Merrick Garland vows to defend FBI and DOJ personnel
The news last night that Donald Trump was in possession of nuclear weapons related documents - which is why Garland the DOJ had to act- puts the onus on the Repukes to finally show if they are traitors of even half -way patriots. As revealed in a breaking Washington Post story last night:
Classified documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items FBI agents sought in a search of former president Donald Trump’s Florida residence on Monday, according to people familiar with the investigation. Experts in classified information said the unusual search underscores deep concern among government officials about the types of information they thought could be located at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club and potentially in danger of falling into the wrong hands.
In the same piece we read the response of David Laufman, former chief of the Dept. of Justice's counterintelligence section:
“If that is true, it would suggest that material residing unlawfully at Mar-a-Lago may have been classified at the highest classification level. If the FBI and the Department of Justice believed there were top secret materials still at Mar-a-Lago, that would lend itself to greater ‘hair-on-fire’ motivation to recover that material as quickly as possible.”
So what will the traitor's hidebound lunatics do now? Rev up their rhetoric triggering more attacks on the FBI - such as the one by an enraged MAGA Mutt in Cincinnati last night? Before all this broke, Merrick Garland - who has stepped forward as totally courageous in the face of threats by the Trump Cult - declared his office's intent to file a motion to unseal the search warrant served on Monday at Mar-a-Lago. Trump was informed he would will have until 3 p.m. EDT today to respond or object to the release.
Within hours, The Financial Times reported Trump crawled from his current hidey hole and blurted:
"Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents,”
Well, we will see. Let's just say that as in this and all things Trump claims I am from Missouri, so "show me". Janice is betting this is merely Trump's opening bravado and he will punk out at the last minute with some excuse, say like the baloney of "executive privilege" to block the unsealing.
This release, if accomplished, will include the 1-page formal warrant itself, and the inventory or property receipt for the items taken. (The full affidavit is still to be released and it is clear Mr. Garland is biding his time as the legal process further evolves.)
My bet is in line with Janice's skepticism that the cowardly imp will block the release using some pretext at the last minute. Why would he approve it? As I wrote earlier, Trump had the details in his possession from the time the warrant was served Monday. IF he truly wanted to release any info he would have done it by now. Duh.
But rather than disclose its contents he kept it under wraps because he relished the ensuing division and shit storms with all his deplorables going nuts and even threatening civil war. One even warned, quoted in the FT, "If Trump gets indicted, it will be the last straw. All hell will break loose. We will take over the Capitol, take over the country, start a civil war. 99 % of Republicans are ready."
And how long do you think you'd last against the most formidable military in the world, Sparky? About two milliseconds? You and your lot would be crushed at the first hint of trying a replay of the Capitol January 6th attack, I promise you.
But it was Trump's scurrilous politicizing the FBI search that led to the Right's freaks going batshit nuts as they unleashed megabytes, pages and hours of unhinged anti-government rhetoric on their websites, FOX News and the op -ed pages of the WSJ. In the latter case, I had responded to a piece by the hack Holman Jenkins Jr. who questioned why the DOJ was "picking on Trump". As I wrote:
Searching for anything to "pin on" Trump? Doesn’t this two -bit rightist hack Jenkins Jr. know that the National Archives’ mission is to preserve government documents? Also that they determined last year that many important presidential documents that archivists knew existed were missing and believed to be in Trump’s possession?
Some, according to former DOJ prosecutor Andrew Weissman, likely had national security import and getting into the wrong hands – such as Trump blabbing about the content – was not an option. (Like he did in 2017 to Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs) The archivists also discovered- since January - that Trump had not returned several documents that they believed the former president had in his possession. The National Archives (according to Weissman) then alerted the Justice Department that it was concerned about the handling of the classified documents, which are closely tracked by the government and are supposed to remain within secure channels.
Never mind the Rightist hysteria, the response of the DOJ was perfectly justified and followed legal protocol. Jenkins is yet another ignorant fool using the silence of the DOJ to pump out disinformation and stir up the more ignorant Trump rabble.
The (Andrew Weissman) claim of national security import has now turned out to be prescient. But will Trump come clean now that Garland has thrown down the gauntlet? I doubt it, despite his vow to allow the unsealing. He is thriving on the upheaval and wants it to continue among his MAGA rabble. Like the forlorn dupe Ricky Shiffer - a user of Trump's 'Truth Social' (Lies Social) who issued a "call to arms" before trying to attack an FBI office in Cincinnati. After the Jasper attempted an assault with a nail gun he high tailed it in his car and was brought down by state police in a corn field some miles away.
Does Trump care about this guy? Not at all. The feral maggot only cares about his own power control over his Repuke cult, and how much they play the victim with him. To that end, silence on the warrant helps his cause and enables him to sow as much as much chaos, division and violence as he incited in the January 6th insurrection. His aim now to politicize and weaponize this non-transparency against Biden and the Dems. The maggot even has his dregs and losers comparing a lawfully issued search warrant to "Nazi rule".
If Trump fails to allow the unsealing of the Mar-a-Lago search warrant later today it will prove even to the dumbest of his hapless followers whose interest he's really invested in. What we already know - that even rivals the latest news- is that Trump was served a subpoena for the classified documents back in the Spring, but he refused to comply with delivering all.
A former official quoted in the WP article also made reference to signals intelligence (SIGINT) documents in Trump's possession. These comprise intercepted electronic communication, such as the intercepted conversations Trump lackey Carter Page had with Russian GRU agents in 2016. They also include emails, other computer exchanges, i.e. on web sites, chat rooms, and messages dispatched therefrom. Such intercepts are among the most closely guarded secrets because of what they can reveal about what the U.S. has found out from foreign governments. For this reason these data are almost as critical as nuclear weapons documents.
Given we now know some of the documents in Trump's possession were dealing with nuclear weapons, as well as SIGINT, Garland had no choice but to act to retrieve them using the FBI search warrant. He tried doing it the nice way, but Trump wouldn't cooperate. As former DOJ spokesman Neal Katyal put it last night:
"Do you think you or I would be granted such a reprieve if we had nuclear documents in our possession? Trump got all that and more but refused to comply."
