any Chechen connections at all, portraying the two nephews merely as "losers" who were unable to adapt and assimilate into American life. Even as he said that, however, the rumblings of there being a third suspect manifested - though the authorities have finally laid that one to rest.
I admit then that my conjecture of a domestic, Right wing anti-government terrorist was wrong, though I did get the race correct. (Mikey the Maggot demands I "apologize" for de facto insulting all racist, Right wing anti-gov't white 'Murican loons like him. But I will do that when he apologizes for being wrong on: biblical inerrancy, biblical literalist interpretation, Evolution, the Big Bang, and putting up hateful, bigoted detritus on the graffiti board he calls a blog.)
As for any "Islamic" connections, we don't know that yet. In any case, even if some link to al-Qaida or other radical Islamist terrorist organizations (i.e. in Chechnya) is found, it would not be advisable for the U.S. to go in and bomb the Chechens! The Russkies and Mr. Putin would not take kindly to it, any more than we would if Russians bombed southern Mississippi after a pro-Confederate sympathizer from Biloxi was found to have tried to bomb Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence.
So the moral is:
Let the Russians take care of any Chechen Islamic or other terrorist problems themselves. We’ve already shelled out more than we can afford on our own wars on terror without starting another!
If the remaining perp is merely a "loser" as his uncle proclaims, try to capture him and bring him to trial. Otherwise, get him dead or alive.
Questions remain: If the younger one is captured alive, and found to have actual radical Chechen connections, will he be dispatched to Guantanamo to await trial?
How about waterboarding? Is that planned in order to learn if he knows if any other Chechen cells are operating?
