Tony Bowens, 31, spent nine days in a hospital in March fighting for his life against the deadly coronavirus. In many ways, he’s just grateful this Christmas to be home with his wife and two kids, even though very little is the same. As his family struggles to pay rent, he can’t believe Congress and Trump haven’t reached an agreement on aid. In a comment left on the WaPo website, Bowens wrote:
“It feels like everybody is playing politics with people’s lives. That $600 check wasn’t much, but at least it would have been dispersed just in time.”
Bowens was among hundreds who inundated The Washington Post with messages and phone calls this evening. All from people "on the verge of losing their homes and cars and going hungry this holiday who are stunned that President Trump and Congress cannot agree on another emergency aid package. Several broke down crying in phone interviews."
According to The Post account:
"Some blamed Trump for torpedoing a $900 billion relief package at the last minute. Others agreed with Trump that the proposed $600 checks for over 150 million American households was too little, too late and should be raised to at least $2,000. Others blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for not taking a deal in August."
Hold strain! Blame Pelosi? What are these forlorn people imbibing? Bad Ripple? Bad weed? Or garbage disinfo from FOX News? It was Pelosi who tried to get them the best and most generous deal via the Heroes Act! The only culprit in this last minute fiasco is the dyspeptic, chaotic asshole TRUMP. He is the one who blew it up on his way out to Mar-a-Lago to continue licking his wounds over his election loss. (Oh, and plotting more ways to trigger martial law to overturn the election in secret confabs with conspiracy freaks like Sidney Powell et al)
The Post also noted about these folks:
"Most told The Post they are 'not political people” and are struggling to understand why Congress and the president would be able to celebrate Christmas when 14 million Americans are slated to lose unemployment aid on Saturday, the government is set to shut down on Tuesday, and an eviction moratorium that has prevented millions from losing their homes during a pandemic ends on New Year’s Eve."
I am very sorry, but "not being political people" cannot be used as an excuse for random brain farts, mental mush misfires and not paying attention to the news cycle when your economic lives are on the line! And if these "non-political" people HAD paid even minimal attention they'd have learned how Trump pitched a hissy fit and did it on his way out of the White House door for his Christmas vacay. Call him Scrooge!
If this walking fungal pestilence fails to sign the bipartisan -approved Covid relief bill not only will millions lose access to two federal unemployment programs (passed in March under the $2.2 trillion Cares Act) but millions more will be exposed to evictions. This is given an existing eviction moratorium is set to expire at the end of this month, which was to be extended by the aid package. Worse, there will be a government shutdown unless Congress passes a temporary spending bill by midnight on Monday, since the government will run out of funding by then. Does Donnie Dotard care? Hell no! He looks on this as just another "loyalty test" of the Repukes in congress, many of whom basically told the loser asswad to suck it up and move on.
Again, it's time Americans improve and enhance their knowledge of the politics that's governing their lives. From the election system, its security aspects (including for mail-in voting) to the Electoral College and its limits, and also their system of government- its branches and what each does. There is no excuse for citizen malpractice or ignorance whether one is rich or poor. As Nicole Wallace put it earlier today ('Deadline Whitehouse') , there is also no excuse for Americans to "gorge on mental garbage, disinformation and junk from social media or FOX News" - like Morgan Spurlock did on Mickey D burgers in 'Supersize Me' - to the point of becoming health wreckage from fast food.
I had not intended to do a post today, but reading the WaPo account and how so many Americans (understandably miserable at their plight) are all over the map in placing blame - when there is only one obvious rat- infuriated me. The lack of reality perception - never mind political insight - was simply flabbergasting. As if the Trump zombie disease was now infecting those in desperate need as well, to the point they were unable to see HE was the source of their impending calamity.
It simply beggars one's reason and credulity that these desperate people were/are unable to figure out who blew their Covid Relief package to bits. Who sat on his fat, orange ass for 9 months while he let Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin run point for him on the negotiations, e.g.
Mnuchin’s loyalty to Trump could end with setback as president shreds relief deal
While himself- not doing a fucking thing - oh, unless you count trying to overturn the election! Then when a deal had finally emerged, the ratfucker blows it up on his way to his vacay. So no, I have no patience with people who are unable to parse this out and see the real culprit. Inexcusable!
Update 12/28: The orange-hued degenerate finally relented last night, reversed course and signed the Covid relief package. But do not give this Turd-in -chief a medal or a kudo. Because of his primadonna act the unemployment benefits for millions have lapsed, which means they may not see another check for weeks. Meanwhile, they will have to scratch and scrounge to try to survive until added benefits kick in. According to CBS' John Dickerson this morning a major reason for this episode was Trump having a tantrum "angry at Republican leaders" for not buying his bunkum about a "stolen election". Meanwhile, this assrat may still be plotting a coup instead of leaving with dignity and grace - which no cockroach I know of ever possessed. See e,g,

Let's get one thing straight: Donald Trump does not care about the American people. Whatever Trump may say, he is not threatening to blow up the coronavirus stimulus bill Senate Republicans finally agreed to pass because the bill isn't generous enough. Trump could not care less if all Americans starve to death, and he certainly isn't breaking a sweat trying to get the COVID-19 vaccine out to the public. He was not defending working Americans when he released a video calling the GOP-endorsed coronavirus bill a "disgrace" and pushing for a Democrat-friendly plan to send out $2,000 checks instead of the $600 ones Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agreed to.
No, what's likely going on is that Trump, the self-identified master negotiator, is turning to the only negotiation tactic he's ever really known: Extortion.
Trump likely thinks he's blackmailing McConnell into stealing the election for him. While we have no direct proof this is an extortion scheme, the circumstantial evidence is abundant and compelling. Here's what we know:

"I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000."
Thus spake zany Donald Trump, who has tunneled his way into covid relief legislation at the 11th second, having long squandered his political influence in exchange for whining incessantly about how this cruel world hates him.

trump has a record of a failed economy, the deaths of over 320,000 Americans on his hands, attempted election fraud with Ukraine-Russia-Turkey-China-Britain-Saudi Arabi, and his mounting failures resulted in a failed/wasted 2020 for all Americans.
With a record like that, trump should be facing execution. Instead, his followers believe he’s earned 4 more years! Authoritarian obedience is a thing to behold: Believe the absurd comforting illusion and deny the reality before your eyes.
Democracy is at odds with Capitalism. The republicans embrace that understanding. That's the main reason the US has the stingiest pandemic stipend/aid among the first world countries. A trillion dollar tax cut? No problem! Subsistence assistance? Never! $600 is a black-hearted joke. That wouldn't even cover rent for a month.
Happy Holidays.
Absolute spot-on points, especially that Dotard ought to be facing execution. (Janice favors being hung, drawn and quartered - then the pieces tossed to the giant carnivorous lizards on Komodo Island)
