Latest Mass Shooting Again Shows Futility Of Gun Laws That Refuse To Address AR-15 Bans Or Control

Once more a horrific mass shooting has exposed the utter uselessness of a toothless, GOP driven "bipartisan" gun law that does not do a thing to regulate AR-15s.   This time the place was  the affluent town of Highland Park, IL where at least six people are dead and 31 wounded in yet another mass murder.

There a 22-yr. old psycho and failed music "rapper"  (Robert E. Crimo III) disrupted the annual 4th of July parade just after it began at 10a.m. It brought a scene of blood-soaked carnage, and abandoned portable chairs, many blood-spattered – a crime scene still being investigated. What was supposed to be a joyous 4th celebration featuring flags, floats and marching bands turned into another scene of horror with exploded heads, and mangled body parts

Christopher Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake county major crime taskforce, said at a news conference that the gunman had opened fire on paradegoers from a rooftop of a business using a “high-powered rifle” that was recovered at the scene.

One witness at the scene, David Baum, an OB/GYN at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago,  tended to the fallen and described the injuries as “horrific.”

Those bullets eviscerated people", Baum said, as he described the horror on an ABC News segment, e.g.

Baum noted terrible injuries not unlike those seen in wars,  He also referred to "flurries of sonic booms"-   not surprising given the bullets of an AR-16 travel at hypersonic velocities.  This fact was also raised in a recent '60  Minutes' episode, e.g.

As CBS Scott Pelley points out the AR-15s now number 11 million in this country and they're rarely used for hunting, target practice or protection. They are used for mass murders.  There is no good reason to own one. Dr. Baum made a similar point in his ABC interview:

There is no good reason anyone needs to have a high power rifle of the type used.  These are injuries no one should have to see. This was a mass casualty situation.  It's a sickening tale of what's wrong with this country.

As I noted earlier this absurd gun law was basically an election year gift to the Repukes. It was nowhere near as sweeping as a package of gun measures passed nearly along party lines in the House which would have barred the sale of semiautomatic weapons to people under the age of 21, and banned the sale of large-capacity magazines, which Crimo clearly used to carry out his massacre.

Even WSJ Troll columnist Kimberley Strassel was giddy with delight at how hollow the recently passed legislation was, writing in a June 24  column ('Democrats Lose ‘Gun Control’', p. A17) :

"No universal licensing. No bans on classes of firearms or types of magazines. No raising of the purchase age or limits on firearms purchases. No national database to track gun owners. Instead, the overwhelming bulk of this “gun” bill consists of provisions aimed at mental health, school safety and tougher prosecution of gun crimes—precisely where conservatives have insisted for years that the federal focus needs to be."

So never mind the phony PR and "upselling". This law is simply ceding the Reeps the priorities they always insisted upon, while giving the Dems zippo. For all practical purposes we are no further than we were before Uvalde.

How many more of these mass shootings will we see before people wake up and vote the Reep assault rifle promoters out of office?  Who knows?  But given most are ensconced in the red states - where women's lives have now been made a living hell with the SC abortion ban- we might not wish to know.  What we do know is that the Reepo reprobates are more inclined to regulate women's bodies than they are one of the most lethal weapons ever made- and only designed for use in wars.
